As I said before, locker room management will be the biggest key to this season. Great problem to have, but kids will undoubtedly get upset with their role. Oats just has to keep it quiet and keep it from affecting team chemistry.
This team has some incredible depth like nothing I've ever seen at the college level. It's crazy to feel this way about a guy I loved on last year's group, but Dioubate is the only guy I feel even remotely confident won't be a regular rotation guy next year and that can change if he fixes the broken shot. Naas Cunningham would probably be next on that list and he's a top 50 freshman who used to be the highest ranked kid in his class. Guys that could have gone to another solid P5 school and dropped 10+ points for them next season will be riding the pine for us.
Hope UConn or Kansas get the prestige points they need for the Pre-season #1 spot. If it's based on roster talent, continuity, and experience, I think it's very clearly us, but there's no trophy and a lot of attention that comes with it. They can have it.
Edit: Here come the down votes because of the Mo comment

Mo could of left but he didn't. Let's just let Oats cook his master piece he's gathered the ingredients. I think he'll manage the minutes just fine

My predicted starting 5:
Sears
Youngblood
Reid
Nelson
Cliff
Sneakily watch out for Stevenson starting over Grant. I think Jarin takes a big jump this offseason.

Every single one of these guys could have left or gone to another P5 school where they would have had a large role. But rotations don't consist of 13 players. At least 2-3 of these guys will see the floor sparingly. And that sucks for those guys because they deserve minutes, but it's the reality.
Again, I loved Mo this year, and even petitioned him as a starter next to Nelson because of how badly we needed his defensive impact. But Nelson and Stevenson share his position and he can't play next to Cliff without a shot. Maybe Nelson goes 5 but do we really want Cliff and/or Sherrell losing minutes to play Grant out of position?
I think his chances at a regular rotation spot are probably tied to him developing a jump shot, and it needs a complete makeover.

If I had to put money on it, that would probably be my bet. Having said that, there's so many different combinations that could happen. The only lineup I've seen that I'd bet against is Rothstein's (had Sears, Holloway, and Wrightsell starting).
There's 7 players I'd bank on being a part of the rotation: Sears, Youngblood, Wrightsell, Cliff, Nelson, Reid and Stevenson. I'm fairly confident Sherrell at least gets some backup minutes at the 5. At least one of Labaron or Aden will see some backup minutes behind Sears. That's 9 spots and I still haven't mentioned Mallette, Cunningham, or Mo all of whom deserve minutes. Crazy depth.

I think this is what we're going to see on opening night. That's five 5th year Seniors which includes a 2nd team All-American/1st team All-SEC, a 45% 3pt shooter on high volume, an AAC PotY, All-Region player playing his natural position, and the best shot blocker out of the portal that brings a skillset that was sorely missed last season.
Holloway
Mallette
Reid
Stevenson
Sherrell
So this is where it gets tricky because I think we'll see Holloway play a lot of off-ball next season. It'll be really interesting to see how the minutes shake out for the primary Guard off the bench. This bench includes a former McDonald's AA and high 4*, the highest catch-and-shoot 3P% out of the transfer portal, a high 4* that just made the USA u18 team and McDonald's AA, a former 5* that reclassified resulting in a 4* ranking that played big minutes during the FF run, and another high 4* that is also a McDonald's AA.
So yeah that's three McD's AA coming off our bench, a top prospect that performed well as the season progressed, and a really good/proven shooter.
Philon
Mo D
Naas
You have another 4*, a guy who was a big part in winning the GCU game, and yet another 4* that was ranked the #1 overall player in his class not too long ago, so obviously the potential is there.
I don't think I ever would've dreamed of having this kind of roster from 1-13. We have a former top recruit and a guy who helped us win a tournament game as the last two players off the bench and a dude that flipped here from Kansas battling as not even the first Guard off the bench. You will not find a better roster in the SEC and maybe even the country. Another Final Four is the expectation and would be severely disappointed if they don't win the conference. I'm having a tough time even finding a weakness. You have a nice blend of experience, talent, a couple of guys that you can be patient with, and size, and this roster balances each other out.

Man the practices are going to be crazy. This was always mentioned with football about how our depth led to practices being harder than the games. This would be so much fun to watch.

People have discussed it a ton already, but the list of guys that would *obviously play solid minutes for basically every team in the country* just goes on and on.
The no explanation needed guys:
Sears
Nelson
Wrightsell
Omoruyi
Stevenson
You could really include these guys in that list:
Youngblood (could easily start)
Mallette
Holloway
The top 25 freshmen *always play* list:
Reid
Sherrell
That’s already 10 guys. Ridiculous.
Imagine your 10-13 guys being Dioubate and two top 50 recruits.
I would guess the likely starters come from this group: Sears, Wrightsell, Youngblood, Reid, Nelson, Omoruyi.

Now that the roster is set, who do you guys think will be the starting 5 and who is first off the bench. Sears for sure. I am not sold that Stevenson starts. Sorry but I am not up to date on the portal guys.
Wrightsell and Nelson and Cliff round out my top 4. Not sure who the fifth started would be.

Won't matter. We're going to use hockey style line shifts. Oats is bringing a modified Grinnell system to major college basketball.

This roster has potential to be one of the deepest college basketball teams of all time. I know I’m sipping the Koolaid, but we have to be honest about it.

Alabama's Mark Sears will withdraw from the NBA draft and return to school for his final season of eligibility, he told ESPN on Wednesday.
"I got good feedback from the NBA," Sears told ESPN. "But I can still get better in a few areas. I want to show I am a dog on defense next season, continue to bring vocal leadership and work on my body and get into better shape. NIL has changed basketball and NBA teams told me that age isn't a factor in today's game, so I was comfortable coming back to try and bring home a national championship to Alabama."

Chris Youngblood is going to end up being one of the biggest additions by the end of the season. He’s going to play minutes.

I don’t think the Omoruyi / Stevenson / Nelson combo will see much time together until and unless Nelson shows he can guard athletic perimeter guys.
Far more likely that’s a front court rotation with Wrightsell / Youngblood + freshmen mixed in at that wing defender spot defensively.
Primary and secondary ball handler is far more complex and matchup dependent as I suspect Sears will see minutes off the ball depending on how the new backup PGs look, what Oats is trying to create as a matchup issue and how guys like Mallette, Reid and Sherrell show up looking.
The fact that Oats has made multiple statements talking about how people are sleeping on Youngblood makes me think he could be a complimentary primary scorer to take pressure off Sears, but Wrightsell was the highest efficiency offensive guy on the team at one point last year before his injury…
Bottom line is Oats just put together a peak Saban era roster and he can now play any style of game other than old school interior post offense he wants and will have equal or superior talent and experience to anyone in the nation he runs into.

The big thing is going to be getting Youngblood and Omoruyi integrated. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bit of choppy waters in the OOC simply because a good bit of the rotation from last year is gone. Luckily, we're talking about integrating major upgrades from Griffen at 2 and Pringle at 5.
Still a lot of new guys who have never played in Oats scheme.
My guess on the rotation:
Sears / Holloway / Philon
Youngblood / Wrightsell / Mallette
Wrightsell / Mallette / Reid / Dioubate
Nelson / Stevenson / Sherrill / Reid / Dioubate
Omoruyi / Nelson / Stevenson / Sherrill
Hard to make sense of the rotations because Oats believes in position versatility on offense and defense. If Stevenson hits 3s like he did in the regional final, there is a decent argument for him being a stretch 5 in some situations. I imagine with Reid around that Stevenson will mostly play 4 or 5 this year and Reid would be the big wing option.
I dunno, what do you guys think? In the first time in my lifetime, Alabama basketball has a roster that reminds me of some of those peak Saban football rosters. We'd need to have the NCAA go to 12-minute quarters to have enough minutes for this talent.
