Luckily Arky doesn't often have to worry about it.

Leon Douglas became the literal “center” piece for the dominant run @AlabamaMBB had in the mid-70s. The 6-foot-10 center from Leighton played for Colbert County High School, before becoming one of head coach C.M. Newton’s prized recruits. He ranks third all-time in scoring (1,909) and second in rebounding (1,279) at Alabama. Behind the talents of Douglas, the Crimson Tide three-peated as SEC regular-season champions in 1974, 1975 and 1976, becoming the only team besides Kentucky with that distinction. During his senior season, Douglas averaged 20.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. In a 74-69 Sweet Sixteen loss to the unbeaten and eventual-champion Indiana Hoosiers, Douglas scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two blocks. Later in 1976, the Detroit Pistons selected him fourth overall in the NBA Draft. In a fun pop-culture note, Douglas received a film credit for being in the cult classic movie “The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.” So Leon Douglas is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in 13 days.

Our HOME Christmas break games always suck. Would be my only chance to catch a regular season game but of course no one wants to watch EKU

I had no idea the secret scrimmage was held at Samford. My son is a freshman down there and he's pretty tuned into whats going on at Samfords campus and he had no idea either.

Nelson was one of the top transfers in the portal and the former North Dakota State forward is expected to fill Brandon Miller’s production.

Sam Walters AKA Lefty Larry!!

ha well it was great to see he was scoring like that. based on that short clip it seems he had a few nice finishes through contact as well. the physicality adjustment was mine and im sure many others biggest concern for him coming in. needs to bring it consistently ofcourse but it is good to see that sams got some real savage in him already.
the versatility on this team really could be insane, perhaps even the most insane yet under oats. needless to say i cant wait to see. roll tide roll

John Francis Dee, Jr., became the 12th head basketball coach at The University of Alabama in 1952. In his four seasons leading the @AlabamaMBB program, Johnny Dee built a powerhouse that culminated with his legendary “Rocket Eight” team. Led by Jerry Harper and George Linn, the “Rocket Eight” won the SEC regular-season championship in 1956 with a perfect 14-0 conference record. The team finished 21-3 overall and with a No. 5 ranking in the final AP poll. However, due to all five starters having played as freshmen, they were ruled ineligible to participate in the 1956 NCAA Tournament. The devastating decision prevented Dee from leading what many consider to be Alabama’s greatest basketball team from competing for a national championship. Dee finished his four-year career with a 68-25 record and has the second-highest winning percentage of .731 at Alabama. So the 12th head coach is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in 12 days.

What we're hearing on forward Grant Nelson
There might not be a more anticipated addition than Nelson. At 6-foot-11, 230 pounds, he has the ability to make plays he shouldn't be able to make at that size. That much is clear from his tape at North Dakota State.

The question is how it will translate to this level in the Alabama system.
It sounds like he struggled some in the first half of the closed scrimmage vs. TCU. The Horned Frogs were focusing their defense on him, though. Then he was "way better" in the second half vs. TCU after adjusting, per one source who was at the scrimmage. Nelson finished with 13 points, 9 boards and 2 blocks over 36:20 of play.

Maybe that first half was the only adjustment Nelson needed. Or perhaps he could require a few games. If he isn't dominant right away, don't panic. He just might need a few games. Patience could be required. Or heck, Nelson could play at an elite level right away. His performance will be worth monitoring throughout the season.

Surprise from Sam Walters
If you're surprised the freshman put up a team-high 29 points in the scrimmage vs. TCU, you wouldn't be the only one. Walters surprised some in the program, too, with that performance.

He still has some room to grow defensively, but offensively, he shined as he hit seven of Alabama's eight 3-pointers. Sources said TCU's defensive focus on stopping Nelson opened up opportunities for Walters, and he took advantage.
