we should get a return game vs memphis. Saw this:

While Memphis will likely make a return trip to Coleman Coliseum in 2022, that game hasn’t officially been announced yet.

Were supposed to but got cancelled and replaced with the infamous Western Kentucky game.

But yea it's technically "been played" I think.

Aren't we in the Charleston tournament or am I just completely making that up?

Plain and simple, we have guys that play that need a red light on a 3. The analytics say 3s and shots at the rim, but for a guy like Rojas or Quinerly I’d wager the analytics say they’re better off taking mid range shots or shots at the rim.

Rojas needs a red light, JQ and JD need a yellow light- Miles, Shack, and Keon need green lights. Otherwise he needs to approve the open mid range jumper. One of those going in is better 10/10 times than a wide open 3 clanking off the back iron. We’ve got a good shooter and two decent ones. The other guys don’t need to be shooting 3s, those are just wasted possessions 8/10 times and the numbers back that up.

I think you have to continue to give JQ the green light and live with it and hope he gets hot down the final stretch of the season and into the tournament.

Yea, you might make our floor a little higher by making him a yellow light guy, but you make our ceiling MUCH lower.

For us to have a chance of doing anything in March, we have to get JQ hitting at a decent clip again. Obviously there is no guarantee that happens. If it doesn't, we just continue to flounder like we have been since the Memphis game and limp into the NCAAT (if we can even do the minimum to get there).

But I think its a chance we have to take, because Quinerly finding the stroke again is the best chance we have to be dangerous in March. He is the one guy we have that can consistently create his own shot off the dribble.

As SOG pointed out a few pages back, Quinerly is really the key to the whole thing.

Arkansas Fined For Competition Area Policy Violation

The Southeastern Conference announced today that the University of Arkansas will be fined for a violation of the league's access to competition area policy, due to fans entering the court following its men's basketball game against Auburn University on February 8.

Arkansas will incur a fine of $250,000 for a third offense under the league's access to competition area policy. Arkansas was last fined for a violation following its football game against Texas in September.

Fines levied against schools for violation of the access to competition area policy are deposited into the SEC Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund.

The policy states that "access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy."

Financial penalties, which were increased by action taken during the 2015 SEC Spring Meetings, are imposed for violations in all sports sponsored by the Conference. Institutional penalties range from $50,000 for a first offense to fines of up to $100,000 for a second offense and up to $250,000 for a third and subsequent offenses. The policy was originally adopted in 2004.

Just remembered we’re actually in the PK85. 16 teams, mostly blue bloods. Will be FUN.

Well yeah I get that it's a hindsight based discussion. I acknowledged as much. My concern is that, so far, our track record with transfers has been a bit spotty in terms of how good of a fit it ends up being. It's never going to be an exact science, but as we can see down in the Lee County Agrodome nailing the portal can take a shite team and immediately turn it into a title contender.

A lot of Auburn's success comes from the fact they're in a recruiting hotbed being so close to Atlanta. They get their top talent from there (Smith) and get a second chance in the portal (Kessler, Johnson).

But yeah it will be interesting to see how they do after this season, I'm not sure you can rely that heavily on the portal every year.

We'll never know of course, but I do wonder what this season would've been like with Nimari Burnett available.

I wonder about this staffs evaluation of bigs.

Hawkins, Rojas, Brunner' Alex T and now Gurly. I give a little time for CB. Hopefully he will improve. For Cb to be a big help in Oates system, he needs to learn how to block in the lane to open it for the drivers. Of course, Oates needs to have four guys that can shoot and drive. Our bigs just clog up the lane right now.

I am disappointed in him in the sense that he has clearly chosen not to take on any sort of leadership role on or off the court. His play has been pretty much the same as it was last year, but with more minutes. He has cost himself a ton of money by not wanting to be anything more than a role player for some strange reason.

While I don't think he's aggressive enough on offense, I do view him as the leader of the team. He's the only guy that has shown that quality at all in my opinion which is probably one of the biggest reasons this team struggles. He's the only one I see giving others directions and constantly trying to huddle guys up during a dead ball. His "WTF" face whenever Quinerly (mostly) or Shack do something dumb late in the game has defined this season for me this far

The Extra Point: Can Alabama Basketball Finish the Season Strong?

The next few weeks of games will decide the course of Alabama's season.

Barring a crushing late-season collapse, Alabama is on track to make the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years for the first time since 2006, which is an impressive feat in and of itself.

One of these is not like the others. Before his injury, I might've argued Bruner as our most important player on last year's roster.

As for the other guys, Hawkins followed him from Buffalo and you have to take a few swings at that level. Tchikou must be a total head case. He's fooled A LOT of people. I was never a fan of the Gurley addition as he didn't really fit what we do best. And as much as Rojas drives me crazy, he does seem to play with an infectious energy and all our guys seem to pick it up with him in the game. Just sucks that he sucks and thinks he's MJ.

I despise Pearl, but the guy's an excellent talent evaluator.

I wouldn’t mind Oats getting rid of Henry and getting someone in here with Atlanta ties.
