Nugz from T-Watts

quote:

— It remains to be seen if Alabama’s Sam Praytor will play in Friday’s opener against Northeastern. Praytor jammed his thumb last weekend during a scrimmage, and is coming off a season-ending arm injury in 2019 that held him out all but six games last year. Tide head coach Brad Bohannon isn’t rushing the redshirt sophomore back from anything, taking more of a conservative approach to ensure he’s 100 percent before bringing him back. This especially considering missing the Helena, Ala. native in 2019 dealt a major blow to the team. Fully healthy, the feeling on the UA end is Praytor is the top catcher in the SEC, which in turn makes him one of the top catchers in America.

— There’s no shortage of confidence in what UA has in its group of hitters. The expectation is that Alabama will take a big step forward and is capable of 65-plus home runs and a top-half of the SEC club in offense. Alabama will be anchored in the middle with guys like TJ Reeves, Tyler Gentry, and the aforementioned Praytor who are all projected to reach the double-digit home run mark. Two guys in their second years with the program that have made strides forward are Brett Auerbach and Drew Williamson.

— Alabama will have new faces that will all figure into the equation. Guys like Jim Jarvis, Owen Diodati, and Jackson Tate are all expected to make impacts. William Hamiter, from just down the road at Northridge High, has been red hot throughout spring scrimmages. The decorated freshman is making his way back from a knee injury, and like Praytor, won’t be rushed back to full-go until he’s 100 percent ready. In due time, however, expect Hamiter to push for at-bats.

— Alabama’s starters this weekend against Northeastern are as follows: Connor Prielipp on Friday, Connor Shamblin on Saturday, and Antoine Jean on Sunday, per Bohannon. Alabama’s Tyler Ras, Casey Cobb, William Freeman, and Chase Lee have all impressed on the mound during preseason scrimmages. You can expect Freeman to get the nod on Tuesday against Troy. As for the other three, expect the trio to be UA’s go-to relievers in the early part of the season.

— Last, but certainly not least, Alabama’s carrying some noticeable confidence coming into the 2020 season from this UA squad, which isn’t something we’ve seen too much of in a few years. With the inexperience on the mound, one should be cautioned not to set too high of expectations, especially with half the SEC being ranked in the top 10-15. But expect Bama to take a very noticeable step forward this spring after a 30-26 campaign in 2019. Looking ahead to 2021, the Tide looks to be in great shape with a large portion of this year’s roster slated to return.

That non conference schedule affords is a chance to tack up some wins but little chance to gain any non conference credibility.

Good news is we shouldn't have any issues with SOS or RPI. Our league more than takes care of that.

Also, since they stopped all the early tournaments teams used to play there just aren't that many chances to play big time OOC series unless you are an elite program.

Southern Miss, Troy and USA will all be good resume opponents. UNLV is projected to be in upper 1/3 of the Mountain West.

I'm pumped about this team, especially on the offensive side. I am; however, concerned with pitching as I'm sure most of you are. I think they are talented but experience makes up for a lot of mistakes and starting 2 freshmen isn't going to help. I hate to keep making comparisons to AU in all of our sports (minus football) but I think Coach Bo is about to mirror their program

had no idea he was rated that highly. How did he not go early in the draft?
