The Good - Our defense. When FSU was driving there was some concern, but looking back now that the dust has settled, we DOMINATED on defense. We held a hot FSU QB to virtually nothing. We hit Francois until he left the field on a stretcher.
- Our special teams coverage units!

The Bad - Oline. This one is obvious. It's even more concerning considering these guys have been working in the same group since the spring.
- The offense/Daboll. I remember that bungled series after the blocked punt had me going ape shite. Our whole offense looked like shite aside from the one play to Ridley. Jalen threw for under 100, and nobody ran for over 100. Everything needs to be fixed. We need to stop looking like we're clinching our a-hole on offense, and make some god damn plays

The Ugly - Our FG unit. Good god almighty, what a disgrace. Another year, another kicker who can't be depended on from anywhere over 30 yards. Every single kick looked shaky. I don't see how JK Scott could be a worse option. We would've put the game away much earlier with halfway decent kicking.
- Also, the shank from JK. A 9 yard punt! Wth man
- The Francois injury. Hope he gets better so we can rematch them in the playoffs

The offense only had a rhythm on 1 drive...the Ridley TD. The rest of the time, it looked like they had 3 different people calling plays, and Hurts is still so scared to make a mistake that he tucks and runs if his first read isn't there. He needs serious work on his pocket awareness.

Agreed. I would have gladly taken a pick six or a scoop and score strip sack by FSU last night to have had Jalen sit in the pocket longer and try to make something happen with the pass.

Good, secondary.

Bad, Bo looked lost in pass pro , got to get that cleaned up and he will.

Ugly, Daboll playcalling . Either run it or have jalen drop back and throw.

Your writeup was spot on too.

This was our first game and so many guys playing for the first time. I am proud of them and super pumped for this season.

We have all the same.

The Good - defense and special teams. Doesn't look like they missed a beat, outside of a few runs and blown coverages. The linebacking core is still legit and is good at the point of attack.

The Bad - Like you, I'm going to say offense. I didn't like the offensive play calling, the oline didn't give Jalen any time to sit in the pocket, and Harris should have gotten way more carries. I'll give the oline a pass because in week 1, you're going to have some chemistry issues that need to be worked out over time. Also, FSU has a fierce defense. I would like to see us get under center see more. We don't need to run out of the shotgun everytime. I thought this is what Daboll was brought in for?

The Bad - kicking. Maybe we'll look back on this game and laugh because it was his first game, but until then, I hold my breath anytime we attempt a FG.

If we are using a combo of kickers - one short guy and one long guy - what is the cutoff? Judging from last night I'd say it's about 40 yards. AP didn't look good at all on the two he tried that were longer than 40. The others were good/ok.

The question is whether Bulovas is the "long" guy or if it's Scott, and how long does it have to be? Hopefully we'll get that sorted out over our next couple of games before we get into conference.

Incidentally, since I didn't see the barn game I went over to their board to see how it went.

If you secretly swapped our postgame analysis threads with theirs, nobody would notice the difference. Complaints about Oline play, play calling, and QB performance to go with praise for the defense. Mr. Automatic even missed two FGs.

Do you all not realize that we played a defense as good as ours? They have two top 10 picks in that secondary and a host of guys we went after as well. Good defenses make your offense look a little less than stellar. Being that it was Daboll's first game and it was against a top 5 defense, I think it went pretty well. We will look alot better against SEC defenses

I don't think Hurts was so much scared of a mistake as he had no confidence in his OL--and with good reason.

I cursed Jalen a lot during the game but after almost every replay you can see the oline break down. 2-3 defenders break free forcing Jalen out of the pocket nearly the second he finished his drop back. I don't think he was tucking because he was impatient. He was tucking it because he was about to get drilled.

Hurts didn't really look like he had developed at all. Hopefully it's just that he was rushed due to lack of protection. But he's still not going through the progressions, he's too quick to scramble, and we still have no intermediate passing game

He didn't have time he had almost no time last night none. I was standing 50 feet from most of the plays. It was snap 1 Mississippi , 2 defenders on your arse. If hurts isn't back there we have 10'sacks and lose by 28 points.

I'm with you on this, Boz. I don't know what people were watching last night to say Jalen was taking off too quickly. FSU was all over him. It's almost as if people would've preferred he stay in the pocket and take sacks? Confusing.

I keep reading about this supposed "pocket" from last night, but I don't think I ever saw one.

The Best: Who will Bama play that's better than FSU?
Don't discount that even if not at your best, you beat one helluva team.

I'm being serious here. We shouldn't attempt a FG until we get inside the 20. Until we get there, we should either punt or treat the series as if we have 4 downs to get 10 yards.

No one is saying he shouldn't have pulled it under pressure, but on plays where he had time, he just stared down Calvin and if he wasn't open he ran.

How many plays did he have time? Three, four?

It was literally only 3 or 4 lol. I'm telling you and people keep overlooking this. fsu is every bit of the number 3 team. They are built head to toe like Bama.

It wasn't many, but the point still stands. He looked like he'd made very little progress in reading the field.

He did a good job not making mistakes in a defensive game but wasn't nearly what was hyped this offseason. You can blame play calling some for not giving him more quick routes and adjusting the protection.
