This ‘let me storm the court because it makes me happy and feel important’ and ‘if you don’t let me have my fun you are a hater’ mentality is symptomatic of society today.

Considering that storming the field/court has been around for ages, I would argue that this notion that everything should be stopped based on the potential it could harm someone is the bigger flaw in mentality and much more emblematic of the pussification of our society.

Much rarer event in the past. Today it happens every single week. And is couched by most as a sense of entitlement.

I don’t give a damn if someone gets hurt or not. My point of contention is that a fan should keep their arse in the stands and have no business going onto a court or field.

Yes, ignoring the possibility that players or coaches could be killed injured is a good idea.

No one thought that someone would start blasting away at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade either.

On October 30, 1993, Wisconsin defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 13–10, for the first time since 1981. As the final gun sounded, students began to charge the field to celebrate, but were blocked by the guardrails surrounding the field. The crowd in the back, not aware of what was going on at the front, continued to move forward, aided by gravity. Those in front were crushed against the rails and then trampled when the rails finally gave way and the throng spilled onto the field.[18] There were no fatalities, but 73 students were injured, six of them critically.[19] Several Badgers football players assisted with removing the injured from the tangle. Per Mar Security (stadium security) and the University of Wisconsin were later found liable for this situation.[20]

From the Camp Randall Stadium Wikipedia page. The SEC implemented their policy about fans entering the playing field after the Pistons/Pacers brawl back in 2004. It's only a matter of time until a visiting player lays out a fan, and I will have zero sympathy for that fan and would hope that player's coach will refuse to discipline that player.

If you really want to let fans on the field do like Clemson does and allow fans onto the field after every single game after the teams have cleared.

by 2020ChampsIf a fan or player gets seriously hurt or killed, will schools stop people from charging on the court/field. So players who have just been in an emotional game are expected to put up with fans in their face and pushing and shoving them. If I was in their place I would clearing a pathway to get to the locker room to get out the danger zone. In my opinion it is shelf defense. Act like you have been there before!

It’s not really “IF” someone gets hurt. I don’t know about BB, but there are injuries almost every time the fans rush a football field. And there have even been very serious injuries. These are kept VERY quiet by most schools for obvious reasons.

There have also been plenty of cases of drunk fans confronting, and even assaulting, players on the losing team, and sometimes the players react - seems like we had a big fuss just a couple years ago over a Bama player who allegedly shoved some drunk bitch who had rushed the field….

One example of the “innocent fun”:
It’s been a few years, but down at the smelliest village a MAJOR incident was averted when security was able to stop a mob of aub fans who had torn down the goalposts after beating us - and they were headed up the stands; apparently to throw them off the back of the stadium over the entrance to the visiting team locker room.

Just “good clean fun” Right?

This shite won’t stop until something serious is done - and sad to say, that won’t happen until someone loses their life.

As we all know, the drunkard fans DO NOT CARE if the school has to write a fat check. It has to be something as serious as a Forfeit - or loss of a home game the next season; or something just as impactful to the fans. Maybe a playoff ban for that season.

Otherwise it won’t ever stop.

The penalties SHOULD be serious, much, much more serious for offending “fans”.

Personally, if they would have mass detentions by security/police, take the offenders out of the stadium, line them up against a concrete wall and shoot them in the back of the head one by one, pretty sure that would solve the problem.

Electric wire around the court to be turned on when the horn sounds!

Students who make contact with visiting teams on the playing surface at any time are subject to expulsion. Zero reason anyone accidentally does this so a severe punishment is warranted.

Alabama football would be damn near undefeated on the road since 2008.

That won't really stop it. Like "vacated" wins, everyone knows what happened on the field.

The solution is to make it about money in a BIG way.

The first time your fans storm the floor/field, your next home game is played with 0 spectators and literally one butt in a seat extends it another game. Do it twice in, say a decade, and your entire next season's worth of home games is played with zero fans in attendance.

Fans aren't as stupid as they're made out to be. They full well know that even a $250,000 fine is nothing when your athletic department generates $100-200 million a year in revenue so it's not even a tiny deterrent. Take away those seats though and suddenly everyone from the university president down to the guy renting his yard for RV parking suddenly cares.

Larger fines and forfeits.

Yep. Also, these players just lost a hard fought game that they were expected to win. I'm sure they aren't feeling great and the last thing they want is a bunch of drunk frat boy idiots running on the court taunting them as they are leaving. Fine and forfeit.

It will taken seriously when a player is being harassed by
fat RED NECK Frat Boys and he goes off using his helmet as a weapon. So he can fight his way to the locker room. If it was me I was as big as these guys I would clear a path.

If you expected to win you would not act like a fool!

Night sticks, dogs, pepper spray. I would also love some water cannons.
