The concept has been around for a good while. I'd actually see it as something that these college coaches have pulled out of high schools and smaller colleges. It's essentially a 4 out to 5 out offense predicated on proper spacing. When using a big man, he will typically play more of a high post position for you. I've used a similar style but try to generate more offense from defensive pressure for a few reasons. We don't always have the inside scoring we'd like plus the pace we want to play at lends itself to quicker players who are better ball handlers. Without a shot clock in high school, we like to force the opponent into shots or turnovers to limit our time on defense each possession as well.
One thing about this offense is that people get hung up on needing a lot of excellent shooters to make it work. Of course it helps but the key is having good ball handlers that can pass and finish in the lane with some outside shooting mixed in to open the lane. If you run it right, you should have a lot of lays ups and free throws.
Now, if you want to say, are high schools running an offense where the majority of their shots are three pointers, that's probably different.

Are local high schools copying this Bama offense? Just wondering.

Looks like Cal to Texas may have some legs.

There is less incentive to for most of high school basketball. I believe they were just allowed to use a 35-second shot clock this season, but they are not required to which likely means that won't start being a normal thing for a while. Part of the up-tempo, analytical offense is to ensure that you're getting a good analytical shot instead of a heave to beat the shot clock. When teams are allowed to infinitely swing the ball until something opens up and the 3pt success rate is significantly worse, it changes the analytics at that level of play. Why force an open three when even your best 3pt shooter shoots below 33% and you can simply take your time and eventually find an open cutter or driving lane.

Wasn't worried about Texas, but UK scares me a bit.
I think Oats would definitely be on their radar considering the exciting style of play and recent success. My hope would be Scott Drew, Mark Few, Brad Stevens or one of the other big names jump at the opportunity, so we don't have to sweat it. I'd think Scott Drew would be the most likely big name for UK to get.

Kentucky should be able to get any college coach they want with the exception of Bill Self. Maybe they'd consider Oats if he wins a NC this year or comes close but I think they’d want to go with someone else. Hell they may could get Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan. Oats would kill it there but he is probably pretty far down on their list.

I don't think he'd be that far down the list to be honest. They'll obviously swing for some big names like a Scott Drew, Tony Bennett, Brad Stevens, Mark Few type of hire, but he is in that next tier of prospective coaches.
UK fans have been belly-aching for some type of system for a while now and Oats has more of an identifiable offensive system than just about any coach in basketball including the guys listed above.

And they'd have to contact Donovan, even if you get turned down thats a call they have to make. So him plus the names you listed would put Oats at 6th on their list at best, which is pretty far down imo. One of those guys in the top 6 would no doubt take the job if offered.

I don't think it's as easy to pull away successful coaches to go to the likes of UK as it once was. It's one thing if they're coaching at a small school where they aren't able to compete on the national stage. It's another thing if they're at a school where they can recruit and get into the tournament every year. The blue bloods offer a few advantages, but they also come with a high probability of getting fired in a few years. I'm not saying Oats wouldn't go, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion.

NVM made a suggestion about who Kentucky might hire but don't care to get into a debate about Kentuckys possible potential coaching search.
As long as they dont hire Oats, which I dont think they would, I dont care who theyd hire.

That's not directed at Byrne but it was very smart on Coach Oats part though.
Byrne wants a NEW ARENA as well there's no doubt about it.
I'm sure there was some BIG BOOSTERS (Football Boosters as well) at the game versus Kentucky and they most likely enjoyed our style of play so I think Coach Oats using that as leverage along with being ranked in the top 5 as well too get a NEW ARENA.
What Coach also did was put a TARGET on him & his team back because now they got a go out and be CONSISTENT winning meaning don't get BEAT by Arkansas or LSU period.
I felt like Coach Oats would of done this after the Gonzaga game if we would of WON. It's a very smart tactic because a lot of folks are watching you beat these teams on National TV.
If Bama beats Arkansas Wednesday then Byrne will have FOLKS lined up to get that NEW ARENA built ASAP just watch.
Just my opinion...

For the second straight week and fourth time this season, Alabama's freshman Brandon Miller has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Crimson Tide have now won SEC Freshman of the Week six of the 10 weeks this season.
The 6-9 freshman from Antioch, Tenn. averaged 18 points and 6.0 rebounds in Alabama's wins over Ole Miss and Kentucky. Miller led the Tide in scoring in both games, scoring 17 points against the Rebels and 19 points vs. the Wildcats. Miller joins James Robinson as the only Alabama players to win four SEC weekly awards in the same season.
Brandon Miller Notes
*Fourth career SEC Freshman of the Week honor
*Ranks No. 1 in the SEC in points per game (19.1) and No. 34 in the nation
*Miller is the only freshman in the country to rank in the top 70 in points per game (No. 34) and rebounds per game (No. 66)
*Miller is one of seven players in Division I, the only player in the SEC and the only freshman in the country that has scored 280 points and recorded 125 rebounds this season

If Stevens wants back into coaching he will just make it known towards the end of the NBA season and prompt a bidding war among the owners of teams in need of a coach.
Drew, Bennett, and Few all sit on ice thrones in an air conditioned room at the South Pole. You cannot be further from the hot seat. If they took the Kentucky job they'd be there with a Sweet 16 exit in year 1.
It's obviously still a premier job, but I question whether they are going to be able to run Cal off and then go hire someone who is well paid at a job where the fanbase thinks he walks on water.

Definitely wouldnt be a good look for Kentucky running Cal off a couple of years after acting like he has the safest job in the country and giving him a “lifetime contract”.
Its mostly their fans that are insane, and Oats hit it on the head that some of our football fans are just as spoiled and insane. It kind of spills over into our bball fandom too, hell some dumbass Alabama fans wanted Oats fired not long ago.
