Imagining him with a competent passing attack to go with his wheels makes me salivate a little

100% need to get Briles back next year. The work he’s done with KJ has been nothing short of a miracle.

Not a huge fan but this is why I haven’t complained after the game. It was so good for KJ to be patient and grow. Miss the paca though.

It’s perfectly fine to not be a sunshine pumper 100% of the time. Briles has glaring in game issues with getting in his own way.

It was the biggest problem I had when Chaney was our OC. Chaney would run a damn reverse at the worst times with Keon Hatcher or a jet sweep with Cornelius. It killed drives, killed momentum, and changed games. Chaney was a heralded QB whisperer as well.

I would assume Pittman said something to Briles at halftime, because Pittman loves running the ball. There was still a series in the second half that two consecutive cute plays lost about 20 yards when the offense was rolling.

All here are fans and some give to the program and are more than allowed to criticize when it is warranted. Acting like Briles is 100% perfect and getting bent out of shape with others call out his horseshite, is lunacy.

It has been talked about before that Pittman talks to Briles about what he wants to see in general every so often but lets Briles call the play that fits.

Agreed and starting a thread "Briles is dumber Gus Malzahn" is lunacy as well.

I get its how some vent tho in the course of a game.

This... As I stated in another thread. Plus what Chesh said above. He has been incredible in developing the QBs, and the offensive recruiting has done well.

I am still trying to understand the Odom love too?

Odom also benefited from having a tight defense that hung around. The motivation and nastiness pilling up on people is what I like and I believe that’s because of Sam. All credit goes to him for keeping these guys and putting together this season. Kudos to him for the success he has had so far.

This. I've had no shortage of complaints towards Briles over the course of the season, but I don't think you have to assume Briles is right 100% of the time to still have issue with these threads that make Briles out to be like he's one chromosome away from being Morris.

We have one of the better offenses in the conference with a first year starter. I'll take it.

Will never get that. He had his players out of position about 5 times if their QB had better aim, they would have walked away from us multiple times.

If he doesn’t get on the field more in the Spring Game, I could see him pulling a Mike Woods. He is just too quick not to be on the field in some way.

Yea seemed the game was put on our offensive line and KJ’s shoulders after halftime. They were challenged and responded.

Being a dumber Gus Malzahn isn’t an awful thing. Gus was the only one who could ever beat Bama and he made the national championship game. Also has the Cam offense to his credit.

Briles’ faults seem to be fixable, and his offense has been “good” overall this year. Im not calling for him to be fired, but that trick play at the end of first half was one in a long line of WTF calls like that he has made.

With all that being said I do not want to poo poo today’s win and special season this was. If admins want to delete this thread to preserve the good vibes I won’t be mad.

I think Muss has to be the happiest person for a win today. A win going into the off season, giving us hope for next year, that takes a bunch of pressure off his not so good team right now. That and having that recruiting class coming in next year. But football really glosses over a bunch.

I’m not saying you specifically but a lot of people were calling for him to either outright be fired in the game thread today or saying if someone else who’s a rival got him they wouldn’t be mad which is as someone else earlier stated is lunacy

Assuming he’s still here

And Briles is always good for a couple of bone headed calls but overall he (or Pittman) makes good halftime adjustments, something we haven’t had since Petrino. I’ll take a win every damn time

I tire of his cutesy playcalling, and he definitely seems to contribute to the inconsistency of the offense, but he has put in some seriously good work on KJ. Gus has never developed a QB in his entire career.

I still don’t understand why we can’t develop an effective screen pass, and it baffles me that we never get to the home run double move pass plays with all the short passes we throw. That said, Briles is easily the best offensive mind we’ve had on the sideline since Petrino.

I’ll admit that it is worrisome that I think Briles had to be reminded to run the ball in at halftime in our bowl game.

Enos Brandon Allen offense was better.

I don't agree with every play he calls for sure. I can say this, as a former OC I'm sure he carries several "changeups" or "trickeration" plays into each game. Sometimes those are genius and sometimes they suck....
My biggest gripe is getting too cute when we could obviously line up and whip PSU at the LOS and make them like it.
That and we had 6 yard hitch routes for the taking off of RPO's all day and never threw a single one.
I feel like he over-complicates RPO's. Sometimes all you need is to tag a slant, a quick screen, or a bubble to it.
All it has to do is fill the void of the vacated defender you are trying to read.... make one guy on defense be wrong (put him in conflict).
It doesn't take 3 formation shifts and two funky motions to do that.

Yeah, I forgot about Enos, but Allen was a good pro-style qb too.
