Max Johnson is a godsend for us. Conner W would’ve given us fits with his legs. Max is a statue. We will sack him 7 times and pick him off 2-3 times.

Their DL is legit. I’m concerned about moving the ball. I don’t expect them to score a lot either though.

I remember the last time Alabama played at A&M and had a backup QB playing, on one knee too.

Analytics fricken love them, we’re absolutely not going to beat the hell out of them. I’d bet it’s going to be a slog of a game. They have just as much talent as we do on the defensive side of the ball

That line had a field day with Milroe last year, it sure ain’t gonna be pretty this year. Max Johnson’s also a better quarterback than Milroe

Miami used a short to mid-level passing game effectively against Ta&m. Get the ball out quick behind the LoS to about 14/15 yards. Most of the passes toward the sideline. They ran mostly inside shoulder of the tackle to the inside shoulder of the tight end. The attack was slow starting until the DL got a little winded. They did use play action to pop at least one long pass.

Can JM improve a little more this week and attack the edge of their defense with quick passes and QB runs? If he can, Alabama should have a good day.

weigmans advantage wasnt his running ability, but his ability to get the ball out quick, and on the move from different arm slots when his feet werent set. Johnson is a pretty capable runner, just more a pro style pocket passer.

key for bama will be well timed blitzes. cant allow johnson to go through his progressions. hes probably better at reading defense than weigman.

think this will be a relatively low scoring, and physical game.

In his only season as a starter he was sacked 33 times and finished the season with 78 rushes for -41 yards. I’m not sure where you’ve seen him be a capable runner.

Sacks count as rushing attempts. If you want to guage whether a guy is mobile in the pocket you need to isolate that out

Bryce was mobile as all hell and had 81 for 0 yards in 2022

I think Bama has an issue in this game. I think ATM is good enough up front to make Bama throw for TDa in the red zone and Bama has not been very good in that aspect...leading to FGs or worse

ETA: I watched highlights from each game this year. There's good and bad... The shortest TD pass Milroe has thrown was the Niblack TD against UT. And that was 30 yds (several near that range) so that's good, especially given a couple QB runs accounted for TDs also from that range or shorter. But nothing shorter than 30 yds though for passing TDs. There was nearly the one to Burton ( that was also nearly a pick against UT) but was called back by a penalty. In compressed space, Bama either needs more from Milroe or Rees or the running Game to be unstoppable, because the only short yardage TD pass I recall was a catch last year by Latu and it was as a "seeing eye single " version of a pass.

I’ll have some of whatever you’re having. I don’t know how we’re going to move the ball efficiently, or score TDs in the red zone if we get there. Their defensive line is legit and Milroe still doesn’t inspire much confidence in the mid-range passing game.

Dude,

I can’t imagine what you were like in 2020.

Homie you need to put down the koolaide and embrace reality. You have to be the biggest sunshine pumper I’ve ever seen.

I’m beginning to think this guy is a troll.

A&M is talented, and they seem to be playing good ball I suppose, but Auburn and Arkansas are definitely among the worst teams in the west, so I'm not all that impressed that they looked good against those teams. And then there is the fact that Miami scored 48 on them. I don't care if Miami has a pretty good offense, a good defense doesn't give up that many points in a big game like that. That's the most points Miami has scored all season.

Our defense shut down Jackson Dart so I don't see why they'd have any trouble doing the same to Max Johnson. They do have some kind of scary wideouts though.

But of course if we dick around like we've been accustomed to seeing the last three years then it will be a very tight game. Our dudes better come to play.

Max Johnson is not a statue at all. He can move.

Good player but turnover prone. I think we mash their O line and beat the hell out of Max all day. Hopefully we learned our lesson with Ewers.

Everyone assumes we won’t be able to run on that D front but let’s not forget Milroe and our run game ran for nearly 300 yards against those same 5 stars last year. We have three 5 stars of our own on the O line. I think our 350-360 pounders lean on them early and often. Impose their will.

Win up front. Don’t turn it over. Bama wins.

Appreciate the eternal spring of optimism, but I would prepare yourself for a much different outcome. A&M has a good defense. Our O-line is inconsistent and, at best, mediocre. The center can't snap the ball. Left tackle gets beat by the speed rush and line gives up too much penetration. A&M averages like 15 TFL. In short, they are going to be in our backfield all game. Mclaughlin has the serious yips. In a big game these are going to get worse.

Our quarterback is a project who does not process very quickly and thus holds on to the ball way too long. This will equate to a BUNCH of sacks.

DO NOT let yourself think that Milroe has turned any sort of corner. His seemingly better performances against not so good defenses are quintessential fool's gold. He will be exposed Saturday along with he O-line. As much as we are going to hate watching it, Milroe is going to get flustered and panicky and will turn the ball over 2-3 times.

Our defense, while being much improved, still needs and offense to score. They are not going to be able to hold A&M to 0.

A&m, like everybody else, is playing their Super Bowl Saturday. They will bring their A game.

I hate these facts, but objective observation tells us what to expect. So, expect it.

Roll Tide anyway. We are getting better in many ways. Defense is really improving. Offensive coordinator and line coach both tneed to be replaced.

Next year will be tough too. We are really behind the 8 ball at quarterback. There is simply not enough time to make Milroe a good college QB. He literally needs YEARS of work. The Freshman, Sayin, is not going to know the offense well enough to be a championship QB next year. Simpson is a project just like Milroe. He likely won't be a championship calibre QB next year. Lonergan MIGHT rise to the top, but CNS won't replace a starter with a younger upstart. At least not until we lose a game.

Not doubting A&M have a tremendous DL, however this is a very gloom take for a team whose defensive dominance has come against some pretty bad teams.

They have gotten some good results but let's be honest.. Arkansas and Auburn are not good teams.

We have actually proven ourselves and beaten a good team (Ole Miss) who has two good wins (Tulane and LSU).

Football is a game of matchups. A&M’s secondary is not good and Miami threw for 374 yards on them at 12.5 yards per attempt. We aren’t built to take advantage of A&M’s weak spot.

Fast receivers and a QB whose best pass is his deep ball against a defense whose weakness is their secondary? How is that not a good matchup?

We'll have to see how things shake out, but if the A&M front 7 can shut down the run, then A&M can keep 2 safeties back and nullify Milroe's deep ball (like State did).

ETA: I don't think A&M can cover our guys playing man, but there's no need to. If I'm Durkin, I sit in zone all day, don't give up deep shots, and make Milroe read the defense.

With Milroe playing we are 4th in the country in yards per pass attempt

I’m very optimistic that our defense makes it to where A&M wins a rock fight or they don’t win at all. The biggest variable is our o-line versus their d-line
