I have no problem with canaan. I don't like how the family is using him for publicity. 2018 they got a car so they could travel to see the hogs. They traveled to fayetteville for his bday tour, national signing day tour, ECT ECT ...

Oh noes, they spent time with their kid with Downs doing stuff that he loves. What pricks.

I've met the Caanan and his Mom, great people.
I really don't have an issue with the season tickets because a donor gave them up.
He lives and breathes Razorback everything.
They've had tickets donated to them for years, iirc.
IMO it should've been kept on the low.

It's possible to have a child with Downs AND be shameless promoters at the same time. Just saying.

Personally, I think there's two likely scenarios.
1) They realized they could use him as a promotional tool and tote him around everywhere so they can get attention and free stuff.
2) They have devoted their life to making sure their special needs kid is happy and his one real passion is the Razorbacks. So they travel all over the country and immerse him in it.
I choose to believe it's the second. If it's not, then it's no skin off my back. But I do find it a little easier to sleep at night when I'm not digging for the negative in every aspect of life.

First bowl game in years.
Basketball team undefeated.
Top 20 football recruiting.
Y'all are arguing over us giving two seats away to a kid with down syndrome for life......frick everyone of y'all, you're the problem with society.

Exactly.
He's probably an inspiration to other special needs kids and their families. Go out in public and be proud of who you are.
I dont see any harm in any of this. If you know anyone that has raised a special needs child, their entire lives revolve around it.

Did this thread trend the direction you thought it would?
Dude....

its annoying how he's being marketed by his family as some secondary mascot. He and his family pop up at every Hog related event nowadays. They're no different than attention seeking child star parents to me. Makes me cringe.
That said I think Canaan is awesome and hope he enjoys the hell out of those tickets. He's clearly a massive hog fan and I have no problem with someone that loves the Hogs that much getting tickets. I know he'll get more fun out of them than the white-hairs that show up to sit down for 3 hours then leave.

I've lived out of state for about 6 years now, I guess I missed the whole Canaan Sandy thing even though I've seen the name on here a few times. I just assumed it was some sort of rapper lol.
I had to ask in the last thread... "oooh that guy." I couldn't care less if they give him tickets or whatever, i ignore most powder puff PR moments from the university anyway.
I will say i was watching TN push our dicks during mikes last year in an almost empty bud... AND i ran out of jack daniels honey at halftime, that dude walks right up to my face and is trying to encourage me to cheer. Bro, we're down 30 points with 7 minutes to go, i have every right to be pissed. I do think that type of behavior is not really acceptable at a game.

Yeah.... I bet Bud Walton was pretty much empty seeing that we played AT Tennessee Mike's last season. The last two times we played Tennessee at home we've won. So you are either full of shite or just stupid. Probably both.

If you're upset that a guy with Down's is getting a better shake in life than you are, then I see that as much more of a personal indictment than anything.
Nobody's ripping on the dude.
And nobody is jealous of him getting tickets. It just goes beyond what anybody should do in that situation.
I agree with the post that says there are thousands of kids/adults like him in the state of Arkansas who would be thrilled to have the opportunity to do 1/10th of what Canaan Sandy has gotten to do.
Why does the school put all of their energy into one kid?

He's run through the A.
Scored a fake touchdown.
Thrown out a pitch at Baum.
Among three dozen other things. I personally don't want to do any of those things. Spread that shite around. Send the poor kid living with a single mom in SW Little Rock to games. Send any special needs kid other than Canaan Sandy to do some of this stuff.
If I'm a parent of a special needs kid and I asked the university for 1/10th of what they've given Canaan Sandy, it would not happen. Because they've turned the kid into some kind of mascot. It's stupid.

I disagree. If we go around and stop helping people because others might get their feelings hurt that it's not them getting the support, then we'll stop being able to give anyone anything.
Nobody suggests we "stop helping people". People are only suggesting we help "people" rather than one "person", time after time after time....It's tiresome and annoying.
Canaan Sandy isn't sacrosanct. He has Downs Syndrome. That doesn't mean he and his family can't be shameless attention whores who push out all of the other "deserving kids" who might get a few crumbs from the U of A.

Should they have a fund for special needs kids to attend Razorback events? You bet. I hope there's one day a Canaan Sandy fund that provide that. And I think there will be. But getting upset because he is supposedly stealing opportunities from other kids is silly. The free shite he gets would have just gotten worked into the budget of some liberal arts program and forgotten about if it wasn't put to good use.
I think there's a lot of misplaced anger here. Turn it toward the UofA, not him and his family. The UofA has the resources to do what they do for him for 10,000 other special needs kids if they actually wanted to. But they don't. And that's not his fault. But he may be able to change that.

In his defense he’s probably way more invested in Razorback sports than any other special needs person in Arkansas and could probably have named off the depth chart even before he got all this attention. Not every special needs person would be willing to support the Hogs and go to every single game every year, home and away.
Also feels weird calling him a kid. Isn’t he in his 30’s?
