None of us at this point know what options were available to HY, and the university for our coach search. For all you, or anyone else knows, hiring Pittman to deal with the dumpster fire that is the Arkansas football program, may be the greatest accomplishment in the history of Arkansas athletic directors.

I’m glad I didn’t melt in this thread.

I wanted Kiffin, I figured it was a home run until Saban retires and he takes over Alabama.

When he said no I wanted Matt Rhule. He went to a non recruiting job on a pro team.

After I heard of coaches turning us down because it being a dumpster fire, I thought at least Pittman might bring stability. At worse, he would bring in a good foundation for the next guy that wasn’t in free fall.

I think the point stands that Arkansas was the laughing stock of the college football world and people with big names weren’t going to come here to commit career suicide. Yurachek went with a guy who actually loved Arkansas and so far it was a home run. No one ever saw this coming but man it’s pretty awesome so far.

I’ve scoffed at this concept before, but it really was a difference maker this time around.

The last two HCs we had thought they were above our program, as evidenced by Bielema’s continued attempts to create dumbass new traditions (throwing the A, yelling woo on 3rd down, etc) like we were a directional school who'd been playing football for 20 years, as well as Morris's incessant references to Clemson and how he was here to fix something.

For all his faults, Nutt's strength was his understanding of the program and dynamics, what it means to the state, and how to harness that. We got back to that with Pittman, in that he's someome who understands this program, this state, and what it takes tk win in the SEC.

It's like Pittman is Nutt or Orgeron without having their worst qualities bringing down the good. (And add a slathering of Saban-esque perfectionist discipline on top apparently)

I have never been so happy to be wrong in my life. I forgot how salty I was over the whole coaching search. Looking back, I think I was mostly pissed we even found ourselves in ANOTHER coaching search after making the worst hire of all time. So much better to be a Razorback today.

The JLS, Bielema and Morris searches were such lazy shitshows that we were used to it.

The players told Long to bring back JLS because he was the cool uncle who let them have ice cream for dinner and stay up late. Basically no search was done.

Bert had written the love note to Long after the Petrino fiasco, and there basically was no search or candidate vetting from that point on.

Morris was the laziest type of desperation hire in that we basically asked for and went with Gus's recommendation (WTF) after he spurned us. If your fiance leaves you at the alter and runs away with another guy, don't ask her to set you up with one of her friends.

At least with this last coaching search Yurachek was pounding the pavement and doing his damnedest to land the right coach. He was told no over and over again and basically had to be talked into Pittman, which luckily worked out. Credit to him for understanding what it was probably going to take to get this program out of the sewer and taking a chance.

LOL This is a savage bump....

I was stoked about Pittman bc we saw how effective he was when he was here under Bert and the SEC is a line of scrimmage league, so you need good training and evaluation on the lines to be successful. Plus he loved Arkansas. It just made sense.

I did however admittedly melt when we hired Musselman over Greg Marshall which certainly did not age well

I think it was a couple of factors involved that resulted in the perfect poopnado of hiring Morris. Hunter was in the process of getting hired. JCP was trying to keep the lid on the biggest booster revolt possibly of all time. We effectively had no AD calling the shots.

Then you add Gus and company playing the boosters like a fiddle and stringing them along while he got a steak and blowjob deal from Auburn (which they wound up paying out on just 3 years later). Gus throws out Chad Morris and it just so happens that Jerry Jones is a big Chad Morris fan. The rest is a very, very, sad history.

The only good thing to come from this (other than hiring Pittman) is that maybe, just maybe, the boosters having their nose rubbed in the failure of their pick being the worst head coach in Arkansas history will dissuade them from interfering next time.

Nah. Our big money boosters will continue to be dumber than a box of hammers when it comes to football.

I refer to it as the time our boosters "launched a coup" against our athletic department. Still makes my wife lol whenever I refer to it as a "coup."

Agreed. I've said before that the only difference between us and other bigtime programs is that our boosters don't know jack shite about football, and they largely care more about access and influence than having a winning program.

At this point, those who were behind the Morris hire need to be publicly shamed and drummed out of the corps.
