Bama doesn't have the defense to match up with anybody that is NCAAT caliber. If Bama matches up with a team that can guard the perimeter and has a semi pulse on offense they will get beat down.
I would say that is part of it...additionally, we are incredibly weak defensively on the perimeter so if a team has multiple scorers at guard/wing then we're usually in deep shite. Florida and Kentucky spanking our asses 3 times in the last 3-4 weeks is proof of that...they're not really good defensive teams, they just cook our guards.

except for beating 5 or 6 tourney teams.

On the positive side Bama will benefit from time off. Time to get healthy and time to get some rest. The defense won't be fixed completely, but having everyone back at 100% will make a huge difference (I assume that's the case, I may be wrong).
Bama should probably make the sweet 16. That's my guess. The next most likely outcome is a second round loss and then I'd say an elite 8 berth.

We have a simple path: offense gets hot and they cut through their bracket like a flamethrower.
If the offense doesn't find its efficiency from early February then Alabama has to rely on the defense more than they are able to with this mix of players.
There is a certain zen in knowing it is simple as that...

This kinda sucks. I promised my grandmother that I'd take her to an event this week, and it's either on Friday at 730 pm or Sunday at 230 pm. We start Friday at 630, so I'd definitely miss the evening. But Sunday from 230-430ish, and I'll probably end up missing the damn 2nd round game.
I'm torn, since I've watched every game this season, and I'm about to miss a fricking tournament game. But i made a promise, so I'm screwed. I'll probably miss the Friday game, since I think we'll win it. And if we don't win it, I won't want to rewatch that awfulness.

quote:Statistically we're actually solid at defending the perimeter. Our problem is guards that can score on multiple levels (like Kentucky's and Florida's) because we have no rim protection. That's why we're terrible at 2pt% defense and FT rate defense; guys can get downhill on us and there's nothing we can do but foul them. If we still had Bediako we would be legit FF contenders.

I really really like Bama's draw for the first two rounds. It seems like the kind of teams you guys have feasted on all season. After that -- who knows?

If the defense that showed up against UT a couple of weeks ago shows up in the tourney, and the offense plays up to even 70% of their usual ability, I think Bama will surprise a lot of doubters.
Will they though? That's another story.

Decent chance we don’t play until 4:30 or later on Sunday.

Don’t give up yet. Tip off times haven’t been released as far as I know. Maybe you’ll get lucky on at least one of the games.

I think it is about as good as we could hope for...assuming we don't have a cold night, you assume we just out gun Charleston in a shootout. May take some years off our lives though. Alabama may be able to heat up SMC and get them out of their game...especially if we could generate some foul trouble on their big man.

I agree, Bama could not have really gotten a better draw on our side of the bracket. If we play up to our ability on offense and play decent to good defense there is a real possibility of Sweet 16.

One interesting note on Charleston. They were better last year than this year, only losing 3 games in the regular season. One of those was to Hofstra, where Aaron Estrada went for 25 points on 5/9 from 3.

St. Mary's scares me a little bit...but I wish we had last year's team with this draw...which is crazy considering we were the overall #1 seed last year.
And I hate to say it, but I think auburn could make a real run. If they get UConn... I'm almost tempted to go against the grain there.

Gonna be hard to beat that UConn team. Hurley is a cocksucker but he's a great coach and has it rolling.
