As others have noted the Western Kentucky game proves my point. I have a little more insight into OL because I played it in high school. Yes. high school is kiddie stuff compared to the SEC but there are certain realities common to every level. Mainly that it's way harder than people realize both mentally and physically. Each play has a pattern and what you are supposed to do can change pre and post snap. Secondly the defenders are mostly just reacting and being wild and athletic. an OL on pass blocking has to stay between them and the QB BUT they can't get sucked out of the pattern because if they do they open a lane straight to the QB. It's also got to be coordinated perfectly with the other 4 guys.

The one joy of course is "joyless murder ball". When the situation arises where you're just going to run it and you don't care. That's when you can turn it around and let your power take over. This line looks like they can do that well when we get the chance.

I do believe in the golden rule however. my coach Alan Pridmore (link below) harped on it constantly. If you forget what to do make sure you flatten somebody. If it's the wrong guy, he better be flat.

Thanks for your input Slammer. I liken OL play to a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. If one of the pistons isn't firing. it runs rough. If more than one of them is not firing, it's gonna be total crap. Or the engine might just have the timing off a bit. A good OL needs to have the timing properly adjusted and all cylinders firing to function well. It's not an overnight process to get there.

I’d argue early on we had 3 cylinders on the OL not firing correctly.

LT - youth
C - mental breakdown
RG - subpar talent

For 2024 on paper all three of those issues have been resolved and we just need to replace a very talented tackle.

Kendrick Law looks like a taller Tyreke Hill with his build. He’s going to be a problem, and is my front runner for most improved player in CFB this year.

I'm not going to let my expectations get too crazy for Law, but it does seem like he is just waiting to bust out in this offense.

Cecil Hurt once said when you scrimmage against yourself, the sum of the parts must equal zero. So if your head coach said that so far the defensive line has been the best group. He said they have consistently been good and they have consistently put pressure on the quarterback. So, if they are consistently doing well, the defensive line must consistently be getting whipped.

This is true but at this point in camp the defense should be ahead. If they were not we'd really be screwed.

they're all gigantic, so the run game is going to be unstoppable

Every game announcers how much bigger they were compared to your avg NFL OL. At some point it became obvious that’s not necessarily a good thing

He did a lot of media stuff as a player. Seems like a good fit on both sides

Does the "2024 Schedule" banner in that graphic piss anyone else off?

The font, coloring, and positioning of letters is all just off, compared to the rest of the image

I thought Christian Miller was doing a pretty good job. I wonder if he moved to a different gig.

Alabama announces Damien Harris will take over sideline reporting duties for the radio broadcast with Chris Stewart and Tyler Watts.

One of my favorite under the radar players of the Saban era. If Sark remembers he exists vs Clemson after Bo goes down, Bama has another title. Also very well-spoken and loves Alabama football. Great addition to the crew.

It’s meant to mimic the font of the old logo which you can see in the background

Also had Jacobs too. I think they had a combined 9 carries in the game. Instead Hurts was made to drop back to throw over 35 times
