I guess with Stevenson gone, Holloway is gonna be the dude people shite all over next season. But they'll be noticably absent when he has have where he shoots 7-10 from 3 with 6+ assists. If his defense was like Zigler's he'd be starting at a blueblood, making $3 million+.
The fact anyone is bitching about having Aden as our backup PG is pretty fricking hilarious, or acting like his defense is a lost cause. From his freshman to sophomore years, he improved his 3 point shooting from 30.2% to 41.2% and from 25.0% to 45.7%. That's an insane amount of improvement, and he did it at a higher volume.
Why shite on him months before practice officially starts? It's like some people expect us to trot out a deep with 10 NBA players. Especially when there's guys who can cover his deficiencies, depending on the in-game scenario.
We will not see the same end of game lineup everytime. It'll change based on matchups, the situation, and the hot hand. Pretty much identically to any Oats roster that had depth.

Aden is a 6th man scorer...I feel like you have to tool your expectations to that...most in that role are there because they either have too much defensive liability to play starter minutes or they play too high energy to be effective at starter minutes. Every team needs a guy like Holloway though...

The article was about Aden Holloway, and literally not a single other player from Bama. The article pointed out that he was a liability on defense. You may have a short memory, but I remember watching every minute Holloway played in the Duke and both FL games. I want no part of that next year unless he can actually play an ounce of defense.
Your post was an awfully sensitive response to a person commenting on the topic at hand, but you do you. Some of us can handle the fact that not every player is talented or experienced enough for big time games, and it’s ok to express we hope those players get there. Not everything has to be sunshine and rainbows for every single player on the team, and I highly doubt Oats is sugar coating his feedback to Holloway about what he needs to do this offseason. He’s not playing 8yr old rec league ball…he can handle some criticism (ironically, I was actually one of Jarin’s biggest supporters on this board…but that was because he actually hustled and was in a slump that was out of character for him…Holloway being bad/lazy on defense isn’t out of character).

The Tuscaloosa News: Where does a new basketball arena stand?
Byrne: Well, we have a new basketball practice facility coming out of the ground. Coaches are very excited about that. Teams seem to be excited, too. That's where they spend 90% of their time. Coleman Coliseum opened up in 1968 and we've got a lot of deferred maintenance on it, a lot of challenges with it. We've raised a lot of money for a new arena and it will have to be addressed at some point. I understand the fiscal responsibility to not jeopardize our entire department for one facility. So, we'll continue to move our basketball programs forward. The new practice facility will be a big part of that. Time will tell on the other one.

I’m in the minority, but I’m not crying - get to enjoy my seats for a few more seasons before being relegated back to the rafters (if not the sidewalk).

I’d rather play at Coleman for 300 years and even after its rubble on the ground than out ads on our jerseys.

Surely they’ll give consideration to long-time loyal fans instead of favoring corporate money right?
Right?

Hoping they’ll focus on the 12k and not the 10k, even if they have to wait an additional decade to get the money for the extra 2k seats. At 10k, I’m probably back to just going to a couple per year and buying on secondary market.

I thought we were going to be great last year and while we ended up being decent or “good,” I wouldn’t say it was great and fell a bit below expectations IMO.
We live in a golden age of Bama basketball when we can say this about an Elite 8 team and it only be a mild overreaction. God bless Nate Oats.

In fairness, that statement was about our rim protection last year. Overall season results were not a disappointment IMO. I’ll never be disappointed in an Elite 8 appearance

There's a Bama/NC State fan in Reddit. Dude got a double dose of Gottfried blue balls/epic collapse.

Cliff kinda put things together towards the end. But he just wasn't very good or experienced in drop coverage. Grant played pretty solidly, until he had to guard a true center. And even then he held his own in big games.
In the end, it wasn't our rim protection that killed us, it was lack on size and length in the backcourt. Guys like Sears and Estrada have played great ball for us. But to win a title, you need to have size. When we've had long backcourts and wings, we've had top 5 defenses.

Maybe they didnt think Cliff could do it, but the main reason our defense improved so much the year we made the FF was because we dropped the drop coverage and started having the big men press up and hedge on screens before diving back. We had the depth and athletes to do it this past year, we just stuck with the drop. Cliff really struggled with the timing and Sherrell just never quite got in the right shape after getting hurt on top of being a freshman.
I understand that the metrics supposedly say drop coverage forces more inneficient midrange shots, but I fricking hate it. You have to have the right guy doing it, and Bediako was the only guy who could run it well. Cliff would back up till he was under the basket before challenging, allowing tons of easier shots than he was supposed to.
It doesn't help when your lead guard can't do shite to prevent drives because he's not quick enough to stay in front of anyone, while also being the shortest guy on the floor.

Estrada had plenty of size, he just wasnt very explosive. Sears got mismatched all night against Duke and couldnt do shite.
We have more size in the backcourt this year. And Philon is super athletic. I think he will be much harder to try to defend, even if his shot doesnt fall at the same rate as Sears.
