This whole thing reminds me of an Iron Bowl several years back you could see it coming,,,The Barn was riding high.having beaten both Bama and UGA to get into the SECCG.
They were everywhere crowing....just like now...they hadnt won anything.
The bubble went pop in Atlanta and the Tide ended up National Champs.
This team can either step it up or no. The staff can make adjustments or not.
Lets see if we can be as good as we thought we might be.

Your posts drive me crazy but Sears needs to step it up. Don't know what his problem is this year but I don't think it has anything to do with NIL.
If Sears doesn't pick his game up, this teams ceiling in March Madness is considerably lower.

sears is trying to impress nba scouts and oats thinks he's helping by playing him at point guard, smh...

Every coach in the Sec would gladly buy you a steak dinner if you could convince Oats to move Sears to the 2 and run point through Philon or Aden. That's all every coach in this league wants is to take the ball out of Sears hands.

Oats has gotta get rid of the drop coverage this offseason. He won’t but he should.
I don’t remember us running as much drop on the 21 team….seems like we hedged a lot more on defense. maybe I’m misremembering.

I know we were a top 5 defense in 22, and we played a ton of drop coverage with Bediako. But we also had longer athletes on the perimeter that year, which I think was the biggest reason for the great defensive numbers. Miller, Clowney, Gurley...etc, were all tall enough to play the 4, but quick enough to play straight up on guards. But we definitely played a ton of drop behind Sear and Quinnerly. They were the weak defensive links.
We need Reid to get fully healthy and get his stroke going. He's the only guy we have thats long and athletic enough to fill a similar role as Miller did. MoD is a tad stiff, not as fluid. Youngblood has kinda short arms for his height, and isn't terribly fluid either.
We also have been teaching our bigs to get too low. Noticed this with Cliff especially. He gets so low and wide on defense that shorter players can shoot right over him. He doesn't react fast enough to get up. I know he's just trying to get used to the physicality and hold his ground, since the refs don't call it, but he's putting himself in a bad position.
I think Sherrell not playing more early in the season was a mistake, he has some natural heft that allows him to stay more upright on defense. If he had the experience to match he'd have potentially been ready to defend guys like Broome.

The ladies kept it rolling against an outwomanned Texas A&M squad, who had 3 players wearing offensive linemen knee braces. Bama’s largest margin of victory in SEC play since 1999. Sarah Ashlee Barker with a postgame hug with A&M Coach Joanie Taylor (Bama alum & and her coach at UGA). 21 wins and counting.

Oats saying that changes are coming to the starting lineup. Which changes do yall expect to see?

I hope it's Philon, Sears, Reid, MoD, Nelson as the starting group. Just me. Philon is the tallest "quick" guard we have. And we need size at the point against these teams. Clayton and Jones have both given Sears hell.
Cliff just never quite got "it". He doesnt fit the system. Nor does he play drop coverage well. Excellent player, but doesnt fit. I think we'd be a better team right now if Sherrell had been forced to play the 5 and develop.
We need more athletes in the starting group. Stevenson can't seem to jump for his height. In multiple games, he's gotten stuck under the basket and tried a weak layup in a crucial moment just to miss instead of dunking. Youngblood is too stiff, and if his shot isn't falling, he's useless on offense because he can't drive past anybody. Sears needs to be the spot up shooter on kick outs from the lane.

Based on what Oats said in the presser, Reid is very likely out tomorrow night. It's at the end of the interview. . . re-occuring issues with his hamstring that's causing him to miss a lot of practice time.
He also talked at some length about groups playing together. If there's a change to the starting lineup, I'd guess it's Philon for Youngblood.
However, he did mention Cliff's poor defensive start(s) and then improving the next time he's back in the game.
He seemed to question more his own tendency for starters to start the 2nd half. That may be where you get a big shakeup.
Oats addresses many of the issues we all talk about with lineups. His pressers are actually among the best for any coach I've ever watched for real information.
Mainly, Oats talks about the coaches going back and forth over how to keep groups with 2 good shooters and 2 facilitators on the floor without compromising us defensively. He talks about what a lot of us have. The problems getting Sears, Holloway and Youngblood the catch and shoot open looks.
(Sears, Philon and Holloway are the only 3 players he mentions as facilitators and does mention the difficulty of defensively playing Sears and Holloway together).
In my opinion, Philon is the key to everything.
Whether we make a great tourney run may come down to the strides Philon makes running the offense efficiently for 25+ minutes against the best teams.
Which will be a lot easier for him if Nelson and/or Stevenson start making enough 3s that teams don't leave them open down the stretch.
