These next two home games are gonna be tough. Need a good crowd. Good time for a week off; our defense needs some work.
On the plus side, our four guard lineup may work well against A&M so we can switch and still keep those two dudes in front of us.

Ummm…no….heck no.
AU will win that game, but we never, ever root for AU unless it is a guarantee that Bama must have it happen. USCe has several difficult road games still left, and they are due for a bit of a slump (think UT gets them at USC and will be looking for revenge on that one). We recruit against AU in Bball, not a whole lot against USCe.
Bball is clearly a game of matchups. We don’t matchup well with teams like UT and AU, where as A&M and FL have the horses to make that a rock fight. We matchup pretty well against USCe because they are undersized like us. Our offense is unbelievable, but we have to hope for favorable matchups and tight whistles in the NCAAT. We’re not built for rock fights. SDSU’s team last year would beat this team by 15 if the refs called the same game.
All that said, I love this team and love our coach! The fact that we are in 1st place and own the tie breaker is unbelievable given the turnover we had. It’s a long season and I’m hoping the defense is just in a bit of a mid season lull, but peaks in March when we need it. It’s a good time for our bye week to hit this week.

Looks like we have some possession of 1st place again

We are the current 1-seed in the SEC Tournament, but we'd share the regular season title since they don't take into account head-to-heads

5th. And Oats has won the SEC the other two times we've been picked 5th

We have three starters shooting 40% from 3, and they all attempt at least 4.6 3s per game.
Sears: 44% on 5.1 attempts
Wrightsell: 42% on 4.8 attempts
Griffen: 40% on 4.6 attempts
In a random comparison, the 2010-2011 team (which was a relatively fun team) only had two guys attempt more than two 3s per game:
Charvez Davis: 34% on 5.5 attempts
Tony Mitchell: 31% on 2.6 attempts
Sears: 44% on 5.1 attempts
Wrightsell: 42% on 4.8 attempts
Griffen: 40% on 4.6 attempts

"We" root for whomever we want. You're welcome to do like so many others and be happier to see Auburn lose than you are Alabama succeed, but I'm not that consumed with hatred. In fact, if Alabama doesn't have a vested interest there are multiple teams I'd support Auburn to beat (Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas for example).

Alabama and Auburn have more difficult schedules, and being "due for a slump" is simply saying you're hoping they're not as good as their record. We're 10 games into the conferece schedule now. It's way past time to take teams at face value. If that's not enough, beating the crap out of Kentucky and beating Tennessee in Knoxville should be.

Really? Have you looked at the roster lately? Alabama has ONE player from in state - Mark Sears - and he came via the portal. There are none from Georgia, Mississippi, or Tennessee and only one from Florida. On the other hand, Pringle is from South Carolina and Stevenson is from North Carolina.
Meanwhile, Auburn has 6 in-state players and an additional 6 from the states that border Alabama. They list 17 players to Bama's 15 so percentage wise, 13% of Alabama's players come from the traditional recruiting footprint compared to Auburn's 71%.
That leaves only two possible conclusions. Option 1 is that if we truly "recruit against Auburn" so much, I guess we need to fire Oats because Pearl is kicking his arse. Option 2 is that Oats has put Alabama basketball in a place similar to football where now he recruits nationally and Auburn isn't any more of a recruiting rival than any other program going after a player he wants. I'll let you decide which is the case.
TL;DNR - do what you want. I'll be pulling for the team whose victory would return Alabama to sole possession of first place and give us a cushion for the stretch run.

They picked Tennessee to win it, but after that they're looking like idiots.
They had Alabama 5th, Auburn 6th, and South Carolina 14th.
Other than the Vols, they predicted the contenders to be aTm, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

Why can't I find today's Joseph Goodman article on I Should Have Never Doubted Pearl?
doesn't read quite the same this morning does it?
Pearl doesn’t get enough credit. He really doesn’t? good call Goodman.

My first mistake with Auburn this season is that I never should have doubted Pearl, Auburn’s future Hall of Fame coach who continues to unlock new ways to win games for the Tigers. In the past, Auburn has won with its guards and with dynamic wings. This year’s team is different. Auburn features some quality on the edges, yes, but Auburn big man Johni Broome is the heart and soul of a team unlike any we’ve seen on the Plains.
quote:
I write it every year, but I’ll repeat it again here. I cannot put down in words enough flowery, effusive, gushingly positive things about how Pearl develops quality players with big hearts into elite-level talents during their college careers. As long as there are coaches like Pearl in the college game, then there will be a place for determined basketball players to develop their skills for the NBA.

You seem mad. My bad, wasn’t trying to make you mad, and of course you are welcome to your opinion and to root for whoever you want. That said…
This smells of someone who was either raised in a house divided, wasn’t raised in AL, or never actually attended the University.
Basketball is a game of momentum. Lots of teams have winning and losing streaks. Is OSU actually 14 points better than AL on a neutral court? No, but they were hot and on a winning streak. Now, they are pretty bad. USCe had an easy non-conference schedule and have gotten on a streak for a few games in a row against good conference opponents. They also lost to us by 27, lost to UGA at home, barely beat Missouri twice (once in OT), have played one of the easiest conference schedules to date, and are ranked 44th in the metrics despite a 21-3 record for a reason. AL and USCe aren’t on the same level, despite what you think the records say this far into the conference season. They will lose at least 3 of the next 7, and I’ll come back and eat crow if they don’t.
Oats went portal heavy this past round because he wanted to have a veteran team after being “too young” on our last team to go deep in the NCAAT. We’ve gone from 2 freshman starters to none. Despite your statistics on the current rosters, it doesn’t change the fact that over the past many years (even prior to Oats), we have competed with AU for recruits significantly more often than we have competed with USCe. It is almost always better for Bama if AU is in a down swing. I also root for KY Bball to be just good enough to not fire Cal, but continue to be down compared to their historical performance. Doesn’t mean I hate them, it’s just better for Bama. I’m not overly worried about USCe at this point, despite their coach clearly being good and they have some momentum as a team. Guess we just disagree on this one.

I have noticed that when it comes to basketball, AL.com has an affinity for Auburn. Countless times following game days where Alabama and Auburn both played, the AU stories will be front page on the website and Alabama stories will be buried in the links of the dropdown menu until you get to the Alabama basketball link.

Wrightsell has been one of the most pleasant surprises in Alabama basketball that I can remember. I personally am happy with Estrada as well, but I kind of thought Estrada would be our best guard coming into the season (he's not, but I like the fact that he does a lot of things to help the team win) so not really surprised there.
Wrightsell on the other hand I thought would just be a role player. But he continues to be arguably the hardest guy to keep off the floor other than Sears.

According to @SECNetwork, Alabama is 2nd in SEC history with seven 100 point games in a single season after winning 109-92 at LSU today.
The Crimson Tide only trail the ‘95-‘96 Kentucky Wildcats who scored 100 points nine times in a season.

The No. 16/16 Alabama men's basketball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon at LSU, defeating the Tigers 109-92 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. With the win, the Crimson Tide (17-7, 9-2 SEC) completes a season sweep of the Tigers, scoring a combined 218 points in the two victories (won 109-88 on Jan. 27).
Saturday's contest featured 17 lead changes and six ties, with 15 lead changes and all six ties coming in the opening 20 minutes. LSU (12-11, 4-6 SEC) trailed by double digits early in the second half but clawed its way back to take a 73-72 lead at the 9:32 mark. Alabama responded by going on a 26-9 run over the next 5:29 to take control of the game at 98-82. The Tide would go on to score 60 points after intermission to take the 17-point win.
Five Tide players reached double digits led by Mark Sears, who finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., who added 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Nick Pringle (17), Rylan Griffin (16) and Aaron Estrada (15) also reached double figures.
Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"This was a big road win and that we needed to get it if we are trying to stay in the hunt and win the league. LSU came ready to go and we had no answer for (Will) Baker in the first half. Then they made their run to take the lead in the second half and we were able to open up a barrage of three's. We were only able to force 12 turnovers, but we scored on most of them. I thought the job that Nick Pringle did in the second half was really good on Baker. We ended up outrebounding them by 12, which we knew we needed to do playing a small lineup. Latrell (Wrightsell Jr.) had a double-double for the first time this year and he played great. He shot six-of-nine from three and we keep trying to tell him he can't turn down open threes because he shoots it way too well to turn them down. I still think he might've turned some open ones down tonight, but he was great, with 10 rebounds. I thought Sears played a great game, he ended up with five assists on only two turnovers, Rylan had six assists and zero turnovers, Latrell had four assists and zero turnovers and Estrada seven assists and one turnover and when you add that up its 22 assists to only three turnovers. That is pretty impressive from those four guards that started. We've been on these guys about rebounding, turnovers and defensive intensity. We've got to get our front court a little bit better, I thought our backcourt was pretty good on everything we've been on them about. It's big to get a win, we haven't played great on the road, and they have played great at home. So, to kind of blow this thing open at the end was big on number fronts."

Only a handful of chances remain to support the team in person. Here’s your chance! I guess the Hog fans aren’t traveling for this one
