Amen holt gives effort, not sure anyone is gonna be asked to leave... Next years class was recruited under presumption that 5 would be leaving the program. Its also a class that fits what coach oats wants. Bradley is just a heady, fundamentally sound leader, griffin has immense upside, and miller is the most underrated 5 star ive ever seen, hes nba ready now and a matchup nightmare at 6'9. Add burnett and i think we ll be able to lock teams up defensively. Hope JD does return, hes a worker and the desire to be great is there i believe

I guess we will see how it plays out. I hope you are right and he turns out to be a player but I just don't see it.

Oats on JQ

quote:

“We challenged him that his defense had to get better. He had to play harder. We weren’t going to be able to win games if he didn’t give us better effort on defense. I thought he responded great. I thought his effort was way better.”

He's got a great wingspan. He gives good effort on the defensive end and he has good size for a wing.

He doesn't trust his handle or his shot at this level yet. But I think he will find his confidence.

Ive been disheartened at times when i see some say they dont like yhis team or question these guys desire.. only 2 games i was disappointed in the guys was the mizzou and georgia losses. Being humbled can be a good learning tool tho and since that georgia game i havent once questioned our guy's effort. We do have limitations athletically and on the defensive end as far as consistency. But this schedule has prepped this team for pretty much any team or style theyll see in march. Hopefully the shooting catches fire to get us to the second weekend and id take that . Theres a stability and culture that we ve havent seen here since the wimp days.

I have never said I didn't like this team or question their desire/effort so not sure why you replied to me. I am strictly talking about Holt in particular. I agree he gives great effort and plays defense but he has been disappointing on the offensive end. He came (if I'm not mistaken) with a reputation of being one of the best pure shooters in his class nationwide and his shooting has been abysmal. As I said earlier, hopefully he will find his stroke and be a productive player on both ends of the court.

Your guy JD hasn’t lived up to expectations. I’m confident he will get there but He needs another year of college

Anybody know what has happened to Gary’s defense? He was so damn good on that side of the ball last year and it just seems like he is struggling on that end this year.

I expected him and Keon to step up and take Herbs leadership role on that end.

I think we just lack a leader that’s holding everyone responsible. Usually there’s that guy on the team that everyone looks up to and they kind of go how he goes, but we don’t have that.

We have a bunch of individuals who have to choose to care each and every game, which is why we are so spotty.

But, it’s a testament to the talent we have under oats now. This is probably his floor from now on with the talent he’s bringing in.

Honestly, it’s probably a good thing to have kind of a let down year as far as expectations if we are concerned with a team going for him.

Rojas not being able to dunk the amazing JQ pass was kinda embarrassing….ngl

As the lone Rojas defender from last year… just be glad it went in. Dude gives what he has every night . Unlike others , effort is never lacking on his part and Oats sees that as well

It's a mental thing with him as well I think. Gary hasn't had a solid game lately and it has nothing to do with the mask. He's fell off in the rebounding category & the hustle plays. Gary also looked to have lost some explosiveness compared to last season or that could be my eyes playing tricks on me.

Four Score in Double Figures to Lead No. 24/25 Alabama to a 74-72 Win at Vanderbilt

The Crimson Tide was led by Jahvon Quinerly’s 19 points off the bench, while JD Davison added 10 points and 10 rebounds

After trailing by five at intermission, the No. 24/25 Alabama men's basketball team used a strong second half start and free throw shooting down the stretch to hang on for a narrow 74-72 win at Vanderbilt Tuesday night.

It was the Crimson Tide's (18-10, 8-7 SEC) third consecutive win inside Memorial Gymnasium – a first for the UA program since achieving the feat in the mid-1980s.It was also UA's fourth win over the team's last five contests.

Junior guard Jahvon Quinerly came off the bench to score 19 points and lead four Alabama players in double figures. Freshman guard JD Davison earned his first career double-double with a 10-point, 10-rebound performance to go along with five assists and three steals. Graduate transfer Noah Gurley added 11 points and three blocks and senior Keon Ellis had 10 points and eight boards in the win.

Vanderbilt (14-13, 6-9) was led by Scotty Pippen Jr.'s 24 points, six assists and six steals.

Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"I was really pleased with our guys' effort. We didn't play particularly well on offense in the first half, had way too many turnovers. This was a character win. We had every chance we could have to fold. Things weren't going our way offensively in the first half… we have to do a better job guarding without falling. We had a lot of guys make some big plays for us. Offensively, we have room to grow. We didn't shoot the ball particularly well but we hit our free throws tonight. We don't win this game without every last free throw we made tonight. I'm happy for our guys. For us to beat a team that had won four straight SEC games here at their home and in a place that Alabama has historically struggled to get wins, I thought this was a big character win for us."

No. 24 Alabama Basketball Bounces Back to Overcome Vanderbilt, 74-72 (SI)

The Crimson Tide responded to a lackluster first half with a high-scoring final 20 minutes to down the Commodores in Memorial Gymnasium.
