I miss Basketball Season. I think I honestly enjoy it more than Football season. Especially once conference play starts. Flipping the channels back and forth on Tuesday and Wednesday nights is so much damn fun. Saturday’s are too

Not sure, but he's a winner everywhere he went. Illinois became serious once he joined their staff. Former 'zag walk on replacing Tommy Loyd, another coach I said to keep an eye on.

I've been playing fantasy college basketball for about 6 years now, gives you a reason to watch a bunch of different conferences games, I love it. I had a player from Utah State on my team last year, one from Oregon, ect, had me watching about a lot of their games when I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

I like college basketball as much as college football for sure.

With basketball, I'm glad with our hat being on the table. It sends a message. With Grant or Avery, our hat wasn't on the table.

I’ve thought that Primo made a mistake, but maybe I am wrong. Would a second mediocre season have doomed him to an actual third or possibly fourth. Right now, he’s completely getting recognized for “potential” and youth. Maybe he made the right decision.

If he goes in the first, he definitely made the right decision for himself. That'll be $10 million guaranteed. And there team that drafts him expects to be patient and to develop him. And being late first, he'll probably go to a good organization. I hate to see him go. But with all the articles I've seen about him killing it at the combine, it would be foolish to stay.

Avery wasn't a bad recruiter. He just couldn't identify a talented big even if the guy posterized him. Grant was pretty notorious for finishing second for top ~75 kids though. Most years you could have built a really good class just out of kids that he couldn't close the deal with.

Recruiting wasn’t Avery’s problem at all. Sexton, Petty, Kira, Herb. And he had Jared Butler here at one point.

That's how I felt about Primo as well. I think the original idea was for him to just test the waters and receive feedback on what he needs to do to become a 1st round lock. He was always an interesting prospect but then when he dominated the combine it was a wrap.

An 18-year-old with great size, great shooting stroke, playmaking ability, a plus defender, and a ton of room to keep growing is going to shoot up draft boards after the combine he put on. Hate that we lose him, he was my favorite player, but I'm excited to see another 1st round pick from Alabama out of it.

Just being a hat on the table is not the mindset we need to have anymore. We’re way past moral victories being our only success

I have to admit my excitement level has decreased without Primo and Shack. I really thought a final 4 was possible.

O’Banor from Oral Roberts in the portal. I would take him in a heartbeat

6’8 and 45% from 3.

The Crimson Tide rolls to the highest Learfield IMG College Director’s Cup finish in program history!

quote:

Alabama's highly-successful 2020-21 season, which included a College Football Playoff National Championship and Southeastern Conference championships in football, men's basketball, gymnastics and softball, helped propel the Crimson Tide to a seventh-place finish in the 2021 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup, which is its highest in program history. UA's previous best was 14th at the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign.

"One of our goals is to have a regular presence in the top 10 of the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup, so we are thrilled and certainly very proud of this," said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. "To have our highest finish in program history in a year like this is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and staff but also to the selflessness of so many over this past season. Congratulations to our entire department on a job well done."

In total, 18 of 21 teams advanced to national competition during the year, including 17 that earned a spot in the NCAA postseason as well as football in the College Football Playoff. Thirteen Tide teams finished the season in the top 25 nationally including six in the top five – football (1), softball (3), women's outdoor track & field (4), men's basketball (5), gymnastics (5) and women's swimming and diving (5). Two more finished in the top 10 – men's indoor track and field (7) and women's cross country (8) – to give Alabama eight national finishes between first and eighth. Other top-25 finishers include men's outdoor track and field (13), rowing (14), men's swimming and diving (15), women's indoor track and field (16) and women's golf (24).

For the final standings, 19 total teams can be scored, four of which must include men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball. UA finished with a combined 1017.25 points.

Yeah, Grant had some terrible misfortune in recruiting as well. Willie Cauley was ours with Frank Martin's departure and UK missed on literally every single 5-star big they went after in the early signing period (I feel like this is the only time this has happened) and threw Cauley a scholarship without even watching him play basketball. Then there was Cat Barber who we were the leader for from start to finish and the kid becomes a klepto on a recruiting visit to Louisville. And then you have Pollard who was a project we didn't get to reap the benefits for because his mom kidnaps someone and he drove the getaway car.

His biggest failure as a coach was never preparing for off-season transfers. We never over-recruited and by the time someone transferred the pickings were slim.

I'd bet our average number of scholarship players under Grant was somewhere between 10-12. Because yeah, he never recruited with the assumption that there would be transfers. It's easier for Oats to recruit that way because between the portal and the one time blanket waiver there's no chance you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to force a kid out the door, but in general he seems to cast a pretty wide net. Having two assistants who are good recruiters instead of just the one has helped a lot with this too, but we seem to be closely tied to significantly more top players than we used to be. Go after 4 and miss on 3 and you're fricked. Go after a dozen and miss on 8 and you're fine.

College basketball rankings: Alabama falls after losing two key players from SEC title-winning team

quote:

Alabama coach Nate Oats won an outright SEC regular-season title and the SEC Tournament in just his second year in the league. So it's reasonable to assume more trophies are on the way -- perhaps as soon as next March. But, that said, his roster took an undeniable hit this week when Jaden Shackelford entered the transfer portal and Joshua Primo decided to remain in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The byproduct of those developments has the Crimson Tide now set to lose four of the top five scorers from last season's team. A top-10 recruiting class highlighted by five-star point guard JD Davison, four-star center Charles Bediako and transfers Nimari Burnett (Texas Tech) and Noah Gurley (Furman) will help offset what's been lost. But it is the departures of Shackelford and Primo that have dropped Alabama to No. 15 in Version 16.0 of the 2020-21 CBS Sports Preseason Top 25 And 1.

Alabama is losing four of the top five scorers from a team that won the SEC regular-season title and SEC Tournament - most notably Jaden Shackelford and Herb Jones. But the enrollment of a top-10 recruiting class highlighted by five-star point guard JD Davison, four-star big Charles Bediako and transfers Nimari Burnett (Texas Tech) and Noah Gurley (Furman) should give Nate Oats a chance to compete for back-to-back conference championships.

15. Alabama

Notable players expected to leave: Jaden Shackelford, John Petty, Herb Jones, Joshua Primo, Jordan Bruner, Alex Reese

Notable players expected to return: Jahvon Quinerly, Keon Ellis, Juwan Gary, James Rojas, Darius Miles, Keon Ambrose-Hylton

Expected additions: Noah Gurley, JD Davison, Charles Bediako, Jusaun Holt, Nimari Burnett, Alex Tchikou
