Is it though? Most schools at least put the students along one of the baselines. Some put them courtside, but it's less common. There are a few big time basketball schools like Michigan State and Duke who stick them right on top of the court though. I can't imagine there are many like Alabama who stick the vast majority of them up in the corner.

if we could assign unused lower-level tickets to students after the tip, or just stopped checking after like the under 10 mark in the first half and let students or people from the upper levels move down into the empty seats at a certain point.
It wasn’t that long ago that they use to invite fans to move down during the first media time out (not to the floor, but to lower levels of the stands) by an overhead announcement. I don’t recall hearing that this year.

I wish they’d let boosters just buy football points then. Because some buy basketball season tickets with no intention of going to more than 2 games a year

To bad most of you missed the Wimp days when it was packed and crazy loud. And, its a nicer facility now than it was back then.

For new arenas, I think 10,000-12,000 is about right. Basketball is better the closer fans are to the court. Feel like ~12,000 is when arena has to build lower deck seats further horizontally which also pushing second deck back as well.
Yes, that is plenty as long as you are aware of where you need to put the students.

That's unfortunate. The new arena debate and the money involved is one thing, but there are so many little things we could be doing to improve the atmosphere in Coleman RIGHT NOW that we just refuse to do for one reason or another.
The most infuriating thing all season in that regard was a home game (I don't recall which) where the student section filled up and students reported being turned away on Twitter, only to turn on the TV and see empty seats in the lower level plainly visible.
That's inexcusable.

anything under 12,000 seats would be a disaster, and I dont think they will go there. IMO, there is really nothing wrong with the current facility. People complain on this board about the lighting, but there is plenty of light on the court. Do you really want to sit in bright lights?
They could put a lower ceiling and take out 3,000 seats and make the place feel smaller, compressed and loud. To bad most of you missed the Wimp days when it was packed and crazy loud. And, its a nicer facility now than it was back then.
It's not so much seating capacity as it is seating location. We're 28th in the country and 5th in the conference when it comes to capacity, we're even above some schools that would be considered blue bloods or top programs.
The main issue that I, and seemingly a lot of others, is when it comes to home-court advantage it makes no sense having a good portion of the student section in the rafters of a very tall arena (hence the airport hangar jokes) and not closer to the court. Compared to people who buy tickets for football purposes. Of course, they still cheer but I think almost everyone would rather see actual loud fans compared to golf claps until 2 minutes left in the game.
With the SEC rising among the ranks and becoming a premier college basketball conference, I would take every advantage I could get and that starts with making home-court as loud as possible.

Alabama Looks to Ride Momentum Heading into Tuesday Night’s Contest at No. 1/T1 Auburn
Alabama will play the second of its current stretch of three consecutive top-5 ranked opponents when it travels to Auburn, Ala., to take on the No. 1/T1 Auburn Tigers Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN. It marks the second meeting this year between the rivals as the Tide fell to then-No. 4/4 Auburn, 81-77, Jan. 11 in Tuscaloosa.
This will be the 12th time Alabama takes on the nation's No. 1 team according to the Associated Press, holding a 4-7 record in those contests. The last time the Crimson Tide defeated the nation's top-ranked team came in a 70-67 win over Stanford in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament (3/20/04). Alabama's last regular season victory over a No. 1 team came on Jan. 8, 1994 in a 66-64 home victory over Arkansas. Finally, the Tide's only road win over a No. 1 team in program history came at UCLA on Jan. 28, 1982.

This is gonna sound sarcastic, but I’m serious. I had a really rough morning and I took it out on a board of people I know nothing about. Sorry for the childish personal attacks. Not saying I won’t come across as an a-hole in the future, but I won’t be a little bitch about it like I was today.
