Arizona may be in his plans. He has had most of his success on the west coast. I see him being in the mix. Most schools are hiring prior to national signing date so this could happen fast to whoever they hire.

I think he is a good OC but so far has been a mediocre HC.

I think Sark needs to wait a year.. lot of jobs will open up and Arizona may not be it for him, but if it's what he wants, so be it.

Why would Sark risk his career on a dumpster fire like Arizona?

He was Washington's and USC's coach and his record was around .500.

He has found the most success as USC/Bama OC. Most folks would argue that he sucked as ATL Falcons OC.

My post from an earlier thread about him being linked to the AZ job

He isnt our CIW. Saban got 5-7 years left. He even said missing that one game made him realize how much he loves coaching. Sark may very well one day be the HC at Bama. But its gonna be several years and I think he will have other opportunities before the Bama job becomes open. Who knows for sure, Sark may be loving where he is and not having the HC responsibilities. He obviously is an outstanding OC. Bama will pay him what mid level schools will pay and he can just call plays and scheme.

I dont think he goes to the pac 12 though. would be his 3rd different school in that conference. However I could see him at an ACC or Big 12 school but I think we have him for 2-3 more years. If TX fires Herman next year and whiff on a couple guys, I could see them going after Sark.

Sark gets paid almost the same amount of money at Alabama, as an OC, as Kevin Sumlin was making as a head coach at Arizona. He needs to wait for a better gig to open up.

Is Arizona better than the Colorado job he was offered last year?

Sark is a West Coast Guy. Zona may be too hard to pass up.

There are much better opportunities than Arizona imo. That job has become harder since Herm arrived at asu.

I’d wait one more year If I was Sark. Then you would have Jobs like Texas, Tennessee,Michigan, and Barn open. Which are much better than Arizona.

A year from now he could have the Tennessee or Auburn job most likely. Would you rather those or Arizona? I think he'll wait it out, but more dominos can fall between now and the end of the season.

This. Even Rich Rod was "only" making just over 2 million a year. Not saying Sark wouldn't take it, but he should be able to get a bigger job that Arizona.

Ever heard of Mickey Andrews?
He made excellent money, was comfortable and secure in his job, didn't have all the headaches of a D-1 HC.
It may just be that Sark realizes that he's got a personal problem, and the life of a HC is not conducive to a successful outcome for him...it really makes sense.

I keep saying the same thing. No different with Venables at Clemson. He is getting the same if not more pay than most head coaches with a lot less of the headache.

Have to take into consideration that Washington went 0-12 the year before he was hired and USC was coming off probation.

It's not like he was taking over teams that were powerhouses. They were big names that were in really bad shape.

From Arizona's 247 site:

quote:

STEVE SARKISIAN: CURRENT ALABAMA OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Current Salary: $2.5 million

Why: Sarkisian is working for arguably the best college football coach in history and has completely rehabilitated his image. The 2019 Alabama offense averaged a school-record 47.2 points per game, which ranked second nationally while averaging 510.8 yards per game. Quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones combined to throw for 4,449 yards and 49 touchdowns which equated to a school-record 342.2 passing yards per game that ranked third nationally. Alabama’s 199.61 passing efficiency rating was not only a school record but the second-best mark in NCAA history.

Sarkisian was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. During his two years coordinating the Falcons’ scheme, Sarkisian built one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. The 2018 unit finished in the top 10 in the NFL in passing yards (fourth – 4,653 yards), total yards (sixth – 6,226 yards) and 10th in scoring (25.9 ppg). Quarterback Matt Ryan was third in the NFL in passing yards (4,924 yards) while tossing 35 touchdowns.

As a head coach, he guided the Southern Cal program in 2014-15 and the Washington Huskies from 2009-13. He posted a head coaching record of 46-35 over those seven seasons while leading his teams to five bowl appearances.

Sarkisian knows the west and has experience recruiting the Pac-12. He has familiarity with Arizona and the Wildcats would be willing to give him a head coaching opportunity that others likely wouldn't.

Why not: Take one look at the salary. He would likely have to take a pay cut in order to become head coach Arizona and he has one of the most comfortable jobs in America right now considering the talent he gets at Alabama. Make no mistake about it, it will require a lot of work to turn the Arizona program around and Sark may simply view himself as being able to get a better job.

In addition, there are obviously some background issues due to what happened with alcoholism at USC. Arizona may believe it is not in a position to take a risk considering how much money is on the table.

Let that sink in. He would have to take a pay cut to become a Power Five head coach. He's not going to Arizona.
