Yes after we fired Bielema but we couldn’t get past the rumors of his previous misconduct with the ladies and thought ourselves too good for him.

Back when we were trying to hire preachers instead of football coaches. A lot of good that did.

Uncommon? We wanted to be a bunch of choir boys, and played like it….

And then we bring home the prodigal son, Bobby.

Norvell apparenlty really wanted the job, too, in 2017, but after how we treated him, he basically said 'frick off' on the next hiring cycle and went to FSU.

I don't blame him.

Well he kind of proved it right didn’t he? He knocked up a cheerleader didn’t he at FSU? Or was that all a rumor too!

He was a candidate for the job and evidently really wanted it. I suspect what really did him in wasn't the allegations though. That was a convenient excuse.

I think what did him in was that the Powers That Be, who were really running the coaching search (JCP, the interim AD, was a big fan of hiring Kiffin) had their hearts set on hiring Gus Malzahn. So they leaked Norvell had serious sexual allegations to clear the way for the triumphant return of the Gus Bus. Who fleeced us to help him sign a massive contract at Auburn.

Once it became clear they weren't getting Gus, and after they had crapped all over Norvell by leaking that he had too much dirty laundry to hire, they panicked and hired Chad. We all know how that turned out.

I don't think it was a case of we were too goody two shoes to hire Norvell. I think it was a case of a bunch of people who thought they knew best, who had just engineered the removal of the previous AD, and were drunk on power screwing things up as thoroughly as possible. The only positive is that they likely won't try that again for a generation.

That’s what I was going to say- I remember gambling. I also remember I thought he was cute (not the vanilla ice pic but now) thus approving of potential hire. But nobody listens to me.

Which part? Him gambling or Vanilla Ice being hot? Thought Rico Suave was a little hotter.

JMO but I think if FSU came calling he would have left here for there regardless so it’s a moot point. It’s easy to think all of these other coaches would just come in and have success here but if it were that simple Bielema would have done much better than he did.

If Bret wasn't drunk half the time maybe he would have had success here.

The amount of flying fricks I give about a coach that chases poontang is -1000. I want to win ball games.

In this mortal life, a coach is judged by what he does on Saturday.

ETA: I definitely have a line in the sand on a number of issues, but drinking, chasing poontang, and gambling are sins IDGAF about.

I can’t find it, but I heard he had to deny rumors on a podcast at one point. I’m sure it’s all bullshite, but who knows.
