JD hasn't been scoring but he's been affecting the game in multiple ways which is why his ceiling is very high.

We still don’t have the full non conference schedule yet?

It is just summer league and he was very bad in his first 3 games. Wouldn’t draw any conclusions off of this performance. I’m hopeful he can build off this, and have good camp with the official roster.

No, most of them around the country aren't released yet either.

Stop...Let's speak facts.

He hasn't been good scoring the ball!

Vs Heat (Debut) (L): 10 Points, 6 Rebounds, 6 Assists, 3 Blocks, & 2 Steals

Vs Bucks (Bad Game) (W): 5 Points, 3 Rebounds, 6 Assists, 2 Blocks, 1 Steal & 5 Turnovers

Vs Golden State (W): 5 Points, 4 Rebounds, & 9 Assists

Vs Grizzlies (W): 28 Points, 5 Rebounds, 10 Assists, 1 Block, & 3 Steals

So just because JD hasn't been scoring means he's been playing bad lol...I will give you one which would be his second game.

Peep the all around numbers....It's not all about scoring

Let’s do it. You’ve clearly cherry-picked the stats to fit your narrative.

Heat game- 27% from the field. 10 pts on 11 shots

Bucks game- 20% from the field, 5 pts on 5 shots.(missed both game tying free throws at the end of regulation)

Warriors game- 25% from the field, 5 pts on 8 shots.

Grizzlies game- helluva performance, gave him his props.

If you think the other games were great performances, you’re entitled to that opinion, doesn’t make it a fact.

However, there’s a reason he was picked 56th instead of were he was mocked(11th) preseason. There’s a reason he’s on a two- way non guaranteed deal.

He’s got a long way to go. I think he can get there, and I also think he made the right decision to go pro. Really pulling for him but let’s be objective here.

Speaking of cherry-pickin, you’re the one who only included scoring…

I listed his efficiency, would be redundant to list the same stats Joka did. Simply adding the parts he left out. Low scoring is one thing, low scoring on high volume is another.

There’s more to basketball than scoring, sure, but it definitely does matter. You can’t just gloss over horrendous efficiency because “there’s more to basketball than scoring”

Still focused on the scoring side of things.

Blue Collar (Nate Oats) Basketball

JD did other things like assist, rebound, deflect, & block shots.

Matter of fact...tell me what rookie is putting up the type of assist numbers JD has?

I was honest about the Bucks game and guess what happened...you said pretty much the same thing I said about it. (Bad Game)

It's okay to give him his just do!

Because he’s not playing in the Nate Oats basketball league. Honest question, if JD performs equally to his first 3 SL games you think he’ll make the Celtics roster? Shooting 20% from the field in 3 consecutive games deserves high praise?

Yes I’m “still focused” on scoring the ball, it’s not the only way to affect the game of basketball, you’ve made that point abundantly clear. However, what successful team’s point guard is averaging 6 pts on 20% shooting? The worst shooting season in the history of professional basketball was John Mahnken at 27.2% .

JD even has the benefit of a smaller sample size and still comes in below the worst shooting season in the history of the sport.

And we are still talking about SCORING!

Gots to be more careful...

Notice you didn't factor that fourth game in to fit the narrative. Lol

Goodnight buddy!

I was the one who brought up the 4th game silly. I was literally shouting out his performance.

We were talking about the first three games, because you said I wasn’t speaking facts when I said his first 3 games were bad.

From years of watching Celtics summer league, I've learned to take most performances with a grain of salt. He still has a lot to work on to become a PG at the NBA level and I would say his two biggest concerns are shooting and turnovers. So when you have a guy shooting 20% over a few games, the rest of the game is nice but the biggest issues are still present and will be present for a while. Fortunately, both JD and the Celtics have the luxury of quite a bit of developmental time at their disposal.

I’m not a season ticket holder, but I got a season ticket holder to help me buy a couple Gonzaga tickets through her account whatever it takes to have good seats

Agree, he couldn’t have gone to a better situation for him. He’s a late second round work in progress, but all the tools are there.

We all want him to succeed, but Joka takes any sort of constructive criticism, or honest takeaways as a personal slight. JD can’t breathe without Joka saying it’s the best inhale/exhale he’s ever seen.

They have to be related or otherwise know each other. He Gumps hard in general, but it's dialed up to 11 for JD.

The Celtics are arguably the best organization in the NBA he could have gone to though. They develop players well and there's no pressure to rush him along. But he has to get to where these strong performances are an every other game thing rather than an every other week thing. We all know he can have a big game. It's just that he always followed those big games up with a handful of stinkers until his next big game.

Pretty Good Write Up of JD's performance during Summer League so far, touched on some points that we've discussed here. Always nice to get another fanbase's opinion as well.

I don’t think anything looks wrong or broken with JD’s shot. With some hard work, I think he could eventually be a pretty good shooter.

He is going to really have to ramp it up defensively though. Some of that is literally just learning how to play harder (someone on here said he just mainly just played on the back end of a 2-3 zone in high school and that totally made sense - unless it was just made up, of course). He’s got to play much much harder on that end of the court to have a chance of cracking the Celtics rotation in the next 2-3 years.

I have REALLY enjoyed watching Keon and JD in their summer league games.. Here are JDs stats compared to the BEST in assists out of the 414 players who participated. JD was 2nd only to a 2nd year NBA player who many believe will be an NBA all-star. JD played ok on defense, he definitely tried his hardest. His FTs looked great, his 3 pt was good, turnovers were ok, MUCH better than when he played with us ... But the main thing was that he DEFINITELY made the offense go. Lobs, drives, kickouts, cross court passes that DIDN'T go into the stands. He just looked great and I was so surprised.

JD's assists!!

Edit: I just re-read my post and I guess it might sound too overboard. I was just happy for him. Maybe it is the wider lane, or maybe he has been working very hard over the past 4 months, but he looked like a mess when he played for us, and now he is so much better.

Also guys, he and Keon are playing at against much better talent now too, so that is something to consider.
