So this will be interesting. If Rees winds up being the guy, LSU fans are going to say it's a horrible hire, yet their genius coach tried, and failed, to bring Rees with him to LSU to be the OC!

Interesting article describing how it all went down when Kelly left ND for LSU: Rivals

Good article! Thanks.

I think Rees has done well with, frankly, not-quite-top-tier skill player talent. He plays to their strengths and that has consistently been OL and TEs.

Ah, I see you have reached the "bargaining" stage of grief

Anybody we hired would. That’s no reason at all to hire him.

Honestly, there is little better commendation for a coach than saying he got the most out of their roster. There are a lot of coaches out there who would've won a great deal less with such mediocrity at QB and WR he's enjoyed at Notre Dame.

I don't think this is a SLAM DUNK HIRE but I'm willing to see how it plays out on the football field before crying about it. Can't say the same about the Todd Grantham smoke.

Does it make any sense to bring in the former oc of the head coach that now coaches our biggest rival in the west (LSU)? Idk... Seems like a meh kind of hire. How was his recruiting at ND?

I mostly agree, I just couldn't resist making the joke

Yeah, my liver probably isn't going to enjoy a season with him as DC.

It doesn't make me want to vomit. It doesn't make excited.

It's the ultimate wait and see.

Not a rival. Even if they were a rival, they are not close to Auburn.

When he had Ian Book the offense was solid.

To make it more interesting, what if Sam Hartman followed?

Plus it's not like ND plays some murderers row schedule every year. They feast on cupcakes dressed up in P-5 clothing like Stanford, BC, Syracuse, etc. We know what he has done with a major talent advantage and it's not like disastrously bad or anything but it's nothing to get excited about either.

They had a top 15 offense in 2019 and made the college football playoff in 2020, didnt have nearly as much talent as he would have here either.

Miami, LSU, Oregon, have have tried to hire Rees away from ND and failed. LA Rams had interest in him recently too.

It’s intriguing. Has the potential to be a Home Run but also has the potential to be a failure. Truly just gotta see what happens

That's the part I'm curious about. How's he feeling today?

Lol everyone Saban brings into interview is the favorite. Would be surprised if this is the last interview.

Byrne said last night we might have some coordinator news today and Chris Lowe only says stuff when it's legit......I'm guessing we'll be getting "finalized" tweets shortly.

I'm not sure that is exactly what he said.

However, that being said I think it is clear Rees just like Grubb was brought on for an interview. So clear interest.

I have two questions for Rees:

1. Do you know what a screen pass is?

2. If the defense is blitzing nonstop, will you call one?

As long as the answer to both questions is, "Yes," he's an improvement.
