5 teams were tied at 7-7 before last night (lsu, ala, vandy, msu, scar). With a Ken win at home tonight over LSU (probable), that'll leave Ala and winner of SCar/MSU at 7-6. If SCars wins and we can beat them Sat, it'll mean we've moved ahead of all those teams in a week which is hard to do. We'd still have the #5 seed if MSU wins due to being 1-0 vs Ark (MSU 1-1).
Crazy but we have an easier road to a #4 seed in the ncaa tourney than we do in the sec tourney.

We did everything we could to give that game away in the final 3 minutes, but not going g to complain much about a win in the cursed gym. I about list my mind when Gurley just dropped the ball out of bounds.

Pippen emptied the flopping playbook in those last few minutes. It was like a Tom Emanski training video for Flopping. Soccer players around the world are tipping their cap to Pippen this morning

The officials got them back in the game. They cut an 11pt lead to 1 and made 1 fuxking basket.
They called 9 fouls on us after the under 4 media timeout

This is an All-Time tough schedule maybe the toughest in the last 10 or so years. And Nate Oats has a great chance to win 20 games against it. If not for UGA/Mizzou games people would be celebrating the hell out of this team and Oats

After the 6:53 mark when we were up 11, we went 1-8 (the Shack 3) from the field, 1-4 from 3 point land, had 3 turnovers and 1 made basket....and won.
Looks like only about 1000 tix unsold for Sat. Hope it's a nice crowd.

A play Vandy ran last night that I really liked was:
They would have their shooter in the corner on one side of the court, on the opposite wing about 5 feet inside the 3pt line they had their 2 7 footers standing side by side about 3 feet apart. They would then have their shooter hit a dead sprint through that opening and as soon as he got thru the 2 7 footers would step together and close the opening to screen the defender giving them a wide open 3.
This right here at 8:42. It’s probably a common play but I really like it

Those refs really let the game get away from them last night. I'm usually not a ref complainer because it all equals out a bit and you get more calls at home. That's just the way it is.
But last night, vandy players were literally holding our guys 25 feet from the basket, mugging them. Now we got away with some too, especially in the 2nd half but the refs lost control of that game and then called everything in the last few minutes.
Pippen is a whiny bitch.
Do better officials.

Speaking of crowd I noticed a ton of Bama fans at the game. Kudos to the Bama fans for showing up at that cursed gym on a Tuesday night

yea at some point, they showed a section underneath the basket and it looked like more tide fans than vandy.

Yeah lots of Gumps in and around Nashville. Similar to Barners in Atlanta

this should have been called several times last night. Pippen hit a 3 twice and then dove to the side trying to get the foul and the refs ignored him (one time he landed 2-3 feet out of bounds)...but they aren't supposed to ignore him...
quote:
"The rules committee made it clear they want it out of the game," said Gavitt. "We will see a bunch of calls early and it will cause some anxiety for players and coaches but everyone will adjust."
The rule is 4-10.1.C.4 and it is used to identify faking a play, likely on a block, charge, 3-point shot or any other tactic to fool the official.
Collins said the flop is a delay of game, much like putting the ball out of bounds, not coming out of a huddle in time, crowding an inbounds pass. And if there is a flop, it will be a warning first just like these other items. If there is one delay of game and then a flop then it becomes a class B technical. Teams will get one warning for a delay of game. The second is a technical foul.

The inconsistency this year has been frustrating but this is an incredibly difficult schedule.

While I think the whistles were inconsistent, I think most of the calls involving Pippen were fouls. He sells some of them pretty well(flops) but they all looked like fouls on the replays. The call I didn’t agree with was the one on JQ on the 3-point shot. Surprised the announcers agreed with it.
And we certainly weren’t getting any of those calls on the other end. JQ got hip checked going into the lane on one possession, and no call. Pippen would have gotten that call.

Got the ugly win that we were talking about yesterday, no matter how hard the universe seemed to try to give the W to Vandy. 20 wins should be the minimum now, which is obviously a successful season if it does happen. The toughest schedule in the country by far and 7-7 against Q1 and no Q4 games played. Unfortunately, we just don't match up very well with UK and AU this year, which results in 0-4 against them, but oh well.
I'm hoping last night lit a fire under JQ and that flame keeps going for the rest of the year, we're a different team when he plays like he did last night. Especially when it's an off night for Shack and JD can't get it going in the half-court offense. It seemed like everything went against us last night with turnovers, foul trouble, and Vandy getting to the line 30+ times. Always great to get a win at Memorial.

I think that was the biggest issue. Like you said, most of those fouls on him were fouls. His game is body positioning and drawing contact and he's annoyingly very good at it, and referees look for it.
However, our guys would slash to the rim and get body bumped or hip checked and get absolutely yilch. Incredibly frustrating, even for a road game where you understand you won't get the whistle.
