Does anyone know Max Brantley? I’m not sure how accurate or reliable the Arkansas Times is, but it is interesting.

Everyone I've heard discuss this keeps thinking that U of A needs to appoint a new A.D. prior to Butters being fired. Makes sense but if they're cleaning house, does it matter as long as they're both gone at the end of the football season?

The prevailing thought is that if they fire Long (which I don’t think will happen), we’ll go the search committee route in lieu of letting an interim or stopgap AD hire a new football coach.

I’m no fan of Jeff Long, but the last time we had a search committee we wound up with Nutt. No thanks.

In all likelihood, Long will be conducting the search on a short leash.

We will let the new AD hire the next coach. Otherwise he will have no ownership of the largest department they run

I would take a search committee over Long.

Not all search committees are alike.

They CANNOT allow Long to have anything to do with the search and hire.

He actually wanted to hire Jim Grobe at one time.

Long leaving is not good. No good coach will come here not knowing who his AD will be.

Long has given up on Bielema IMO so it's a non issue.

Long isn't getting fired, if you ask me.

Surely the folks in charge up there aren't that stupid.

This is another one of those myths that got way overblown by Hog fans and now gets repeated as fact over and over. He didn't *want* Grobe any more than any of the other dozens of candidates that were considered and interviewed and ultimately didn't get hired. Just about any coach can throw their name into a search and coaches of all different levels may land sit-down discussions beyond that, it doesn't mean anything other than a coach trying to get a job or AD weighing all the options.

ETA - and Long's job/contract will 100% be discussed at the BOT meeting. CBB most likely will not.

It will be discussed, sure, but there is no way they fire him.

You don't get to the position those guys are in being that stupid. Leave that nonsense for internet trolls and local business hotshots who want to put their personal interests above the welfare of the program they claim to support.

Like, some people legit want Malzahn to be here because they go to the same church he did back in the day. No other reason than they feel they can gain some sort of leverage by having a guy they "know" up there in the coach's office.

Losers.

Oh I agree but some people can't grasp it

I actually think he may get a raise and extension this week. People will freak but i actually think that is good news when it comes to getting rid of Bret.

It’s great news if we keep Long. Hopefully they extend him out this week to ensure AD stability for the next coach.

Not what I am hearing...

You cant discuss the one without discussing the repercussions of the other... And there are a few who are livid at Long for pushing the expansion while the program is crapping out. The executive session will definitely have some naysayers.

CBB's performance is tied to Longs for sure. The perception alone is enough for some discussion. Consider the loosening of the media hounds the past few weeks. They aren't just castigating CBB but the leaders are feeling some heat as well. Even the venders of the games, concessions are livid at the change in sales and revenue. People are not showing up to games, etc.

Now.. will anything really happen.. We don't know for sure, but it will definitely be discussed

This may all be true, but this is also when you will hear, for 100% sure, that Bielema will be fired this year.

They can't justify firing this guy because Bret Bielema turned out to be a dud. Everything else is looking great.

If they do, they are fools.

ETA: The biggest knock has been putting the University on the hook for 100 million in stadium renovations at a time when the program is failing.

This is precisely why Bielema won't be here next year. Anyone saying or hearing otherwise just isn't paying attention to the severity of this issue.

Long is going to take a huge hit with the BOT for how this is all unfolding, but Long can still show them that the department is just fine financially.
All that needs happen is they need to make a good hire to sell those boxes to the fans.

They'll strike a deal with a hot name. Bielema will be gone. Long comes out smelling like a rose. For awhile. Then he will move on before it falls apart.

If anyone think Long has some sort of undying allegiance to Bielema, they're wrong.

If I am wrong about this, I owe you an apology.. you wont hear anything about CBB until right prior to the last game, or in the days immediately following.

Well, we fans may not hear anything publicly. You're right. But there is no doubt in my mind this is how it will play out.

there would be some blow by from this...

a few folks will know what Is happening.

The way I found out about Petrino coming prior to him being hired was by sheer luck, or accident and I didn't believe it until it happened.

Heard it in an elevator in NW Arkansas at a function by a guy who had a bunch to drink. He shared what his father knew from a BOT meeting. I didn't care to google him or the info until after I got another call a few hours prior to the announcement. HOLY COW...

Since then I have worked on a few razorback related fundraisers with some folks who find out things often.. who knows..
