They’re better than 2024 by the looks of it too. Pavia was hitting deep passes in some windows last night.

Pavia’s only problem is staying healthy. The 2nd half of last season he got banged up and that held back their offense in some games

Agree on all but Dre Kirkpatrick Sr was extremely physical. Remember when he took the head off of Jarius Wright in 2011? Either way, happy with the performance last night. And we finally broke past 70!

was encouraging to be sure, but can we play like this against teams with a pulse, or more importantly, the teams that will be trying to punch us directly in the mouth?

I don't think that there is any doubt that we can. The question is can we do it consistently, every weekend for an entire season? September 27th through the end of the season will be an absolute gauntlet, outside of the 1 cupcake game. Even the currently unranked teams on our schedule are good teams. They gotta bring it every single week from here on out.

The FSU game debacle very well could end up being the best thing to happen to this team. For a whole week they were absolutely roasted, scorned, belittled, etc in the national media, social media, talk shows, even Trump cracked a joke about them. Hopefully that was the humbling event that they needed.

But, I don't believe last night proved anything really, except for that it's apparent we have quite a bit of talent not only among the starters, but depth-wise, and the team clearly played well below their potential against FSU.

-Brooks is a dude. Gotta get the ball in his hands.
-Seems like it's going to be the Jam/Riley show moving forward.
-Bernard seems damn near unstoppable.

Yeah but we are not playing him after 4-5 SEC opponents have gotten licks on him

Ty is and should be #1 but if he got hurt, I'm very, very comfortable with either Mack or Russell taking over. Very few teams in the country have this luxury.

I would disagree here. I would go with Keelon over Mack. Waaaaay more upside. Where talking a future potential QB draft pick in Mack, maybe even round 1, verses lottery pick in Keelon.
No offense to Mack but he’s just good not exceptional.
Bama should do everything to keep this kid on the roster. I would hate to see him at Texas or OSU.

As long as this team plays with relentless effort for 60 mins like they did last night. We can probably win or come close to winning every game. It’s that simple.

They beat us last year. There's no way that's a trap game.

It’s not that it’s a “trap game,” it’s that it’s very difficult to sustain high levels of emotional intensity and focus every single week. Coming off a UGA disappointment or huge win, it’s very hard to refocus with extreme intensity quickly (not to mention heal up physically).

Even if they know Vandy can beat them, most teams play worse the week after they play Bama or UGA. Look what Clemson just did against Troy after a heartbreak to LSU. It’s just part of the game, and these kids are still very young. They’ll need the coaches to light a fire and scream all week to even have a chance to come to the Vandy week with enough preparation…that’s why Saban was so, so good.

Things I noticed from last night

Really good take on last night.

The staff played a lot of guys early last night, not just substituting in but like they’re looking for the guys willing to put out 100% effort and make plays consistently. DeBoer alluded to it in the post game interview…think he truly opened up the competition at every position after fsu.

Looked like the staff was sending a clear signal to the players that they have to fight & maintain intensity at a high level or get replaced. There’s a lot of really good young talent on this team.

Mack has every potential in the world to be “him.”

Russell is “him.”

The headline. Defensively, our kids looked like they were coached by adult professionals in the football business. Like someone came up with a gameplan, then they spent the week installing it, everybody remembered it, then came out and executed it. Like a football team. My linebackers weren't bouncing in place. My D lineman weren't slanting into the same gap. My secondary wasn't dropping 20 yards into coverage against nobody. Opponent aside, yesterday looked like people playing competitive football. They were immediately attacking downhill. Outside leverage on the edge. Inside out pursuit...etc. Last week looked like the kid in class trying to give a book report on a book he didn't read.

RB carries: Riley 11 Young 6 Washington/Dear 5 Hill 3. They seem to like Hill on 3rd down I suspect for pass pro. Young's blitz pickup on the 1st Bernard touchdown belongs in a museum. Riley is the most explosive and could probably start at receiver at several schools. Miller provides all of that. It's a long season. How does Miller change the time share when the time comes?

Keelon Russell might end up being the best to ever walk those halls. The ball jumps out of his hand. Has a little Bryce Young with prototypical size to him.

edit: Need to see William Sanders kicking out the edge off short motion 100 more times this season. He had an opportunity to bury a kid yesterday but didn't break down and finish.

Vandy vs South Carolina is one of the most interesting games next weekend. Historically a Jefferson Pilot throw away game lol.

That's if our QB makes quick reads and throws and our DC finds a way for his defense to not become paralyzed whenever we face a running QB that plays a RPO offense which uses disguises and fakes

Dre Kirkpatrick-super physical kid. WAAAAAY more physical than his old man was

I generally agree with everything else, but Dre Sr. was probably the hardest hitting CB I've personally seen. Not sure where this is coming from

Don’t recall him ever laying the wood. I can think of a number of way more physical DBs: Landon Collins, Tony Brown, Ronnie Harrison, Xavier McKinney, Mark Barron to name a few.

Also everyone you mentioned except Crazy Tony was a safety. Much more opportunity for those guys to blow people up.

Is this what we have become as a fan base? We have forgotten if Dre Kirkpatrick was a physical cornerback?
