Will Alabama win their 3rd SEC Conference & Tourney Title in 4 years next year?

The Crimson Tide have made food out of the SEC since 2021, with a combined record of 41-13 the last 3 seasons.

I have no names, but from the horses mouth we have 1 committed to come, but can’t make offer for 2 months. The 2nd coach should come from one of 2 prospects that are in the NBA.We shall see if this plays out or not.

Saw this on Twitter in reference to our staff openings. I don't understand the two month thing. Why would we have to wait two months unless it is an NBA guy?

There can't be more than 1 or 2 who fit that bill to be fair. Might be 0. It's probably an NBA guy working for a playoff team if we're waiting until May or June to make the announcement. The not being able to make an offer aspect of it makes it sound like a contractual issue. Hell, could be an NBA player who plans on retiring and wants to go into coaching.

Was disappointed we couldn’t take over KFC YUM! Center. By far the least passionate fans there. It’s embarrassing

No fanbase is going to be consistently loud while their team is bricking every open shot and scoring 23 points in a half.

Might be someone from the Milwaukee or Memphis staff? My understanding is that both of their head coaches are like Oats with the focus on analytics for system and team building.

DeMarre Carroll is on the Milwaukee staff and is from Birmingham, AL. He played with Ronald Steele in high school and went to Missouri. He's only been as assistant coach since last August though. Just recently retired from the NBA.

Roy Rogers is also an assistant coach with Portland.

My thing is that they mention that the other one is one of two guys from the NBA, which likely means that the guy we have committed isn't from the NBA.

Only thing I can think is it's Jim Whitesell, and that it is some contractual issue that has to play out with his firing at Buffalo. Maybe because he was a HC and the move is deemed a demotion or lateral move. I know the NFL has this sort of caveat with not being allowed to interview other assistant coaches for a position that is a lateral move without the team's permission (no idea if the NCAA has a similar rule).

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'd bet big money on it likely having to do with Whitesell's buyout and him getting the money he is owed from Buffalo.

Something to do with Whitesell's buyout would make sense. It has to be some kind of contractual hurdle if an offer can't even be made for a couple of months. Him getting a firm job offer before some payment deadline runs might screw him out of a big check.

I hope he's a "young" 63.

Would he be more of Henry replacement or a Hodgson replacement? Is Jim Whitesell a good recruiter?

If our other guy is from the NBA, I wonder if he has any previous college or recruiting experience?

The impact on our recruiting with Hodgson leaving is what is most interesting to me. Pettway has a great track record as a recruiter, but almost every single guy he's ever landed has been from the southeast. Are we planning on letting him hit the road to be our main national recruiter or are we going to keep him in his SE wheelhouse where he has had success and have one of the new hires be that national recruiter?

Would really suck now if Pett is offered and takes the Kennesaw St job.

Not a bad choice to be competitive and a great option for grad school. Plus, it's not far from his home. No hard feelings and hope it works out well for Nimari.

Some names to look at from the NBA:

Dale Osbourne-played for South Alabama and spent 7 years as an assistant there

Steve Hetzel-ties to Mark Izzo but may be an NBA lifer based on coaching background

Zachary Peterson-ties to Izzo

Roy Rogers-Bama

DeMarre Carroll-from Birmingham. Played with Ronald Steele in high school.

It's possible that Oats contacted Izzo regarding coaching vacancies and if so, he might have recommended Osbourne or Hetzel.

Outside of these guys, no clue on the NBA guys unless they are someone else from Milwaukee or Memphis due to the analytics based system they run.

Ronald Nored is a local guy coaching in the NBA for the Pacers. Wish he was on the board, but I believe I heard he might just be a few years away from an NBA HC gig. I certainly doubt he’d turn away from that possibility to be a college assistant

Didn’t he play on those Butler F4 teams? Or am I remembering that wrong?

I'm not very sure on what Whitesell provides. I just figured he'd want at least one guy he is familiar with and one that knows how he likes to run things, especially since he just lost the 2 coaches he was most familiar with.

The other guy I would hope to be a good recruiter, and if it's a former NBA guy that we're targeting that shouldn't be very hard for them to pull off I'd think.

Plus, if I'm being honest, I'm not overly concerned about recruiting, because I do think our system isn't super hard to recruit for and Pettway already has a great reputation in that regard.
