I mean in all honesty that basically sums it up. The PG position being an utter disaster on both ends for 75% of games makes it nearly impossible to win unless we make a ton of shots.

It's like trying to win a baseball game making 4 errors and walking 8. It's still possible, but everything else better be absolutely flawless.

We're a tournament team for the second straight year coming off a regular season/conference tournament championship. Oats isn't perfect and there are a few decisions that I wasn't the biggest fan of but I'm not going to question him long-term when the season isn't even finished yet and with this roster, it feels like he's had to coach with one arm tied behind his back.

Now if we see a lot of the same issues next year, with the most talented class ever coming in and hopefully a key transfer or two, then okay yeah I'll start having more doubts.

Well said, same

In some ways it's actually impressive that this team won 19 games and beat some of the teams they did with two of the least fundamentally sound PGs in the country playing 50-60 combined minutes every night. At least that's what I'm going to tell myself all offseason.

We had four different players get suspended a various points, unexpectedly lost Primo to the NBA, lost one of our transfers for the season before he played a single minute, didn't get what we were expecting from the other one, our hyped up freshman PG was a misevaluation who was a big cause of our horrific turnover issues, and our leading scorer spent the entire offseason away from the team because he and his dipshit father thought he was too good for us. Taking all that into account, I struggle to put most of the blame on the coaching staff. They definitely deserve their share, but I'd say it's split 60-30-10 between the players, coaches, and Alabama basketball luck.

This is a solid post, one major point needs to be included.
Being able to recognize, and sign kids who are proven leaders.
Herb Jones, and Brunner wouldn't have let this team implode the way its done this year. There are elite athletes, and there are elite athletes who are leaders! It's OK to sign a kid who's a great player, but is not comfortable with the responsibility that leadership requires, BUT you must bring in the kids that will go the extra mile and set the example on and off the court that teammates respect and admire and want to emulate...and it doesn't hurt for them to "carry a big stick" if/when a teammate gets out of line or lazy.
With every great team, you'll have at least ONE very good leader who'll be the guy everybody else looks to when things get tough.
If I'm Oats, I'm gonna scour the portal looking for guys that might fit that bill, because it's probably too much to ask of a freshman.

I mean seriously

quote:

Alabama Basketball since January 1st
> 9-10 (8-9)
> #39 Overall (#14 offense, #140 defense)
> #306 turnover rate
> #324 defensive rebounding rate
> #330 defensive free throw rate
> #329 3PT %

Honestly, I don't know how we have stayed around .500 the last 2.5 months. We're bottom 10% in the country in like 4 major categories.

It really doesn't help that our Guards can't play defense and then turn around on the other side and give the ball away. It would be nice to get a bit more consistency from this position group next year.

I have no expectations with freshmen anymore, but Jaden Bradley's playing style is a 180 from what JD and Quinerly do. Hopefully he can come in and give us some solid minutes next year that don't involve a mind-numbingly stupid turnover every 4th possession.

Time to call in reservists from the football program.
Calling Kool Aid and Terrion Arnold; report to Oats, this is an emergency.

I hope we play a foreign tour this summer. I think we are eligible for another one now.

don't know how it looked on tv, but the game was not called consistently at all.

It looked the same way, but no way can any rational fan blame the loss on the refs. We had ample opportunity to put that game away.

I honestly think that's not a bad idea. Too bad we got spring training about to start!

nah, I'd rather KoolAid stick to learning how to cover WR's in the offseason.

From a physicality standpoint, if they'd been around for the season, I'd bet this team would have been a helluva lot more aggressive and physical, and maybe less likely to quit when things got tough. (maybe one of those fouls against Pippins would have resulted in the trainer's assistance instead of Vandy points! )

Rojas got hammered everytime he went down low.

Pippen would get touched and get the call.

45 free throws? are you kidding?

Despite our own issues last night, if I were Oats, I would have answered each question from reporters with:

45 free throws

Did he even say anything about it?

I know we had plenty of our own problems but what the officials are doing is ruining the sport. I stopped watching the NBA partly because a foul was called on nearly every possession. There were 54 fouls and 79 free throws given last night. If they had actually called all the times we got mugged in the lane, it would have been higher. Most of the calls they gave Pippen last night were laughable. Next game, he should wear a red jersey like the QB does in practice so he doesn't get touched.

Sucks we aren’t in it, but the rest of this tourney should be entertaining. Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, and Kentucky are all solid teams without one having a clear advantage over any other one. LSU is maybe the only other team that could play spoiler, maybe Miss St if Molinari plays huge and “bad” Tennessee shows up today. Cold and windy day tomorrow here, so looking forward to planting myself on the couch for some entertaining college basketball.

I have a feeling it will be A&M, LSU, Tenn and UK in the final four of the SEC tourney.

I love the way Gary can sometimes play, but he’s just not a great fit in Oats’s system.

There isn't any player on this roster that you should fear leaving including Shack and his father.
