How about not get run ruled twice in a row and have the pitching staff get embarrassed
Beat me to it.
I don’t think anyone seriously expected to take this series, but not getting run ruled in both games of a DH and playing better than little league defense in the process shouldn’t be out of the realm of possibly either.

Does it really matter when it’s 2 Ls?
“We played em close!”
“We played em close!”

Just hammers home how important yesterday was. Imagine if we don't pull that one out.

Yeah let’s go lose 26-3 like Mississippi State did last night to Vandy. Same difference, right?

y’all either bought into DvHs off season crap way too much, haven’t noticed how many new guys we have or how many injuries we’ve had on what was supposed to be mainstay pitching.
He kept his same shitty staff that has been driving everyone crazy and letting the fans down for years.
Just don’t get yelling at the sky after snagging a win against what will be one of the better SEC Teams in recent years.
Van Horn is the king of just good enough to break your heart.

Jesus Christ.
That 7th inning was everything wrong with our plate approach.
Diggs turns a 2-0 count into a strikeout, and Cali and Rowland both strike out swinging at several pitches in the dirt.
LSU’s pitcher was wild AF and was spiking everything the dirt, yet our guys are still swinging at it.
Yet another inning where we do jack shite with a runner(s) in scoring position.

Probably be a lot of shite talk in this thread this week…but we took 1 this weekend on the road at #1…tied atop the West two series in…ain’t no lineup going to come close to that lineup that we face the rest of the season.
Let’s see how this plays out…play for a national seed and then see where the chips fall.

I’d think the biggest takeaway from these first two weekends, is we need Smith on Fridays and Hollan on Saturdays. The way these two throw, we’ve got a better than 50% chance of winning games 1 & 2 with them starting.
Seeing how LSU struggled with lefties, having Smith available to start a game today would have made a difference. Hollan likely goes longer yesterday as well if DVH knows Smith can’t be an option.
The thing to figure out is what is wrong with Morris. He seems to be leaving the ball up and looks nothing like he looked last year.

That dude is straight up meat balling pitches up there. Terrible velocity, not much movement to his pitches, breaking ball is pedestrian. Nothing looks good when he's on the bump.

Losing Frank is akin to PP last season. A killer in the end.

I said this earlier this season, but he's been the biggest disappointment on this team.
Four year starter with a ton of game experience (55+ IP coming into this season), had a 2.31 ERA last year, yet he’s sporting one of the highest ERAs of the entire pitching staff this year which continually hovers around 10.
We really needed him to step into the role of the experienced innings eater and high leverage middle reliever, and he’s been absolutely terrible.

Agreed.
I get that DVH is basically saying we have no closer without Tygart, thus the call to move Smith into the long relief/closer role, but we need another good starter with McEntire struggling and any Sunday bullpen game being a complete crapshoot.
We won’t face a lineup like this until Vandy at the end of the season, but we’ve got to go back to the drawing board with our pitching strategy.

Tygart is due back in about what ~4 weeks now? Can't come soon enough.
ETA: He was hurt March 6th and the timeline was 5-6 weeks. Maybe for Tenn series?

Agreed. 3-4 shutout innings from him would have potentially changed the series.
A couple of the freshman arms are going to have to step up. So far we've gotten no meaningful innings out of those guys.
