Im seriously furious. Im not dirt poor, but in 2 years ill only be making $10 more than minimum and im fricking livid over it.

There are more jobs than people in this country, and we think 16 year olds at McDonalds need a fricking pay raise

You know who can best handle minimum wage increases? Walmart, Target, and other corporations. Small businesses cannot handle it as well as big corporations can.

Example: A run-of-the-mill catfish restaurant in, say, El Dorado. Rough estimate 6 employees over 10 hours a day. Jumping from $9 to $11 is an additional $120 a day x 365 = $43,800, lets knock it down to $40k for holidays.

I hear the mouthbreathers saying, "Hurr durr, business owners are RICH they can afford this!" Only the big corporations can afford an increase of $40,000, which would wreck the catfish restaurant owner in El Dorado.

The owners are not going to eat that $40,000. They are going to knock it down to 5 employees and make those employees pick of the slack of the now gone one. Cost of a catfish dinner goes up. Or, if none of those are feasible, the owner closes the restaurant and none of those 6 have a job.

I know you got downvoted because we have a bunch of progressives on this board, but its fricking true.

This is the best economy in years. More jobs than ever, and since there is more jobs than people wages are competitive, and employers are paying more to get workers over their competition. I can go right now and run a CNC laser or press brake for $17-18 starting out, and those jobs are hiring because they are busy because the economy is booming. Why the fricking frick do people at mcdonalds think they need a "living wage" its fricking bullshite! Im sorry that lakwanda is a stupid lazy bitch and wont leave her job at burger king to pay for her 7 kids with 7 different baby daddies all in prison. And those places hire felons so her possession charge from 2013 isnt an excuse.

Yoga is awesome but I do agree with your overall post.

That minimum wage hike is yikes and will probably not be a net positive.

All it does is cause inflation
Inflation is going to happen regardless. Condemning people to a life of fighting poverty until they catch a break/work up because they decided college wasn't for them doesn't fix/sustain anything. I gain nothing from this, but I've never seen the logic in having the minimum required wage be poverty level. In Missouri minimum wage is 7.85. That's $15,000 working 40 hours every single week before taxes. Way too low. It didn't need to be $15, but 7 bucks is too low. People use the "well it's for high school kids" argument, but corporations pay what they can get away with to anyone. Take taxes out and that $15,000 falls to below the poverty line. Working a full-time job and being in categorical poverty should not be. Minimum wage needed a slight bump.

By far my most left-leaning viewpoint in any scenario.

Sure, there are lazy people, but if someone decides they like working that job and spend as many/more hours at that job as you do yours, why shouldn't they be able to sustain themselves and their family? Just because society has labeled working at a food joint as "lower"? Yeah, the people asking for 30k a year for flipping burgers need to take a hike, but they should at least be able to get above the poverty line when they put in the time and work. To me that's just common sense.

If you like/love your job, but the owner can’t afford to pay more, then get a fricking 2nd job or do side work to subsidize what ‘you want’ from your primary job. If you aren’t making enough money from your primary job, then maybe you will get off of your arse and figure out a way to improve yourself, so you can get a better job.

You little mf’ers don’t know what warning your way, because it’s always been handed to you.

Now shut the frick up and clean that grill, Cookie.

the economy is ok now but it's not exactly trending a whole lot higher.

sure if you're experience but those jobs were there before it was booming as the skills needed for those machines aren't taught like they used to be. if you go look into the arkansas aerospace alliance you'll see they've been saying this for a decade they couldn't hire enough people with that skillset when the economy sucked...

What do you do for a living that's so much greater than mcdonalds?

You mean to be out of poverty? You seriously see no issue with the old minimum wage being below the poverty line for a single person household?

Your answer to simply getting above the poverty line in one of the most successful countries in the world is to get a 2nd job on top of your existing full-time job. Not that businesses in said country should be obligated to give their full-time staff the wages to live. Hilarious.

Did a McDonald's employee bang your sister/wife/grandma?

This country would never be what it is now if we and the people before me waited on the govt for a livable wage. You are pathetic and will always be a loser, of you continue with your mindset.

My first job was making $10.50/hr at Arvest and the wages from each proceeding job have only gone up. No idea why you're coming at me like you're proving something. I just see a systematic issue with multi-billion dollar businesses not being required to give full-time employees a livable wage.

Get off your high horse. If everyone that thinks like you has that attitude toward other people, I'm glad I'm on the other side.
