Yeah my dad retired to the coast and is super excited about going to the game Tuesday. He took me to all the home games growing up (driving from B’ham), which got me into basketball in general as well as Bama basketball specifically. Going to feel like a home crowd!
Grew up going to Bama games (parents were season ticket holders) as a kid throughout the 80s and as a student in the mid 90s. Have been in the Mobile/Baldwin County area the last 15 years so rarely make home games now.
I'll be there with my gf tomorrow night. Btw, the Mitchell Center on the USA campus is a nice venue for a game. Holds around 10,000 with no bad seats

Grew up in Mobile and my grandfather sold advertising for wkrg radio, the jags station long ago (no clue who is doing it now). So, we went to all the games. The year they beat Ala was so brutal. I worshipped Ala basketball moreso than I do now as an old man and those tourney losses crushed me as a teenager. It was worse because it made so many people in my family so happy.
That old sun belt hoops conference was legit (usa, uab, vcu, old dom, w ken, s fla, jax, charlotte).

frontcourt trio of Charles Bediako, Noah Clowney, and Brandon Miller is already affecting plenty of shot attempts.
You might add Nick Pringle in there. He has been really good off the bench.

yea I get that but at some point, maybe it just shouldn't be on tv? Sort of absurd to ask fans to show up at 9pm imo.
That's why I could only get teenagers who wanted to go. Otherwise, I'd have a pretty big group tonight.

Crap! Every time an SEC School loses an out of conference game it hurts the whole conference's tournament seeding.

Tonight should be a good test. We're still going to have a size advantage over USA, but unlike our first two opponents, they've got a veteran (25 years old!) 7-footer to protect the rim. Kevin Samuel was a top 100 recruit (#82 per ESPN) in his class, started 3 years at TCU after redshirting, transferred to FGCU last year, and is now in his final season of eligibility due to COVID at USA. Would be nice to get him in foul trouble early.

Tonight's game marks the 1st time UA has played a true road game against an in-state mid-major since December 7, 2004 when UA defeated ASU 72-54 in Montgomery.
It is only the 2nd time in the modern era that UA has played a true road game against a D1 in-state mid-major.

I'd like to see a recurring or semi-recurring series with UAB. The sport is dominated my metrics now, and UAB is generally always a quality team. 20 years ago there would be no upside because rankings were mostly perception-based, but that's changed a lot in recent years. If you alternated location, you'd have a likely quad 2 home game or quad 1 away game each year.

I went to that game. Rob Spivery was their coach then he was pals with Gottfried's dad so I imagine that played a part in the road game.

I remember last year they had a few veteran guards. I expect this to be a tough game but hopefully our defense will overwhelm them.
