Also I have no doubt that the giant A could look a bit tacky in person. Guess we’ll see.

Definitely first stage of drawings type of thing, though. Still remember a bunch of the stuff in the very initial drawings of "New Braves Stadium" and the Battery. Tons of stuff that didn't end up being there.

Looks kind of tacky to me in this pic:

I definitely see what my guy was talking about with it looking like a barn, but I definitely like the old school fieldhouse look combined with the campus architecture (brick and white columns).

Hmm, yeah, that rendering looks a tiny bit different than the one I saw earlier. Still don’t hate it necessarily.

I think they could make it work, but it will just be a matter of the overall look, how it blends in with the rest of the building, etc.

For whatever reason, some Alabama logo apparel looks a bit crappy to me and some looks great, and I can’t always put my finger on why I like what I like.

I see field house a lot more than I see barn.

Glad we are getting something and I guess the inside will look nice but not crazy about that pic

At the location of the building in the rendering, the glass wall is facing southwest, which seems like a terrible idea with the sun. Unless we're planning on playing 4:00 or 5:00 games where the opponent plays the first half directly into the sunlight before it sets at halftime.

Also supposedly there will be about 2,000 students and there are currently about 6,700 season ticket holders so hopefully I can still get them without too crazy a price hike.

Need to go back to the block A with the elephant. At center court too.

I saw a quote somewhere from Byrne where they talked to the folks at Hinkle about the type glass to use to help with sun issues.

Found it:

quote:

Alabama AD Greg Byrne was asked by a trustee about windows allowing natural light into proposed basketball arena. Byrne said they have discussed a curtain system or frosting the glass for the west-facing side.
