Looks like we may be losing Claunch. We’re going to have to get used to Oats’ coaching tree getting bigger every year. I’m not overly excited about losing assistants every year though.

People need to realize losing happens in Bball. A MSU team we thumped twice, handled UT easily. Basketball is about matchups .

Hell, Iowa St just beat #1 Houston by fricking 28 points. ISU is a good team, but they aren't 28 points better than Houston. Purdue lost to unranked Wisconsin who went on a worse skid than we did to end year. shite happens in CBB.

Claunch must just be ready to be head coach again. Have to imagine when he took the assistant gig, he was aiming a little higher than UTSA

We need a defensive specialist to be his replacement.

Oats and Pannone can be the offensive guys.

Preston can be the Hodgson role of recruiter and vibes guy

That last spot needs to be a defensive guy

I want no part of McNeese. Think we would roll Samford though.

My thought as well. Guess if he wants to be in Texas (think he has roots there) and be a head coach, that’s not a bad place to be. Still probably doubled his salary from when he was at Nicholls

That's a pretty massive upgrade for one year of his time. Plus, he'll always be able to have an excellent reference and be considered a part of a highly respected coach's coaching tree, which is what he came for anyways. I actually said when we hired him, that I wouldn't expect him to be here long for that reason.

In basketball, assistants don't really land good jobs, and a part of that is that there are so many more D-1 positions to be had than there are in football. Easy to find someone with some good experience and a track record of success as the head guy.

This is a good thing though. Claunch and Pannone both had reps as great offensive minds with very reserved personalities, and neither figured out how to fix the defensive side of the ball this year (a lot of that is also the personnel they were working with). Would love to find a defensive motivator for next year. With the way Oats is pumping out head coaches, we have to be a pretty attractive destination for a good defensive guy looking for an upgrade.

Poor Indiana St. just had to watch NC State, Oregon, Temple, and whoever beat Dayton knock them out of the Tourney. Most bid thieves I can remember in a long time

Sad part is I think their are actually decent teams on the bubble this year getting their bid stolen as opposed to the bubble being very soft the last 5 or 6 years.

I’m sure Saddi Washington’s name will get thrown around again especially with the coaching change at Michigan.

You can expect calls for tourney expansion to grow, especially with teams like Pitino and St. John’s and Izzo and Michigan St. right on the cut line

I wonder if we would try to go after Jerry Stackhouse?

Just a thought.

When this was first mentioned a few days ago, I kind of thought, no chance Stackhouse is going to be interested in that. But.... Alabama has been a fast track for assistant coaches to get HC jobs so it might be worth a call. Still think Stackhouse can probably land a decent low level mid major HC job right now without doing anything.

He is a failed HC which is why he was fired. Bama has been a good place to hire assistants to become a HC who have not been one before. I am not a fan.

I mentioned this as a joke mostly. Don't think he'd take it for the exact reason you brought up. He'd kind of be another weird fit as he's once again more of an offensive guy, but if he was for some reason interested, I don't think Oats could say no though. Would do too much from a recruiting and offensive standpoint that you'd just have to hope that personnel changes is what fixes the defense.

Sarkisian and Kiffin both failed as a HC before taking a position here, and they are the two best offensive coordinators that we have ever had (not to mention they're now very successful HCs). Again, it's not happening, but we'd be extremely fortunate to have Stackhouse as an assistant.

Like Bryant mentioned, Saddi Washington is probably the most realistic candidate.
