Just for reference, here is the list of Notre Dame opponents this season, their scoring defensive ranking and the result of the game.

quote:

OSU. 25th. Lost 21-10
Marshall. 6th. Lost 26-21
Cal. 79th. Won 24-17
UNC. 102nd. Won 45-32
BYU. 97th. Won 28-20
Stanford. 113th. Lost 16-14
UNLV. 86th. Won 44-21
Syracuse. 40th. Won 41-24
Clemson. 23rd. Won 35-14
Navy. 52nd. Won 35-32
Boston College. 100th. Won 44-0
USC. 94th. Lost 38-27
South Carolina. 87th. Won 45-38

Looks like the home Clemson win was their best offensive game against a marginally good defense.

Regarding roster talent, I would imagine they had better talent than all of their opponents other than Ohio State, Clemson and USC.

They did put up good numbers the second half of the season though. Only 2 of their touchdowns were from the defense and one on a punt return, so, the majority of their scores were from their offense.

Willing to be patient and see how it goes. I do believe there are better options but Saban has to want them and they have to be willing to come.

He might end up great and I hope he is, but anyone that comes on here and says they had him as one of their top 3, maybe top 5, choices to replace BoB is just not being honest.

I completely agree, this is not even close to an upgrade from BOB, might even be a step back.

Watch, he’ll probably wind up being the highest paid OC in college.

This is definitely some sad disappointing news for sure.

I really hope you’re right. I can’t help but feel disappointed, though.

It seems like Saban wants to take our offense back to before Kiffin, more run and ball control, multiple TE sets, and a pocket QB that distributes the ball to the playmakers. I’m not against that at all, actually it’s my favorite type of football, as long as you pair that with a dynamite defense like Georgia does. If we whiff on the defensive side, we’re gonna lose a lot of games, probably by a lot of points.

Ball control should help the defense, and an efficient drive-sustaining offense is appealing. I'm too old to worry about this now, so I'll scream at the TV when the time comes.

I agree with this sentiment. A definite step back in my opinion. Certainly not a home run. But hey, what do I know?

N1UA did not return to South Bend. Tommy Rees either wasn’t given the luxury of flying on the University’s plane back to ND, or the most likely scenario, stayed in Tuscaloosa overnight.

If the latter is the case, then Saban isn’t letting Rees leave until they can work out a deal. I’d say he’ll be announced as OC at some point today.

If we get a solid DC hire I'm less worried about this. If we don't then well it was a nice run at the least.

I will say this..

After reading around a bit I am even more underwhelmed seeing Notre Dame fans legitimately celebrating our hiring of Rees like we celebrated New England hiring Bill O'Brien.

Not a good feeling at all there.

Are they really? damn.. feels like a solid hire and an upgrade over BooB.

Would the ND offense have been better last season with Reese or BooB?

Saw a few plays broken down on Twitter ( wished I could find them again) from Rees. Actually well designed, well executed , with a purpose . Kinda liked it maybe it won’t be too bad of a hire

Even the BOB lovers and defenders can't deny what our offense turned into the minute Milroe started taking snaps.

Everyone put all the blame on Milroe but any decent OC would have just altered his calling to Milroe's strength which was running. Milroe sucks as a throwing QB.

Instead we just dropped back with crappy route combos (just like with Bryce) and Milroe would take off running instead of doing a Houdini job (like Bryce).

So in short, I think basically most would be better than BOB. However if we don't get an amazing DC we would have needed an amazing OC to help that side of the ball (See how Sark nullified Golding, and if you remember at that time people would defend Golding not realizing it is Sark's offense helping him out).

For me if we don't nail this DC hire this could be it for this dynasty.

I remember a lot of Bama fans whining about their disappointment when Coach Saban hired Sark as OC after his stint with the Falcons.

I am all for any offense that can sustain drives and produce points. But in the end it does not matter who is playing calls though if we do not improve in the trenches especially on the OL.

OL strength is indeed very important, but smart OCs can do some things to work around not having a stellar OL.

Just yesterday, there were reports that Notre Dame was willing to match any offer that Alabama made to keep Rees. Apparently not everyone there wanted to get rid of him. He was courted by several major college programs, as well as interest from the NFL. If he's the choice , I guess we'll have to give him a fair chance, huh?

Forget Sark, how about the reaction when Daboll was hired!?

Since when do you give a shite what fans of other teams think? Do you think the vast majority of them have any clue what they're watching when they tune in on Saturdays?
