I don't disagree with any of that

I know these type of "hit and run" threads and posts are your MO and you're mostly just looking for a reaction to your "controversial opinion" because it makes you feel better about yourself, but I'll play anyway.

This is a season where we have an all new coaching staff, new QB, several new starters and skill players, and have had little to no practice and no tune-up games early in the season.

Not only that, but we've had injuries to key players on both sides of the ball and have YET to put our best team out there fully. Nobody expexted us to even be as competitive as we are, let alone come close to winning against AU and get the W against MSU. We have a legit shot to get a few more wins too.

In an abbreviated season, with abbreviated practice time, and an abbreviated roster, we're IMPROVING vastly from week to week and look like a completely different team from the last few years. Somehow Pittman and crew have ridded the locker room of their losing mentality in just 3 weeks.

THAT'S fricking HUGE in itself.

I'll give Briles the time he needs to keep improving.

Except on the drive that meant the most.

3rd and 12 QB draw? At least give him a chance to throw, open up the field and let him scramble if its there.

That entire series was pathetic.

Just the fake screen to Knox that led to a Warren TD against State was better than any playcall made by Morris/Craddock in the past 2 seasons.

Deserves a lot of credit for a few key screens, that TE wheel route call and the shovel pass near the goal line.

The last drive kills me though but that may have been more of a function of Pittman.

It was a function of 2nd and 12. Needed them to burn TO’s. If you pick up 3-5 yard on 1st everything changes

Right and I see many people jump on Briles for that but we don't know the whole story.

In the miss St game on the last drive, he clearly wasn't going for running the clock out.

Treylon killed us on 1st down by bouncing outside and way back for no apparent reason. I think he was trying to be the hero but in rewatching it he should have cut left and just feel forward for a 1-2 yard gain. I imagine that was a product of it being his first time getting carries in a huge pressure situation but that would have set us up much better on 2nd down and would have had no one questioning the call.

I'd love to hear someone ask the question that matter here during a presser but our media is garbage.

They did yesterday. He said they have certain red zone packages installed that they worked all week on in practice, they just didn't work out in the game. He thought Hornsby could get to the corner but they beat him there.

It's not like we're the only team that does stuff like that. The Saints use packages like that with Taysom Hill. Florida did it with a freshman Tebow even though Leak was a really good QB. Might be time to try something else now though.

Pittman said he had planned on throwing the ball on that last 3rd down too but since it was 3rd and 12 he didn't want to risk a sack and put us in terrible field position. Unfortunately we got a special teams penalty and a bad punt so it didn't really matter, Auburn still got great field position out of it.

Well obviously. That's what I said about the stupid reverses and sweeps they were running the week before too. When you do it with 2 quarterbacks over 3 weeks and literally run the same play all 4+ times. Maybe you should call it good.

I know you can set people up for him throwing later in the year, but when you have the chance to win and don't because of it. Wait for a game you are up.

But to be honest, I think Briles has coached in the Big12 and ACC where they were probably the fastest teams 99% of the time.

That would make you believe you could just get the edge every time with our players speed. Not realizing the big ugly D Ends and Linebackers are just as quick, with the corners maybe being faster.

I disagree and you are wrong.

At this moment, it’s too soon to tell.

The Oline is young and inexperienced and the offense is still coming together. Spring ball being screwed up didn’t help.

I think so far we are seeing him try to find things that work. As the season goes on I think offensively we will continue to get better as the offense will start to click better which will make the play calling look better.

I think it's a little tough to blame Briles right now when he's missing his two biggest playmakers on offense, Burks and Boyd. They should be back this week against the worst defense in the history of college football.

He will hopefully earn his paycheck this week.

I've never been a fan of reverses and end-arounds unless you have absolutely elite speed to work with but other than that I've been pleased with what I've seen. He doesn't get stuck in ruts and doesn't beat his head against the wall. If something isn't working, he makes adjustments. Loved seeing him attack the middle of the field and the flats in the 2nd half of the Auburn game when he realized they were going to give it up.

If Briles stays around and you get Pittman's line in place, its really going to open up everything

Yeah I'm interested to see what he calls against Ole Miss. I dont think they can stop anyone. I hope we can establish Boyd soon and not have him injured all the time

If you think any OC is making the call in that situation then I don’t know what to tell you.

Pittman is a first year head coach and he is going to do shite like that and like going for 2 early in the game when it isn’t needed.

Try to throw the ball get sack or fumble force something get interception lose the game.

By third down I'm punting as well. It's all about that first down run failing that got us into a bad position

OCs are not making that decision without input from the head coach. Do you honestly think that Pittman had no input on how the play calling was going to go on the final possession? He didn’t call the plays but he damn sure told Briles not to put the ball in the air.
