Hopefully, every coach that argues a call that steps on the floor against us has the same T called for the rest of the year.

“I don’t think we’ve lost since he’s got a tech since he’s been here, so I feel like that’s a good stat,” Shackelford told reporters. “He’s into the game. He’s very passionate about the game. Obviously, we don’t want techs, we don’t wanna give the other team free points, but it just fires us up more to double down and get stops and win the game.”

Added Oats, “I think that’s true. It’s never been on purpose, but it’s true. So I guess if we’re in trouble, I can go ahead and get a T on purpose from now on.”

So what happened? I was teaching a CPR class and only saw Bama was trailing at halftime. I started to get worried but then I remembered an expert told us earlier today that nobody in the top 25 could beat this team.
I don’t think we’re some invincible force, but I personally would bet the Alabama money line against any team in the country. I’m sorry some of you took this so personally, but I’m looking forward to being proven right and y’all coming around.

After that performance I’m ready to buckle up for the Oakland game.

Did anyone else hear Eli say early in the game that Diante Smith from South Alabama was a former Alabama commit?? Immediately I thought of Diante Wood but thought maybe he changed his last name like Derrick (Owens) Lassic or Braxton (Blackwell) Key so I googled Diante Wood and he is now at Tennessee Tech after transferring from Jacksonville which is where he transferred to from Alabama.

I think he was only committed for a week or two. It was a weird deal.

Correct. He was only committed here for a few days if I'm not mistaken.

Who took anything personally?

I’m assuming you’re pretty young and maybe not used to having your opinions challenged. Just because that happens doesn’t mean the people making those challenges are somehow offended.

You made a very bold and brash statement about a team with a great number of new players based on nothing more than 2 home games against supposed to be good mid majors. The very day you made the prediction, the team nearly lost a home game to a supposed to be bad mid major.

Everyone here wants this team to be as good as you say they are, but the body of evidence to state with certainty they’re that good simply doesn’t exist yet.

Every Alabama basketball season thread needs a CrimsonFever to provide the delusional homer takes that offset the jaded cynicism the rest of us bring to the table. Looks like this dude who robbed his mom will be this year's version.

I feel like this might be overstating the case a little bit. They were in a tight game with a lesser talented team. But i dont know if I'd say USA is a bad team this year. Either way, USA had a chip on their shoulder and played probably their best game.

I loved the comment that someone here had, Nate Oats is inevitable. You could see that if Bama just stopped making so many dumb turnovers and started getting their regular shots within the offense, they'd pull away.

Last year we could throw out Petty, Keon, Herb, Gary, and Bruner if we wanted to.

That’s, umm, pretty good on defense.

Yep. That's tough to score on. Last night, in crunch time, we ran Quin, Shack, JD, Ellis, and Bediako. That's definitely on offensively focused lineup. But without Gary, it made sense. We wondered all off-season if we were gonna see it. And we saw it when it was the most critical stretch.

Oakland may be tough.

They made West Virginia question if they're worth a damn. And then they beat Oklahoma State. They apparently run a pesky zone defense, and are well coached. So they definitely can't be written off, like I had already done a month ago. No cupcakes until after Memphis.

Were they revving their Harleys inside of Coleman? If so, definitely justified.

That's a fair point. Just like with Bama the body of evidence isn't large enough yet. Lesser talented would have been a better way to phrase it.

Yeah it was kind of a strange lineup. Q had been struggling with turnovers so i think they wanted JD in there to bring the ball up. But JD didnt have any points until that dunk in the final 1-2 minutes. Bediako gave USA a lot of trouble around the rim bc they didnt have anybody close to his size. I think Gonzalvez is 6'8 and he wanted to hang out on the perimeter. But we also had some bad possessions where they'd give Bediako the ball around the free throw line and ask him to be a playmaker. I think Gurley can handle that role better than Charles if that is what Oats wants to do, but Gurley thought he was John Petty last night.

You must’ve been sitting really close to me because I was a row over from the USA kids. It’s always the smallest guy in the group that’s the mouthiest and this dude was no different

The pick and roll with Bediako is a real interesting new wrinkle, and it's definitely coming around, but we've also got some kinks to work out with it.

There were at least 2-3 times when Bedikao received the pass from JQ way too far away from the rim. There is no reason to ever have Bediako needing to dribble off of a PNR. Catch, step, dunk. Or catch, settle, pass.

You're just not stressing the defense out by having Bediako catch the ball 15 feet from the hoop. You're just setting yourself up for turnovers.
