We're a Bediako away from being a real contender. As it is, it's a fun rebuilding year.

Winning on the road in the SEC is hard, it's even harder against good teams.

Bama has lost 2 road games in the SEC to 2 title contenders. Margin of defeat doesn't look good, but it happens. Bama already beat Auburn at home as well as South Carolina. If Bama can beat UT at home there's a very good shot to win yet another SEC regular season title.

Oh, I do think we could still win the SEC because there is no team that's just that much better than Bama.

Bediako made a huge mistake going pro and he and Alabama are both worse off for it.

That's not really true. He signed a 2 way deal, so he's probably making at least $200k, probably more. And with international player NIL being fricked up (Canada is technically international), hev probably decided it wasn't worth it. Plus he's with the Spurs, who are very good at developing young talent.

We are definitely worse off without him. But it's not like a Kennedy Winston situation. I hate it, and it screwed our team's potential tremendously. But Bediako hasn't ruined it derailed his potential career by leaving by early.

Maybe those pre-season practice reports got my expectations too high.

I mean, he's a freshman shooting 44ish% from 3 on a high volume. I heard he was raw and but could shoot the lights out of the gym. Sounds pretty accurate still. I just knew a kid who grew up in a retirement community was gonna have a few growing pains.

I usually expect zero production from a #100ish freshman. But 8 wanna see flashes of potential. See what the coaches saw when they ordered him a scholarship. Anything else is lagniappe. You'll see an occasional Clowney. But that's the outlier, not the norm.

I agree.
Bediako's only problem this season was injuries.

Not sure why Nate had him in there so much other than he knew the way the game was playing out foul wise and thought he had to gamble some with his bench.

Pringle sucking so much arse is probably a big reason. Nelson has had to step up and play the 5 on D. Which shifts minutes to other guys.

He's probably making zero right now, unless there was an injury settlement:

After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, Bediako joined the San Antonio Spurs for the 2023 NBA Summer League[8] and on October 2, 2023, he signed with them.[9] On October 23, his deal was converted into a two-way contract.[10] On December 29, he was waived by the Spurs after suffering a torn meniscus.[11] He didn't play for San Antonio, but made 11 appearances with the Austin Spurs, averaging 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds in 19.0 minutes.[11]

And probably not getting the rehab care that he'd be getting at Alabama had he stayed and tore his meniscus.

Which could've still happened here. Then we would be even more screwed since we probably don't land Wague with Bediako on the roster.

The spurs waived Bediako? Did anyone know that? LINK

That seems really weird after such a short period of time, his stats aren't that bad.

Bediako's G League stats:

why has he only played 11 games? (eta Tore his meniscus in December, not a terrible injury at least).

minutes: 19
pts: 7.7
fg% - 58.2%
Ft% - 44%
reb - 6.9
TO - 1.4
blocks - .6

Chase Goodbread with an all time bad take: LINK

Open letter to Alabama coach Nate Oats:
Time to recruit the one kind of player you don't have.
The kind who doesn't fit your system.
The kind you needed in a blowout loss at Auburn
A mean, nasty, wide-bodied, glass-eating old-school power forward.

1. That would cause Oats' entire system to break down, as it requires 4 of the 5 guys on the court to be a threat from the arc.

2. The team that beat us down doesn't have anyone like that.

3. The missing element is clearly Charles Bediako, not a relic from the 80s.

Yeah, looks like an all time bonehead decision by Chuck. I get that he couldnt get a big NIL payday but he still screwed himself over.

Its Kennedy Winston 2.0

Would like to see more Dioubate and Stevenson. If Griffen and Wrightsell keep improving, this team could look a lot different come tournament time.

Pringle should have maybe stayed in Tuscaloosa. He was a momentum black hole last night. Yikes.

Right, sans-Chuck, what little physical presence we had (Pringle) clearly needed to make strides in the off-season and didn't.

Going back to SOG's comment, it really started getting out of control when both Pringle and Walters came back out after that last media timeout in the 1H.

Not sure if that was just Oats gambling or related to something we're not privy to (like maybe some other guys being banged up), but the resulting +14 run they went on in the final 3:30 on the half was brutal.
