The player to watch this season
Freshman forward Jarin Stevenson could be a difference maker. One source said he's the best NBA prospect on the team.
Many have compared Stevenson to Noah Clowney, a freshman who turned a big year with Alabama into becoming the No. 21 pick in the NBA Draft. One program source said the Clowney-Stevenson comparison is "freakishly good." Word is, Stevenson could be better than Clowney offensively.
Stevenson has plenty of upside, but he will still have plenty to learn, too. Remember, he reclassified, so he's supposed to be a senior in high school. If he can realize his potential, he has a chance to put together a special season. Don't be surprised if Stevenson ends up the best player on the team by March. He has that high of a ceiling. It's just up to him if he reaches it.

Guard Aaron Estrada going to make quick impact
Estrada brought plenty of hype with him, too, transferring from Hofstra. A season ago, he averaged 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists with 1.5 steals. It sounds like he's lived up to it.
"As advertised," one source said of Estrada, who also defends well. Estrada went 7-for-16 with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal vs. TCU in the scrimmage with 19 points.
It sounds like Estrada, Sears and Nelson are at the front of the line to be the three main pillars of this team's success early.

Guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. a name to watch as a defender
The Cal State Fullerton transfer figures to work his way into the third guard spot behind Sears and Estrada.
Wrightsell has been banged up at times in the offseason, but he has impressed sources when he has been available. One said Wrightsell has been better than anticipated and a "bulldog-like defender." Another source expects Wrightsell to play a lot because of the value he brings as a veteran defender.

Incomplete grade for the bigs
Forward Nick Pringle is one of the few returners on the roster, and it sounds like he's made some improvements. He is expected to play some at the No. 5 spot (traditionally, a center). But Mohamed Wague, the West Virginia transfer, also figures to be valuable there. One source said Alabama has missed having Wague's presence in the front court; he's been dealing with an injury but figures to be back in time for the season.

So Wague is not expected to start?

Wague is a bench big. He will play 10-12 mins a game IMO

Luckily Arky doesn't often have to worry about it.
Look at my posts during the sect. If you are a shoe in for the ncaat, theres no need to play in the sect. Theres too much risk.
Selection committee has admitted in the past the performance in the conference tourny has no bearing on seeding.
Theres no need to play 3-5 games in a 7 days stretch.

Pretty much just bragging rights. But what are you gonna do, lose intentionally? Of course not.

Miller having a good 4th quarter after struggling a bit earlier. Scored 8 points in less than 2 minutes.

Keon is on the Kings roster now? Hasn’t gotten any minutes but he is on the bench. Good for him.
Edit: Looks like he is on a two-way

Read an article today about how teams are playing bigger schools in exhibitions instead of the secret scrimmages.
If you lose, it doesn't count.

Jack Kubiszyn, who wore No. 11 for the Crimson Tide, played on the 1956 “Rocket Eight” team in his first season with @AlabamaMBB. Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., Kubiszyn earned a scholarship offer from Alabama basketball coach Johnny Dee sight unseen. The 5-foot-11 shooting guard played two more seasons, earning All-American honors in 1958. In his second playing year of 1957, he averaged a single-season school record 24.6 points during an era with no 3-point line or shot clock under new Alabama head coach Eugene Lambert. Kubiszyn became a two-sport star at The Capstone and played two seasons of Major League Baseball with the Cleveland Indians in 1961 and 1962. After leaving baseball, he returned to Tuscaloosa, became a local businessman and served on the Tuscaloosa City Council in the 1990s. So Jack Kubiszyn is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in 11 days.

11 former Top-150 basketball recruits who are poised for breakout sophomore seasons
RYLAN GRIFFEN, G, ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
High school ranking: No. 43
2022-23 stats: 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.
Why he’ll make a jump: While his freshman season at Alabama was a bit of a roller coaster, there is no denying the talent and upside that Rylan Griffen has as he prepares for his sophomore season. At 6-foot-6 with electric athleticism, he has all of the physical characteristics that one could want in a high-level wing player and with a year under his belt in Tuscaloosa, we are betting that we see a much more consistent player in year two.
Nate Oats and the Tide are certainly hoping so. Even though they loaded up on some perimeter help in the portal, Griffen remains one of just returnees who averaged over 15 minutes per game last season (the other is guard Mark Sears) and that experience should count for a lot.
After shooting just 36.5% from the field during his first season, word is that Griffen should be much more comfortable as a jump shooter this season. If he improves a little bit there and continues to develop his handle, we are talking about a guy who has all of the tools to develop into one of the most explosive wing scorers in all of the SEC.
