Nate Oats with an extremely difficult opener as Alabama's head coach tonight at home against Penn. Quakers return two double-figure scorers from last year's team that won the Big 5 and finally get Ryan Betley back healthy. Excellent matchup ahead in Tuscaloosa.

The line went up? I thought we were 7 point favorite or something like that.
Ready to get this season started
Hoping we play well and hit our 3's again tonight.

5 best SEC basketball nonconference games in November

4. Alabama vs. No. 9 North Carolina (Battle 4 Atlantis, Wednesday, Nov. 27)
The Crimson Tide should be 4-0 (barring an upset) heading into this game the day before Thanksgiving in the Bahamas. This will be new coach Nate Oats’ first real test as the Alabama coach, and it’ll be a good one.
The 4 teams expected to go on a run in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament are No. 8 Gonzaga, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 12 Seton Hall and No. 15 Oregon. However, how fun would it be if Oats’ run-and-gun style that he brought from Buffalo leads to Kira Lewis Jr., John Petty and the Crimson Tide pulling off this (and maybe other) upsets?
This North Carolina team has some question marks, but 5-star freshman Cole Anthony figures to be a star. Still, don’t count the Crimson Tide out in this one just yet.

Alabama (-7.5) vs. Penn: Nate Oats has a very talented roster in his first season with the Crimson Tide, and it’s why I expect them to be one of the better teams in the SEC. Kira Lewis is a perfect fit in the aggressive style that Oats wants to play, and there are good shooters and other versatile players around him. But this matchup won’t be easy against a Penn team that sports a deep rotation. AJ Brodeur and Devon Goodman are a productive duo that will challenge Alabama’s defense, and the Quakers will try to find a lot of open looks from the perimeter. It’s hard to know exactly what to expect from Alabama’s attack on offense since players will likely still be adjusting to certain roles, but Oats’ team should find a way to get the victory. Prediction: Alabama 83, Penn 73.

I’m guessing it’s unlikely we hear about JQ before tonight’s game

Jay Bilas has us at 39 to begin the season.

39. Alabama Crimson Tide
First-year coach Nate Oats brings consecutive 25-win seasons and consecutive NCAA tournament appearances with him from Buffalo. Previous head coaches Avery Johnson and Anthony Grant were not able to accomplish either in their time in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide have talent, led by point guard Kira Lewis Jr. and shooter John Petty.

Can we make a blood pact NOT to overreact if we lose a close game to a good, Ivy league favorite?
I'll try my best.
I'll try my best.

I'll be pretty patient this year, as long as we hustle. That's really the only thing that would piss me off
Posted on 11/5/19 at 12:29 pm to SummerOfGeorge
I have zero expectations for this year. We are transitioning from whatever you want to call Avery's "system" to a relatively complex motion offense. There's going to be some growing pains. Especially when we face an experienced opponent.

What about if it’s not a close game ...jk. I will not overreact early on as long as we resemble a coached basketball team

3 areas i look for improvement in in year one.
1-look like they actually know what they're supposed to be doing at crunch time
2-as has already been mentioned, hustle, gittin after it
3-foul shooting

4-executing a successful inbounds pass without a timeout.

As long as we shoot FTs well and can successfully Inbound the ball without having to basically throw it up for grabs or call a timeout I won’t melt.
