There’s a report that the NCAA will meet to discuss allowing teams to put corporate logos on their jerseys.

I think that might finally kill my love for college athletics. It looks so tacky and some college uniforms are beautiful and steeped in tradition. Id be fine as long as Alabama never does it. But the day Alabama has a damned credit card logo on their jersey is I think the day I start caring a lot less.

How many ads do we need plastered over every single thing we look at? Just put a fricking McDonalds logo on Mona Lisa’s forehead at this point.

How cool would it be for one of these companies to buy a sponsorship and release a joint statement with the school

“At Mercedes we believe in excellence, elegance, and uncompromising tradition. That’s why we are sponsoring the uniform of the University of Alabama, but leaving its classic look untouched.”

That would be more impactful to me than just another ad on another jersey that I will ignore. I’ll go buy a damn Mercedes if they do that.

Agreed. That was the day I stopped caring about the nba. I get money is important, but at some point have some pride.

You are a brand too. There’s a reason they want space on your jersey.

European soccer does it because they don’t have any commercials(the jerseys still look like shite) do I can’t fault them as much. But if the game is half commercials, the stadium name is a commercial, there’s commercials all over the field/stadium and now the uniform is a commercial?

frick off I’ll spend 4 hours doing something besides watching a commercial.

I’m certain that WILL come to pass. Personally, I think it looks tacky as hell but I won’t be surprised to see Cheetos (or some other logo) on Bama jerseys for $10 million or some absurd amount.

Think about it, the University has for years now looked for any way humanly possible to squeeze the ordinary fan for literally every nickel they can get.

If they can get 7 or 8 figures for having a tacky logo on the uniform, I can assure you UA do it.

Corporate logos have been on jerseys for decades.

Nike swoosh -> Corporate logo
Jordan Jumpman -> Corporate logo
Adidas logo -> Corporate logo
Reebok logo -> Corporate logo
Under Armour logo -> Corporate logo

I'm not a fan of corporate logos on Bama jerseys, but out of all the things to hate about the current state of college football, this is pretty low on my list (assuming they keep the logos a respectable size and we don't have a giant image of a can of Armour Vienna Sausages across the chest of the players ).

Exactly this. That at least makes sense. It’s a sports apparel company making the uniform we’re wearing. It doesn’t feel like selling out. Someone has to make the uniform.

Nike and those other brands are paying the school to make the uniform. Schools are still selling out.
