Don’t know enough to make an informed opinion about matchups, but I don’t think we want any part of this as we’d have nothing to gain. Imagine the entertainment of Oats vs tPear though.

As a lifelong mcneese fan, I would be excited to play bama.

I wouldn't be shocked if Oats bolts to Michigan after this crew gets embarrassed one last time in the tourney. These frickers are awful.

Why would he take a step down?

Lol. Don't think 8 final fours and a Natty is a step down.

in the NIL and transfer portal era, it's a worse job....by a LOT.

UM on the academic side puts a ton of restrictions on kids transferring in, and they don't have a great NiL setup. But the portal is the bigger deal. You cannot compete in modern CBB if you can't recruit the portal.

Haven't given up on this season, but to cheer myself up on how bad we've been defensively this year, I've been looking to the future to see how that might change...

PG - Sears
SG - Griffen
SF - Reid
PF - Nelson
C - Sherrell

6 - Wrightsell
7 - Stevenson
8 - Walters
9 - Dioubate
10 - Cunningham

Possible Transfers: Pringle, Cosby, Parker, Wague

Immediate thoughts: a lot more length in this group. Hopefully, that will help with the defense, along with having an actual rim protector in Sherrell. We'll obviously need another PG (hoping we can get Nolan Traore) and I'd also love to add a big body for situational usage.

Obviously a lot can change with whether these guys use their COVID year and/or other less expected transfers. It's unlikely the offense will be any better, but I certainly see us being a lot better defensively.

What are y'all's thoughts on next year? Any guesses to who stays, who goes, or any transfers we might go after?

What a dumb post. Oats not playing zone is the reason we are getting embarrassed man.

He even knows it because at halftime of the Georgia-Florida game he stated clearly that the zone works and joked about how he should play it.

Golden was asked in an interview after the game and he laughed saying he knew Oats wouldn't play zone so he doesn't have to worry.

At some point you have to adjust your team to play them to their best instead of trying to continually force a round peg into a square hole.

Reid should play in SF in the future, but is currently closer to PF. If he shows much improvement in his ball handling this offseason, he could play at SF starting his freshman season.
I think Sherrell will be a good rim protector in the future, but I think the portal needs to bring in an experienced rim protector. This is because although Sherrell can shoot the perimeter, he is more unstable defensively than other rim protectors.

The one with the most potential for development this offseason is Stevenson. I think next season is his real season.
If he hadn't reclassified and stayed in high school, he would have continued to be well-respected and not as underrated as he is now. I think he will be a Starter next season.

I would be very surprised if Nelson stayed in college for one more year. This is because even if he stays in college for one more year, the probability that he, a fifth-year player, will be selected in the NBA draft is not high. Rather, you can target two-way contracts or overseas markets. Because he is a very unique big man, overseas markets will pay him a huge amount of annual salary.

Oats wouldn't play zone

It’s not just zone, you can basically accomplish the same thing by sagging off the ball and playing help defense rotations. Zones give up wide open 3s, so does our help defense.

It’s the ball pressure that lets guys get by us that is the biggest issue. That can happen in zone coverage as well and just breaks down the zone. JQ was actually pretty good at breaking the zone doing that. The biggest thing is that it can give a slightly different look for a possession or two and try to stop a run or slow down the momentum. He should have it in the arsenal for those limited occasions when needed, but it wasn’t going to help this team much against FL. It would against a bad shooting team.

I don’t remember thinking you were an alter, but I could be wrong. Did this team do something to you wife or kids?

I agree, Francis. Pipe down. It's not just zone defense though. They can't shoot the ball beyond 5ft from the basket when someone is in their face.

He JUST signed a contract extension that will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the country. Yet you wouldn't be surprised if he bolts to Michigan. You're either incredibly dumb, clueless that he signed the contract, or a troll.

Of course I know and yet the product on the court is fricking garbage. Let's give him a raise...

Garbage? Maybe compared to the standard Oats has set since arriving here, which certainly WAS NOT the standard by any measure before he was hired. Maybe you're forgetting the state of this program before Oats came along. He's made Bama a tournament team nearly every season he's been here.

Either get off Nate's back, or off the ledge. Preferably both.
