Look, just because Bielema sucks doesn't mean the past changes.

Over 10 years, Nutt averaged 7.5 wins per year.

about 8-9 wins
Well take me out to pasture and shoot me for guestimating half a win off a decade after his coaching tenure ended.

It would still be an improvement.

If anyone think Long has some sort of undying allegiance to Bielema, they're wrong.

Very much this. Long is a businessman and PR machine to the core, and while he may be on friendly terms with Bielema he's got a LOT more at stake here than a friendly association with a coach and he obviously knows this. Not only is he in full-on self preservation mode, the statium expansion was by all accounts his pet project and he's not going to risk it backfiring in any way.

And Rev - sounds like I need to dig into this BOT meeting more than I originally assumed, sounds like it could get interesting

Here are the members of the BOT

LINK

and don't forget this...
UA Trustee David Pryor, who's expressed reservations about the size of the project previously, tells me he plans to present a list of questions about the project, ranging from scope to priorities of the university to competitive bidding.

Pryor said his mind "is open," but he remains reluctant to approve a project of this size "especially with all the needs of the university."

Pryor said he had told Long that he intended to prepare a list of questions about the project that he'll submit to new UA Chancellor Joesph Steinmetz for answers at the meeting. He said he didn't know if Long, the driver of the expansion to create 3,000 club-style seats in the stadium and other work, would be present. I'd seek a UA response, but  Long doesn't respond personally to questions from the Arkansas Times and blocks us from following his social media accounts.

I have thought about this a lot lately....

They are having problems getting all of the new seating filled by donations and tickets...

I have been contacted by email, phone, texts trying to get me to purchase and have been offered some incentives to do so that were not at first, part of the offering.

Also, take a look at some of the names on the BOT and you tell me who you think would have a problem?

I have my thoughts, and a few hints thrown my way.

Some think of it this way...

Under Long Petrino was hired, Under Long Petrino hired his mistress, Under Long Petrino was not kept and was fired all while long was the playoff chairman. Under Long Smile was hired, Under Long CBB was hired and under Long CBB was given a nice buyout and some promises..

Football is the cash cow, or was at the UofA and right now things are not only terrible but a PR nightmare. all under Long.

A few of these folks want to know his plans on fixing this, and why was it allowed to get this bad with some of the assistants, etc. prior to anything really changing.

This is definitely connected. I do believe Long will be retained but not without some caveats.

I don't know the laws, etc... When they go in executive session, how much information does an FOI cover, what are they required to let out publicly?

I don't know how much we will get to know that soon. Where is our resident legal expert.

It would be public if they extended Long’s contract wouldn’t it?

not immediately... it could start with a writ of understanding with certain guidelines to be in place prior to a contractual agreement being met. In this case, we wouldn't know anything usually, until the writ is met.

I have a little experience with some of this. But admittedly, it is very little.

Sometimes called a memorandum of understanding. It is contractually as well, but not always legally considered as such. Lots of red tape here. A good law suit could change that.

The stadium expansion is probably what will inevitably be Bielema’s undoing. Without that looming, I think there’s a better chance Bert would have been retained under the guise of injuries and rebuilding.

From a pure business standpoint, it’s a tough sell to unveil an expanded stadium when there’s zero enthusiasm around the program and fan buy-in (both literally and metaphorically) is through the floor. Bringing Bert back only deepens that chasm. A new coach would likely re-energize the fans and bring hope back to the program, which is something Long desperately needs.

The inaugural season of the expansion quite literally could not have happened at a worse time for Long, or Bielema for that matter.

Too true. I think Long has to get rid of Bielema at this point, barring a miracle turn around where we win all our remaining games in blowouts and then trounce someone in the bowl game. Which I do not have high hopes for.

I don't blame Long for the Petrino mess, we wanted a snake and we went out and got one. It was going to blow up sooner or later. I give him a pass on Smile because he was an emergency hire. That just happens from time to time.

We seem to be fairly solid in men's basketball and MA was the popular pick. We also look to be good (not great but good) across the non-revenue sports. Long has been a facility building machine since he's been here, with the stadium expansion his baby. He's extremely well respected across the country and he busts his butt to make sure that our athletes get good grades. All good things.

Unfortunately... all of that goes down the tubes if he keeps Bielema. At this point its throw away the career he built here at Arkansas or shite can Bielema and get a new lease on life.

I'm betting Bielema gets flushed.

At this point the stadium expansion alone will be the nail in the coffin of CBB, all things considered. The unsold boxes and seats will make Long act quicker than any W-L record or individual result could, he won't risk it and is probably already chomping at the bit to course-correct.

I think you'll hear pretty quickly if Long gets extended, likewise you WONT hear anything in the off chance it goes badly for him tomorrow. I put the chances of this at about 10% at most, but I give it about 99.9% chance he gets grilled and put on a short leash thereafter.

Obviously not much of a secret at this point, but as we draw nearer to this event and the end of the season I'm hearing that CBB is all but fired and he knows it/is making preparations and will possibly be stepping down himself. Whether he's legitimately resigning or it's a forced resignation is up in the air, but there's a LOT more confidence in this happening over the last few days than there was before, when there was still some doubt.

You should start hearing names like Norvell being thrown around on sports talk radio and the like from legitimate sources. This is all more than just fan speculation and has something behind it, although I'm not sure the specifics or their exact reasoning.

Well the bad thing about Norvell is he is a young coach without a lot of experience, especially in the upper levels of college football. The good news is we might as well get a new coach and break him in. Saban is going to be squatting on the conference for a bit longer so we have time for a talented head coach to grow into the job.

The parallels between the Crow/Danny Ford era and the John L./Bielema would be even more eerie then. An emergency coach, followed by what was perceived as a home run hire, followed by an inexperienced at the top level coach with ties to the state of Arkansas. Considering that Ford and Bielema have nearly identical winning percentages its even odder.

His contract runs through 2022, the only question would be to extended it, allow it to roll over to 5 years remaining per his current contract, or what would be vote of no confidence not allow it to roll over so that only 4 years remain going forward.

I truly think that JL will be around to finish the NEZ project.

After the shite show I watched last Saturday, it'll be interesting to see how the LSU game pans out.

If we get beat by 30 or more, Bert will start typing his resignation letter and cut a $$$ deal with JL.
