Where is this news from? Can’t believe anybody would guarantee a starting spot these days but we did just lose most of our front court

I don't understand the thinking behind the starting position? If Oats came to me and said if I do what I'm supposed to do on court, I'll see lot of playing time whether it's as a starter or bench, I'll be perfect fine with that. I rather be that guy who close out in the game than to start and only play ten minutes.

It came from an Alabama insider who’s definitely in the know. This was reported over a week ago that bama backed off Murphy. He apparently wanted a large sum of money also.

We're gonna have at least one lineup next season that's just 5 shooting guards.

I think we can get away with being SG heavy because Oats can and will roll with a 3 guard lineup if the roster fits it. Especially with Reid gone, I'm thinking our 3 spot is going to be a bigger shooting guard most of the time.

Philon has declared for the draft, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's gone. We shall see.

I think he’s 100% declaring. Not coming back

Supposedly is hiring an agent and is not maintaining his eligibility (aka he gone)

You can hire an agent and still maintain eligibility. That is not the case here tho.

He needed another year, but won't be surprised if a team drafts him in the first round based on potential. We really need CNO to work some portal magic. This has not been a good off-season for us so far.

Like I said before, it would have been nice to know this in time to get in on Xaivian or another top lead guard.

Oats needs to pull something special I'm not seeing

At least there's plenty of time now to figure it out. Worst case was Philon maintaining eligibility and then pulling the rug out from under us in the summer.

Saw somewhere Wrightsell might play the 1, which gives us something like:

Holloway/Wrightsell
Bethea/Mallette/Hannah
Allen/Jemison
Bol Bowen
Sherrell/Williamson

If we don't end up with another lead guard, we may just try to find one more big body and cross our fingers with the freshmen. Jemison ought to be licking his chops.

Next year is a make the tourney year barring some significant gets out of the portal in the next few weeks.

We don't have a guard we can trust to run the offense in crunch time. We are perilously thin in the front court even if we played 3G-2F lineups all game.

They won't be bad. They'll even be able to beat some very good teams but that lineup is not going to be like the last 3 years. Going to be closer in seeding to the 2021-2022 team if I had to venture a guess.

If that’s what we are rolling with, I don’t think we will be very good. I think you need a point guard and another forward from the portal. And not just bodies. Guys that can play.
