How can you tax something people may not use? I drink but I don't particularly like beer but they want an extra $32 from me for beer tax for season tix (16 games x 2 tix)? Nah.

On the other side, it may be possible to skim a little off the profit margin on the $15 they'll likely charge for a beer and not pass the tax on to ticket buyers.

no doubt, how much do we think the beers would cost? $10?

Maybe. But lets say they sold beer at $10 and Bama averaged 10,000 tickets sold per game. Can they reliably sell 1,000 beers a game to completely offset it? Not every seat bought is filled and a bunch are filled with underaged kids. Plus not everyone is gonna want a drink on Tuesday/Wednesday night or Saturday at Noon. Not to mention that beer sales would cut into soda and water sales.

Maybe, but if the tax total was $10k and they sold even 500 beers at $10 on the very worst night (I bet they cost more than that too) that's still like selling the beers for $8 each and I'm no great businessman but think there could still be some profit in that.

But I don't see how it could have gotten this far unless everything material had been disclosed and worked out

I wonder if there was public discussion on this at the City Council meeting where the resolution was passed. The way it is presented, it does look bad for the city, but I’d really be surprised if they made this move unprompted. At the same time though, this is a potentially decent dent into their tax revenues, with potentially increased costs.

I think eventually the two sides will work something out. They generally have a good working relationship, or at least they appear to.

Wouldn't the city benefit from the sales tax on the alcohol? Why do they need to tack on an extra fee?

Looks like the city got greedy and tried to find a way to fill some budget holes. Home football games would be almost $2M per year in additional fee based on that structure.

Herb against Primo tonight. Herb’s playing better but Josh’s team is taking it to them. Josh has 4 fouls in just 9 min

Lifelong Spurs and Bama fan here. Fun to watch the 2 guys play in the same game (Especially since Sexton is out for the season with an injury). You are correct. Jones' performance over Primo is so obvious given 4 years over 1 at the Capstone. Spurs announcers gushing over Herb's defense. It's not hyperbole', I think Herb could be the best defender in the league in 2 years.....

Love the Primo pick since Spurs are my team, but just can't see them picking him so high at 12th over Duarte, Moody, and Christopher.... That's probably why I am not making millions as a GM.

I can tell you haven't watched many Spurs games. Josh Primo already displayed crazy potential in a NBA game multiple times.

I'm still shocked Oats called 2 timeouts Assuming Arky still had one left to keep from helping them, he should have called one after Gurley’s second shot to get Q out of the game and get Holt or Miles in for defense!! He did the offense for defense substitution the possession before but just doesn’t seem to understand that he doesn’t have to wait for a dead ball. Tons of coaches call that timeout after scoring to set their defense and get their best defenders in the game for the last stop. Oats is fantastic, but his TO use is the weakest part of his coaching and it’s by a large margin.

I was at the game so I missed Oats post game interview with the ESPN guys. One of them asked him that exact question about setting up his defense, and he responded that “he thought about using a timeout.” It wasn’t a particularly inspiring answer but at least it was a thought and maybe he will learn for next time (although you typically learn better when it actually costs you). He’s still growing as a coach but I love how analytical he is in everything except timeouts. Need a math/stats PhD at UA to do some analytics on timeouts to get this thing solved for good!

Here’s the ESPN page and the video is a few items down the page (couldn’t figure out how to link just the video)

All Alabama coaches in sports that have timeouts have clauses in their contracts that pay them $10,000 for each one that goes unused over the course of a season.

Lol…you’d think the networks would give them 10k to call them so they can run more commercials

I think Why Oats doesn’t use is because you only get 4…..3 for the 2nd half. And because there is a media timeout every 4 minutes he tries to save his timeouts for the end of the game in case you need them.

I mean yeah if we were hitting 40% from 3, we’d be beating the shite out of nearly everyone. That’s true, but if we would play defense and occasionally rebound, we’d still beat most everyone even with as bad as a shooting team as we are. The UK game was pretty much the only loss I can remember where it was solely the offense that let us down.

I think Oats said it best last year….Us making 3s only determines Margin of victory not whether we win or lose

On This Date in Crimson Tide History
February 15, 2020: Wendell Hudson, the first African-American to receive a scholarship, and the first to be a head coach at the university, had the first jersey retired in Crimson Tide history during a halftime ceremony. Herb Jones, playing with a cast on one hand, grabbed 17 rebounds and helped lead the 88-82 victory over LSU.

We kinda knew it after the cast game, but he's a legend. Maybe the best defender in program history and a damn warrior.
