Sounds like we're finally moving to real changes for the arena itself.

Check your email.

Razorback Fans,

For more than a quarter century, Bud Walton Arena has served as the home to Razorback men’s and women’s basketball, high school and university commencements, Walmart Shareholders meetings and many other special events. Countless exciting moments and lifetime memories have been created through the years at the Home of the Razorbacks.

Now as the facility prepares for its third decade of serving the University of Arkansas and Arkansans throughout the state, we are beginning to evaluate potential enhancements to Bud Walton Arena that will elevate the Razorback game day experience and while at the same time opening up the potential to host major concerts, special entertainment experiences and additional sporting events.

Enhancing and expanding the versatility of this great venue will help position our region to attract new events, resulting in a greater economic impact for hotels, restaurants, and businesses within our state.

No specific timeline has been established for this project. However, as we begin to chart the future of Bud Walton Arena, we are asking for your input through a survey on a variety of topics, including evaluating the potential for additional standard and premium seating areas, renovated and expanded concourses, refurbished restrooms, and other potential amenities.

Below is a link to begin the survey on Bud Walton Arena enhancements and the future of the arena. Razorback fans have made Bud Walton Arena a special place and we need your help to make sure it remains the place to be for decades to come.

Thank you in advance for participating in this survey.

Some of this shite is wild...

quote:

Augmented Reality “Pods”
To provide the most advanced fan experience possible, the renovations may include a new, never-before-seen concept. We are considering developing a series of Augmented Reality “Pods,” which would be located in a newly developed space in the upper seating bowl. These “Pods” would be semi-enclosed, with a semi-circular video wall providing an immersive experience for up to 30 people. These “Pods” would likely be available for rent on an event-by-event basis.

Like wut

quote:

MVP Club – these proposed seats could be located in the first four rows of the sidelines, behind the existing floor seats. These patrons would have access to the newly built club space that may be located at the top of the renovated lower seating bowl.

Idk about this either. I want students the first several rows all the way around. Move the media to the basement.

This is gonna cost a fortune but pony up Muss gonna earn it.

They need to learn a little math...

If it's been in use for 'more than a quarter century' (25+ years), it's already IN it's 'third decade' of use.
It's getting ready for the 'fourth decade'.

I thought this was an institute of higher learning.

The way this reads, it almost sounds like municipalities are going to be chipping in as well, since the University/Walmart/surrounding communities obviously want to make Bud Walton into a super, multi purpose 20,000 seat arena for concerts and other top tier arena attractions.

But wouldn't they basically have to totally revamp the building structurally? I thought BWA was designed specifically for BBall and does not possess the layout for major concerts, rodeos, shows, etc?

I'm pretty sure this will gut the entire inside more or less. Some of the concourse and restrooms modern facelift and slightly wider.

Loge seats, high end clubs, concert layout. Gonna cost a ton. Survey also mentions motocross events and UFC Boxing etc.

I’m almost surprised it’s possible to make these types of changes from an engineering standpoint unless they essentially plan to build a new arena. Those aren’t cosmetic changes. The concourse at BWA simply isn’t built like the arenas in those sample pictures.

Well if you remove the standard suites there now and it's all open concourse there is a LOT more room.

But this will be a huge cost regardless, with or without structural changes to the bowl.

Needs to happen regardless, BWA is long overdue to become more in line with today's modern arena's/venues.

No NWA municipalities are going to chip in for that wishlist. They are dreaming on that

Yeah I doubt Walmart is going to be all about turning it into a concert venue when the AMP is right down the road. Though I’m sure the UA/Fayetteville would love stealing some of that revenue.

The pods idea is very Jeff Longish.

Took the survey. Not sure what to think about the ideas being thrown around in it.

To accomplish a lot of it, there is going to be a complete gutting of the place.

I took the survey even though I live out of state.

From the looks of what they want to do BWA will have to be gutted. If in fact this is what the future plans are, look for ticket prices to double. $200 for a family of 4 plus concessions seems to be out of reach while inflation continues to rise.

Not sure how they'll pay for this renovation but I'd expect another " answer the call" BS promotion to the donors.

Gotta be corporate dollars coming into this when we start reading about concerts, motorcross, MMA, etc. Lots of corporations will end up buying a lot of that premium seating IMO for things other than Arkansas Basketball.

I was at a luncheon a couple months ago and Hunter said it was going to cost like $120 million.

Is it's concerts and other events I could see the cooperate market footing the bill.

I suppose we'll wait and see how it all shakes out in the near future.

I saw Ted Nugent in the Barn back in the 70's. It was a great time.

Personally I think BWA looks the worst on the outside, I was really hoping for a full exterior renovation like was in the plan in 2017 master plan for BWA.

This one...

Thought that design was gorgeous.

I would think the outside would be part of this. I mean, if you’re gonna gut the place, might as well add a fresh coat of paint too.

It sounds like only the wealthy will be attending. I don't think I can afford tickets like that in the future with inflation going up.
