Oh man, that's awesome. Never heard of that!

Now that I'm going down a rabbit hole on Torvik, it looks like these are the only games where we've given up >1.000 PPP:

[1.248] Oklahoma
[1.209] Gonzaga
[1.114] Connecticut
[1.055] Memphis

Interesting.

I hope He's able to come back to the starting lineup. He brings much needed shooting and defense. Bradley, JQ and Griffen would be a great second unit backcourt.

The bench on this team is the most absurd part to me and what makes us special.

We have three 5th year players on the roster that have played in 100+ college games, and they are ALL on the 2nd unit!

Quinerly - 108 games, 34 starts
Gurley - 143 games, 98 starts
Welch - 120 games, 105 starts

I would be shocked if there was another team in the nation that had 237 career starts running their 2nd unit.

As a matter of fact if you just took our bench.

Quinerly
Burnett
Griffen
Welch
Gurley
Pringle

I believe that team by itself could win at least 6 or 7 games in the SEC.

Let's go Gators!

Last night was fun. All the home games have been a good time. Get there while you can folks.

After a really awful start to the season from 3, Griffen has quietly shot 39% since the beginning of conference play.

I love Clowney as well. You can tell he's never satisfied. He has this look on his face while on the court...it's like a "I want to bury this team" kind of look.

His intensity is contagious.

Only 9 games left in the reg season. Time to lock in because it's going to be a tough finish. That's why I like seeing Texas A&M lose last night. Need Tennessee to drop another game before we play them as well. I want that SEC crown.

at Auburn, at Tennessee, vs Arky, vs Auburn and at Texas A&M are all still very tough games. Arky is at home but they are improving.

I want to sweep the barn but playing in their arena is always difficult. Have to beat them in Coleman.

I'd love to see 18-0 but we know that's unlikely. 16-2 should be doable obviously.

Too much Bama in me when it comes to following hoops. I'm always going to be paranoid with how we finish. This group is built different, though.

On to LSU.

Shot quality says this should have been a 14 point Alabama win? Doesn't seem legit.

I think last night's game broke the SQ metric.

ETA: Vanderbilt went 3-30 from 3 so obviously SQ metric had to figure out how much was just dreadful shooting (unlucky for Vanderbilt) and how much was attributable to Alabama defense. SQ says that Vandy should have made 7-8 more 3 pointers than they did. Maybe so, but I felt like the vast majority of their 3s were of the "chuck it up because the offense is stalled out" variety rather than the "good shots off screens or drive and kick outs" variety.

Yea.....like I posted last night, I'd be very curious to see this SQ score compared to actually watching the quality of their shots.

This does not line up at all with the actual quality of the looks they got from 3. Their SQ % seemed to be in about the 5th percentile, but it might be possible that the 2nd half was better and brought it up.

Shot quality is a shitty predictor of who shouldve won or what the score shouldve been in a game. Players miss “good” open shots and hit “bad” contested shots all the time. Its not as simple as who takes the best shots is gonna win.

Right but it can useful to shed a little more light on whether your defense or offense was executing well or not. It's imperfect, but useful in my opinion.

Obviously making baskets on offense and preventing baskets on defense is the end product that matters, but SQ can provide some insight on whether your offense and defense are working property to provide you the best opportunity to make shots and have the opponent miss shots. Over the course of a whole season I bet SQ (if it's measured correctly) is one of the best analytic tools to show strength of teams.

They were. Even most of their open looks came off of long rebounds and were not open shots created in the flow of the offense. They definitely missed some open 3s, but not enough to have made it a competitive game. I'm also not understanding where we scored more than expected at the rim. Almost all of our 2s were dunks.

Rocketed up recruiting boards throughout his senior year. I see no reason why he won't be an NBA prospect in the future

We should've beat Oklahoma according to shot quality if that gives you any indication of how good it is as a predictive metric.

Its good for seeing if your team and/or your opponent are getting/giving up quality shots or not and thats about it.

I agree. He's got work to do defensively, but his shooting is coming along and he's got some potential off the bounce from what I've seen. Presumably he will get to handle the ball more next year so we can see more of it, but I've often found myself impressed with his body control in traffic.

One of the most exciting things about this team is that we are going to bring back a whole bunch of them next year, even if Clowney ends up leaving.

- Bradley
- Sears
- Nimari
- Griffen
- Welch (has another year I believe)
- Chuck
- Pringle
- Possibly Clowney
