We had a better team last year with a “worse” class.

Torvik says this team is better(we finished 21st in torvik vs. 16th this season)

Of course last year we only played 3 quad 1 away games, which translated into a 1-2 away quad 1 record.

Getting Kentucky, auburn and Tenn at home last year was a huge factor in our ranking/seeding.

I'm not totally naive though. Last year's team appears it had more leaders and mental toughness, but this team isn't bad at all on paper and still has time to get it together

Good points.

I haven’t lost faith in them yet, just need to see them get a win against tougher competition. I think Saturday will be a crazy atmosphere so hopefully they can get their mojo back.

Weird season - I'm glad we're not getting a double bye in the SEC tournament because we need as many games as possible

It was a perfect summary in that it was an away quad 1 game just like most of our quad 1 games this season....away.
Road games are tough, even tougher against quad 1 opponents. How many teams win a majority of their quad 1 away games?

Dude.... you are now making excuses for what we were told for nearly a year was the most talented team in the SEC and possibly the country.
My point is, obviously we are not.
I get last night was a Quad 1 game.... but A&M and Mizzou were not and we laid eggs in both of those.
This is supposed to be a Quad 1 team but we aren't getting Quad 1 play out of them. We are getting sloppy basketball that is downright painful to watch.

A&m has, in fact, turned into a quad 1 game now

And my point on the schedule is that we didn't get quad 1 play last year from them on the road either, we just had way less quad 1 road games last year.

and this year, we have one of the highest number of quad 1 aways in college basketball

Brother relax

I didn’t name call anyone, just said everybody sure is melting hard over this loss. Is it okay to be unhappy with the product? Of course! Last night was terrible! But we’ve really got people in here talking about Muss like he needs to go. I just think everyone needs to take a deep breath and keep everything in context. This team CAN be good. We led the overall #1 seed on the road by 9 at halftime. Did we win? No and that showcases some problems! But the potential is there, even despite the Brazile/NSJ injuries that hampered most of the season.

All I’m saying is let’s leave the pitch forks at home and still cheer for the team on Saturday instead of burning BWA down with the team and coaching staff inside

Hot "inside" take (okay, some guy just told me at work.. but he knows someone.. legit...).

Supposedly this is the toughest group of athletes Muss has had as far as egos/discipline/behavior. Some issues around work ethic, not showing up to practice, etc..

Take that for what it's worth. Kind of echoes what someone else was saying about him being better with transfers, though. I can't even imagine these young, young kids with the NIL deals, coming straight out of high school, being a possible 1 and done, and having piles of money and party lifestyle thrown your way.

Even for the most well-grounded young athlete, that's a recipe for disaster. All that being said, none of these accusations about excess and such were directed at Nick Smith... at all.

I thought this team might have seen the light after the Bama loss but I guess nothing changes under the sun with this bunch.

I could believe that. Especially with Council saying no comment to the attitude of the team question last night.

I think thats also why you seen Muss shut it down recruiting after Ball and Blocker committed. I expect lots of departures this offseason and a come to jesus moment for a few others.

All of this might explain Devo's attitude this year. 3rd year guy whose put it work every year losing minutes to guys who are lazy would upset me as well.

Just one final point on quad 1 away games.

2021's team won 0 of those games but played just 4 of them...made the elite eight

2022's team won 1 of those games but played just 3 of them...made the elite eight

This year's team has won 1 out of 6 of them.

Are they meaningful barometers for how good the team is? Sure, but shift 3 of those games this year to home games or weaker conference opponents and we may very well could have been looking at a 5 seed right now

Indeed. And could totally see him having a "man to man" convo with Muss, which would then elicit all the minutes we started to see.

Unfortunately for Devo, he's had some bad games as well. Mostly good but overall, just feels like some tough chemistry would be out there along with the NSJ situation.

Also, appreciate the quad 1 perspective from Admiral, its meaningful for sure but we really just looked like absolute dog shite last night.

Important context coming off the road trip and gut punch loss to Bama but not what anyone wanted to see at this point in the year.

I would agree with that as well. We looked awful but it doesn't have to define the season

I'm curious to see how we look in the SECT, will be the first "neutral" court games since OU. Will tell us a little about how we perform in the NCAAT imo. We suck in true road games but our fans travel well enough that we won't have that kind of crowd disadvantage in the tournament unless we get UCLA on the West Coast, Bama in Birmingham, etc.
