That didn't make sense at all Sandkhan..

You don't hold any ill will towards him but you don't care about him. Lol

Apparently, you do have ill will towards him if you don't care about him.

I appreciate everything that young man done here. I'm sure he made some mistakes in life that he regrets just like we all have.

You don't know what you would've done if somebody offered you life changing money. I'm glad he made his money because he deserved it after being robbed by NIKE!

Not caring about someone =/= ill will.

I don’t really care about any Memphis players. They aren’t on our team and they aren’t a rival. He played for us but he clearly wanted to go to Memphis so he’s a Memphis guy in my mind.

What does that have to do with him agreeing to come back, announcing his return, then shopping himself out to Penny and trying to nickel and dime us?

I don’t hold any ill will toward him. I just don’t care about him at all because he doesn’t care about us. I’m not going to be affected by his pity party IG post. He can go whine with Penny and Memphis for $5 more.

JQ was always pretty on the surface. I thought overall you knew the devil you were getting with JQ and he didn't really bother me. From all accounts he was kind of a lone wolf, but a bit of a hustler in more areas than just basketball (nothing illegal, but always angling). He always had one of the highest NIL valuations in basketball from the sources who handled that stuff and im sure he was getting plenty of pushback from family, his agent to extract all that value in his final year. Being blunt, I get that. From all accounts he told Oats this is what im offered, if you match I stay, if not im leaving. It was more about the long game for him at that point. He had no future, but he could win the lottery. Alabama spent their money on Estrada, Nelson and Sears and told him to walk. Business for both.

On the flip side.. Griffen I felt like was plotting for a midnight exit and for some reason, for me, Griffen felt much more calculated and cold than JQ. JQ was just an older guy coming off knee surgery with no upside and he made a last gasp money grab.

I guess my biggest issue is that JQ agreed to a figure and announced he was staying then tried to renegotiate.

We aren’t in a bad place for NiL so the guys on our team are getting paid. Could you go and find an extra 20k to go play for another program…probably. JQ did. But he was already making a good deal of money and at a certain point it’s like…how much is your legacy worth? How much is it worth to stick with your team and have a place to come back to in 10 years. Over time you will likely make up that money a great deal through connections and being in the program.

At the end of the day he went and got paid. He played for 3 programs so he really doesn’t have a home and so I’m not sure who a boohoo IG post about being a failure is supposed to appeal to. Send that shite to your family group chat homie.

And in fairness to me I also just think announcements like this are dumb and attention seeking. “I’m leaving Facebook”. “I’m leaving the message board”. Ok we don’t really need to know. You were a college basketball player who doesn’t have college eligibility. We didn’t really plan on seeing you play anymore unless Tubi starts broadcasting YMCA games.

Unless he has personal or financial priorities that keep him here, if I were in his situation I'd try to play in Europe for a few years just for experience of living there.

In all seriousness, the last one I can remember was Jeremy Hays.

I'm pretty sure Gottfried was drafted. I was at the Ala camp when it was announced (7th round?).

You are forgetting a big one, burnout. You could easily be over it by that point in your life.

This x10.

You do everything you can to get a college scholarship and in college you can start to lose the love for basketball. For alot of these players, you have 10+ years into basketball

I know football is starting to play younger but I would argue basketball players start basketball at a younger age.

He literally says that he doesn’t enjoy basketball anymore, hence the retirement.

Is the burnout because he’s done with basketball or because basketball is done with him?

If he was a consensus 1st round pick I doubt he’d be walking away.

He is plenty talented enough to make a decent income in Europe or China. He wouldn't be rich, but could still make enough to support himself day to day though just playing basketball.

Needs to give basketball lessons. ..

$30-$50/hr for individual lessons
$25/hr for group lessons

Use that money to win the lottery

Retire for good.

And he could easily be siting on over a million if he didn't spend it foolishly. Not bad just coming out of college.

He said he has made over a million which will give him a head start in life with his future endeavors. Read his statement.
