For me...it has to be that first full class he brought in back in 2008. It had the likes of Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, Dont'a Hightower, Mark Barron, Marcell Dareus, Courtney Upshaw, Barrett Jones, Robert Lester, Damion Square, Brad Smelley, Michael Williams and Terrence Cody.

Yeah. Hard to argue against 2008. It just had so much going for it.

3 In-State players (Julio, Barron, and Dareus) all drafted in the top 10 picks

2 additional 1st round picks (Ingram and Hightower) who are both still playing in the NFL at a high level over 10 years later.

Most importantly, they were the first class entirely recruited by Saban to win a National Championship.

2008 - the talent level was like night and day - made most evident by the Georgia black-out game that year.

This... 2008 changed it all.. It was a perfect storm of ELITE in-state talent, Saban being a proven winner, finishing off 2007 with a decent win, a HUNGRY fanbase, unlimited resources and support and you had a recipe for immediate success...

Even some of our 3 stars off the 2008 recruiting class turned out to be 5 stars on the field. Marcel Dareus, Damian Square, and Mt. Cody were literally the building blocks of our national championship defense in 2009.

I'll also go with 08 class.
We all knew we were headed in the right direction when Mal hired Saban in early January 07.
We POSITIVELY knew greatness was coming with the 08 signing class.

2017 for me.
First 10 ranked guys could go in top 2 rounds in NFL draft when all said and done.

2008 and it is Julio Jones that defined that class.

We were no longer conceding elite recruits. And he brought his lunch pail and set the standard at his position. There's before Julio, and after Julio.

Without Julio other classes would be in contention. With Julio, it's no contest.

2008 class will always be my all time favorite. Springboard for championships to come. Key contributors right away, helping us beat Clemson UGA UT Lsu & Auburn.

fricking legend. Researched most of his charges. I don’t think thug pos is a good word to calla him. He grew up bad. He never really learned how to let it go and having money made it worse. Will never forget Cody.

2008 class! Even though BJ Scott didn't pan out on the field for us, he recruited his azz off helping land the likes of Julio, Dareus, Ingram, Barron, etc.

Julio was hands down transformative to the program.

2008 is the de-facto best because they built the dynasty. All the others came to a top program when they got here.

2008:
5 1st rounders (Julio, Barron, Ingram, Dareus, Hightower)
2 2nd rounders (Upshaw, Cody)
10 players drafted overall.

The most talented is probably 2013 or 2017.

2013
4 1st rounders (Allen, Foster, Howard, Robinson)
1 2nd rounder (Henry)
10 players drafted overall.

But Kamara, Tim Williams, and Eddie Jackson were in the backend number.

2017 is going to end up being the best.

4 1st rounders (Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, Wills)
1 2nd rounder (McKinney)

Then Leatherwood, Moses, Najee, & Smitty haven't declared yet. That's at least 4 more going in the 1st or 2nd. That would end up being 9 guys in the first 2 rounds, which smashes any other class.

And that's not accounting for players like Labryan Ray, Mac Jones and Chris Allen who are just now really getting their opportunity.

Most overlooked are 2009 and 2012.

2009:
5 1st round picks (Richardson, Kirkpatrick, Fluker, Carpenter, Warmack)
1 2nd round pick (Lacy).

2012:
1 1st round pick (Cooper)
6 2nd round picks (Collins, Yeldon, Ragland, C. Kuandjio, Anderson, Tomlinson).

This. There isn't a more impactful recruit in Alabama's modern-day history. Not only was he a freak on the field, but he was also the first consensus "superstar" recruit to pick Alabama in a long, long time.

He could have gone to Oklahoma, caught 1,000 balls from Sam Bradford in the video game Big-12 and set all kinds of records.

But he stayed, left an unmatched legacy (at a place where there are quite a few greats), and left a champion.

For what he did for Alabama, and now the Falcons, I couldn't be more grateful for an athlete. A sure-fire Hall-Of-Famer, it's been an absolute pleasure to watch Julio perform at such an elite level for so many years. His work ethic, leadership skills, and the way he cares about leaving a lasting legacy on both programs is truly rarified air.

The one that built the dynasty's foundation.
