Tua versus Jalen for 2019 Heisman trophy.

Lawrence will have his say in it obviously but is there any doubt that these two may battle it out for college football's most prestigious trophy? Assuming Hurts wins the job and assuming he puts up big numbers, it may very well come down to two former teammates. I kind of expect the media to push it pretty hard even early during the season. If Tua has to come in second place again, I hope it's Jalen Hurts holding the trophy.

I agree if not Tua then Jalen 100%. But lets face it, TL will not face defense with a pulse (sans A&M) until the CFP. Its his to lose.
Edit: and maybe USCe.

Disagree. I think it's a wide open race with any of those three guys having as good a shot as the next. Tua has the best skilled position guys to distribute the ball to and he also has a favorable schedule despite playing in the SEC. My money is on Tua.

But like he said his competition in the ACC is going to be a cake walk.

So you guys believe Tua has a slim shot of winning the award because sunshine plays against inferior competition? Maybe but I don't buy it. Tua had the award in the bag last year playing one half of football throughout the year despite Murray putting up video game numbers against inferior competition.

I think Clemson and Lawrence are going to get sucked off hard this year.

And Murray ended up winning the trophy whist playing that inferior competition when Tua faded a little once he faced really good defenses. So....insert TL for Murray and I can see the same thing happening.

i think whoever espn is hyping the most the first part of the season, will not win the heisman. their standard operating procedure is to hype a cant miss player at the start. then in the later part of the season, switch to the player they really want to win. then go non-stop hype 24/7 for that player.

Sorry, but Hurts isn't a good enough a passer to win the Heisman. There is a reason he lost his starting spot at Bama.

I would be happy for Jalen Hurts to win the award.
However, if he puts up the flashy passing numbers to be in contention it would lend some credence to the argument that Oklahoma's offensive system is the Heisman winner.

what big12 defense will stop jalen and that offense. i fully expect him to shine in that conference. just as long as he dont beat bama in the playoffs.

I’m sorry, but I’ve got to stick to what I’ve seen. How soon we forget that this very message board, myself included, begged, pleaded, and complained nonstop for two years for Tua to take the reins because Jalen handcuffed our offense by not being able to throw the ball.
Two drives versus Georgia this season by hurts, which came while the defense was set up to stop to Tua, doesn’t change anything for me. I still don’t think he can throw the football consistently, which is why I wanted to bench him for Tua in the first place.
Heisman candidate? are you kidding me? I’m still not sure he can throw for 100 yds when he plays a Top 5 defense.
It’s going to be the same story. His athleticism is SO elite, he’ll be able to dominate all the teams ranked #10-#120 with relative ease. Top 5 to Top 10 teams, Oklahoma better hope their defense scores, because Jalen won’t win you those games

It's been clear for a long while that the entire body of work is irrelevant, it's just an award for who most recently caught the eye of the sports media.

I didn't want to say anythign first for fear of being called sour grapes but you're dead on, IMO. Mayfield and Murray excelled in that OU offense because they are E-L-I-T-E passers. Hurts will fare well because the big 12 doesn't play defense, OU has a tremendous offense, and hurts is a gifted athlete. But he's simply not a gifted passer and we have what, 3 years? of data to prove it.
I would honestly be stunned if he is a finalist.

I only saw Murray in one game,vs UA, and he didn't look at all like an elite passer. I think he completed 61% of his passes and Alabama's defense last year was not great.

While I love Jalen to death and think he is one of the classiest young men to come through the program in a long time, I just don’t buy in to the Heisman talk. Jalen was much improved last year with the tutelage of Enos. Lincoln Riley is a similar QB whisperer. But to think that a QB who couldn’t hit an intermediate to deep pass consistently as a sophomore is going to become Joe Namath as a senior is just ludicrous.
Jalen will be successful and win a lot of games in Norman with his athleticism and with the lack of defense in the Big XII. But he will still struggle against good competition. Texas will probably beat them again this year and Iowa State will give them fits. I look for a down year for the Sooners with a 9-3 or 10-2 record and Jalen for Heisman talk will be forgotten by October.
